Well we're pleased to announce that our hut-naming competition has been won by https://www.facebook.com/shay.evans.50?fr ef=ufi&rc=p :)
Shay's suggestion was to name them after Beatrix Potter characters and this suggestion beat the other suggestion of fictional places 48/52 - rather similar to another vote a couple of years back about Europe or something.....
Shay wins an overnight stay for 4 in Jeremy Fisher! - Just message us Shay for more details :)
... A big thank you to the 113 people who put forward suggestions
Hope to welcome you all here soon

How about a two wheeled adventure with your little soldier to Petruth this year? This parent overcame more than most to make it happen......

User

Ok Folks so we've narrowed down our Hut names to three fictional groups. Thank you to the 134 people who suggested some fabulous names - it's taken us ages to get to this short list and now we need your help in selecting the final group of names!
So we have:
A) Fictional places (suggested by Shay Gunstone)
... Narnia, Hogworts, Avonlea, Rivendell, Winterfell
Or:
B) Beatrix Potter characters (suggested by Jody Colclough)
Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin, Jemimah Puddleduck, Mrs Tiggywinkle, Jeremy Fisher
Please vote for your favorite!

So we could do with your help 😊
We’d like to name our huts for 2019 - something a little more inspiring than Hut 1&2!
We’d also like to add some more so we’re looking for names with something in common.
... Please post your ideas as comments - the winner gets a night for four on us in one of them worth £110 - not bad eh?
Meanwhile here’s something we posted a few years back that will always hold true.....

A message to all our campers from our on site chef Rob:
Evening campers, don’t let the weather dampen your spirits. Come warm up with a nice Chilli con carne with rice and home made cajun nachos. Or perhaps a nice mixed vegetable and halloumi curry, rice and naan. Kids are not forgotten, I have plenty of sausages and jackets and cones of fries too. If that wasn’t enough I may even tempt you with a strawberry Eton mess cheesecake and berry compote.... I’ll even open a little earlier today at 3pm-9pm. See you then

August Bank Holiday 2018 - thank you all for choosing to spend it with us!

Wonderful bank holiday weekend in a motorhome. Site was gloriously nestled in the mendip valley. Happy campers everywhere and little chidlins playing soaking up a relaxed family bbq and firepit fueled sky* amenities were fab. Great clear signs on site and modern loos/showers. Staff were fresh vibrant and lovely and one can tell they all love their jobs and have lots respect for their awesome bosses* bigging it up for for all your efforts. We were honoured to have experienced what dreams are made off. Thank you. Love and happyness to all*

User

We took a group of young people camping and Jules (& the team) were so helpful and accommodating particularly with letting us have loads of space even on a busy bank holiday weekend. Having a fire pit was really great and there was plenty of space for ball games etc. Even during a busy time the site wasn't noisy and the staff worked really hard keeping the place clean.

User

We stayed here for one night on our way down to Cornwall and we are so sad we didn’t boom longer. Camping like camping should be, friendly, Ice cream cart - coffee station Mr squeezed in, excellent information beautiful location. I could go on. We will definitely be back for a week. Thanks for having us

User

We had a lovely quick getaway to Petruth Paddocks, meeting a couple of friends for a wonderfully chilled-out weekend. Great site and location close to Cheddar Gorge and the beautiful Mendips, and the site facilities and staff were great! Would definitely recommend, and will be coming back for sure!

User

We camped for the first time with our two kids (both under 5) and two other families in mid July. The campsite is in a brilliant location, close to our home in Bristol so minimal travel time, and in a beautiful area full of things to do. We had a very good sized pitch with lots of green around us for the kids to run around and play on. The campsite facilities were really good with plenty of clean showers and toilets and the site felt very safe and the people who run it are very friendly and helpful - they also have a good sense of humour and fun. The kids in particular had an absolutely brilliant time (partly to do with the daily 4.30pm ice cream bike!) and us adults were actually able to relax and chat - my son even asked if we could live there! We will be back and will absolutely recommend to others. :)

User

We brought ten children camping for our daughters birthday and couldn’t have asked for a better time, despite the weather! Friendly staff, magical campfires and great memories made. Thanks

The best campsite in the UK

As soon as I arrived at Petruth Paddocks, I straight away knew that this campsite felt right… The site has such a wonderful balanced energy with nature and space all around you. I have researched nearly every campsite in the UK and Petruth Paddocks comes out tops every time…. The Free range camping Initiative that Jules and the team have here at Petruth Paddocks, is so rare to find in any campsite, Petruth Paddocks brings freedom back to you and camping.

A wonderful experience.

Will be back.

User

Probably the best campsite in the World. Jules and the team are the most helpful, thoughtful, friendly and professional people you should ever wish to meet. Added to this the site is clean, tidy, relaxed, flat and in such a beautiful location. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

User

My husband and I have just come back from Petruth Paddocks. We have never been before but what can I say, a really warm welcome and very friendly staff who are only too happy to help with anything. Fantastic site, great facilities, everything you need for your stay. It was a shame to leave the site today. We WILL be back and we WILL recommend it to everyone

User

Just returned from a fantastic week! Staff were all amazing, facilities spotless at all times (even though really busy at the weekend!), lovely coffee from the lovely coffee lady and nothing was too much trouble! Sorry about bringing the rain with us, home now so Sun has returned!

User

Just back from a couple of nights here. It was superb. Very friendly staff, plenty of space and not all crammed together. Toilets and showers kept very clean. Ice cream and food truck were both good too. Only a 10 minute walk down a traffic free footpath in to town.

The kids loved it and made lots of friends, it was safe enough for them to be left to wander the field..

We’ll definitely be back.

User

I just stayed 1 night, in a campervan, after travelling fòr a week with my dog.

What bliss to be able to let my dog run free instead of tethering her! Other campers were similarly relaxed and friendly. The owners were there to help if needed, and provided the best information booklet I've ever seen - all useful info about the area.

Coffee and breakfast was available too!

I'll definitely be back. Thanks for the enjoyable time 😊

User

Had a really great stay here (this was our 2nd visit) - totally uncomplicated camping. We stayed in the family field (the first one you come you on entry) as we have two girls (6&7) and they liked to play on the landrover. There are several fields but they seem to be organised based on groups or single families or non-family people and based on the makeup of the groups so that works well.

First time we visited we just “rocked up” and camped as it was out of peak season but this time booked in advance as it was the start of peak times but there was still tons of space. We used this as our base to explore the area.

The facilities were clean and normally no issues getting access to them. Choosing the right shower cubicle was the trick as some were really hot (too hot for me) but others were too cold and as the temperature cant be adjusted then changing cubicle is the only option.

The fire braziers are very popular just don’t accidentally run over them as they damage your car (seen this happen on both visits).

Good washing up facilities, waste disposal, toilets and tooth brushing areas make life easy. Electric hookups available for camping or caravans/campers but need to be booked well in advance and the locations of these is only around the edge of the field which means you can easily end up next to the toilets, caravan toilet waste disposal area or coffee/breakfast huts. Don’t camp too close to the landrover as it attracts children and so can get quite noisy.

Lots of walks in the area and Cheddar is close but with a Sainsburys and Tesco Local so shopping is easy too.

Wi-fi is available but it’s quite slow as probably overloaded but that’s a minor issue as it does work and 4G is available too (on EE anyway).

One improvement that could be made is more central-to-field access to electric hookups but that probably causes problems when it is not being used as a campsite but would still be good.

Staff and owner (who is often there) are friendly and very helpful.

Overall - really great campsite and would recommend this site to anyone.

User

Great friendly campsite with lots of space for kids to run around and within close distance to Cheddar. Relaxed camping and budget friendly. Jules and the team are great, couldn’t recommend them enough. Would definitely recommend and hope to return again in the future.

User

Got back Sunday afternoon... totally coming back next year if not again this year! Was beautiful settings, so close to cheddar and the staff were beyond helpful going out of their way to make sure we had a bbq for the weekend after we didn’t get the message about no disposables. Recommend this campsite to families or groups of friends. Can’t wait to come back xxx

User

Brilliant site! We arrived midweek for a short 3 night break with our two children - 9 year old and 20 month old - and it was ideal for them. My eldest really enjoyed climbing/playing with the land rover in the middle of the site. It became the hub of activity for all the children throughout our stay! He made new friends every day and was out exploring or playing different games with his new friends. My 20 month old also enjoyed playing on the landrover, looking at the animals and running around the field. She made friends with some younger children in the tent next door to us.

Staff- The staff were fantastic and very helpful! As soon as we are arrived we were greeted and shown the site. The staff also told us about the area and the way you can walk into Cheddar from the site.

Food - in the mornings midweek there would be a food van selling basic breakfast baps (vegetarian options available) and there is also a Sainsbury’s not too far from the site. On the Friday night/Saturday morning there was another pop up food van that sold burgers and chips on the evening and breakfast baps in the morning. The coffee hut was also open on Saturday morning which was nice!

Facilities - The toilets and showers were always clean and well maintained. I didn’t have to wait to use any of them. There are a couple of basins to brush your teeth and there is somewhere to wash up your plates. They also have a freezer and a charging point for phones!!! This is the first time I’ve seen a charging area in a campsite and it was a welcome addition!

Cheddar is just a short walk from site and we explored the caves there. They were amazing and we had a fantastic day out. As we’re local we used our longleat passes to get 50% off the tickets! We also went to Shepton Mallet Lido which is only about 20/30 minutes drive away from the site.

All in all it was a fantastic few days. We spent our days exploring and our evenings sat around a fire pit (you can rent one) toasting marshmallows. We were recommended this site by a friend and we will definitely be passing on that recommendation to others! Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will be back!

User

Awesome stay at Petruth this weekend - we stayed in the Yurt which was incredibly cute and cosy. Gorgeously comfy bed ;-) The atmosphere was like a little festival. Our kids could just be kids. Everything slowed down - we could take a complete breather. Jules and his family who run the campsite were incredible - and you can tell that the whole atmosphere is down to what they have created here. It's something very special. We are looking at our diary already to book another trip down there in the next month or so. Highly recommended!

User

A really welcoming team/family. Everyone was always willing to help with any questions I had.

Facilities were clean, shower was warm with power, Wi-Fi, fire pits were a lovely touch but was a shame we didn't get to use it due to me picking the one weekend of rain to go camping!!!! Nightmare!

Will definitely be returning to get use of the fire pits and local wild swimming opportunities and nice walk (away from the rain)

User

Stayed for 2 nights on a hard standing with electric hookup. Had a fantastic time and kids loved it, great location with a lovely atmosphere . Gents toilet block needs a bit of TLC but overall a really nice site with very friendly staff👍
