Photoart By Tony Mills Description

Whilst i was a Research Scientist I had been a keen hobbyist photographer for twenty-five years before making photography my full-time profession. At present, I’m working on a number of different projects. The "Nature in action" series portrays movement and behaviour in natural subjects. I like to use an extra dimension in my 2D work, often Time, as in depicting the flight action of birds through photomontaging or using slow shutter speeds. "Plant extracts" uses computer manipulation to abstract images of flowers to enhance natural textural elements. "Nightscapes" depict either the movement of the heavens with time-lapse night photography, or shows landscapes taken after sunset and before dawn. Another favourite subject is ancient standing stones and archaeological sites. And finally, a new project; mixed media pictures of mammals and birds using a combination of giclée printing and pen& ink drawing.

Although my work has won awards in the past, (“Nature in Action; Booby diving” won the international “Visions of Science and Technology, Action category, 2007” and “Going to market” won the professional category of “Heart of the World” in 2010), i rarely enter competitions at all nowadays. My work is also published in magazines and the press and I exhibited widely in the UK.

Some of my work is on display at the Lobbs Farm shop, next to Lost Gardens of Heligan. Just set it up this morning as part of the Mirva Collective. Apparently this piccie was sold today ;-) I shall be shopkeeping in the exhibition on Saturday and Sunday, this weekend.

Set up a new 'exhibition' today at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, Truro. It's along a corridor wall in the 'Link' to the Tower Block. Ironically just opposite the Cardiac Outpatients! It's from a series of pictures (Plant Extracts) that i haven't exhibited for a few years, although there are 3 new creations as well. For more see http://etsy.com/uk/shop/plantExtractsArtw ork

Over the course of the next few months i have quite a few exhibitions lined up. So i'm trying to get as many piccies ready as possible. Here's 2 new 40x40cm canvas prints, one of my Otter drawings and a Wolf. Also i've framed 2 wildflower meadow piccies, one from the UK and one from Cyprus.

Just framed up my latest mixed media drawing, it's a Weid's Marmoset. I photo'd this animal in Brazil, it was one in a small troupe that followed us though the forest for a while, jumping from tree to tree. They were very curious, probably hadn't seen many humans. Beautiful little animals and a thrilling experience. (At present i'm working on another, larger one of Weid's Marmoset).
