Went past the shop on the 8th/9th September. I assumed it was open as their display was outside, uncovered & the door was open.
I was interested in purchasing a silver bee I saw in the window (I am a bee keeper). I walked to the door to be told the shop was closed. Before I could ask the price of the bee, the woman repeated it was closed. Not a pleasant greeting at all. Then she said they would be open by 11 a.m. (it was already 10).
After being spoken to in such a way, no way would I go back & found a bee elsewhere in town. I had a retail card/gift business for 13.5 yrs. Not a good way to speak to a potential customer.
If you are closed--then putting cloths over the outside display would be a good way of making sure people can see you're not open.
It costs nothing to be polite & helpful--it's also good for business.
