Gareth has a keen interest in Cosmetic dentistry and enjoys restoring peoples smiles. He takes pride in getting to know his patients and putting them at ease.
Gareth qualified from Leeds in 2006 and has worked much of his career in York. Alongside his role as joint owner of Pontefract Dental Care, he still works part-time training newly qualified dentists in Haxby near York.
... Much of Gareth’s spare time is spent with his young family, with two young boys, life is pretty hectic!

Airflow - A scale and polish at the dentist is a routine way of removing calculus and minor staining. ‘Airlfow’ is a modern and far more effective stain removal treatment offered at PDC. The airflow involves a mild sandblasting technique and produces instant results. It is a good starting point for patients considering tooth whitening and costs £40.

Dentists are often telling patients off for having fizzy or sugary drinks as they are harmful to your teeth.
... There are some drinks that have been shown scientifically to have a positive effect on your teeth and gums, such as tea! Clear teas have been shown to be a good source of fluoride which can help prevent tooth decay and also promote gum health.
Overconsumption can cause staining, but this is often easily removed. Unfortunately, if you add sugar to your brew it is very bad for your teeth and will promote tooth decay!!!

Introducing Dr John Maguire (prefers Sean) our Principal Dentist.
John specialises in root canal treatment and has just completed his Endodontic Masters after 4 years of studying. John enjoys making patients feel relaxed and trying to remove the stigma that root canal treatments can be painful and are not successful – because they are very successful and should be completely pain-free!
John began working in 2006 in Castleford where he went on to spend 11 enjoyable years at A...rmstrong and Haire. He went on to become a foundation dentist trainer, which involved training new graduate dentists and then became the joint owner of Pontefract Dental Care.
John was a keen rugby player for 12 years at Sandal Rugby Club in Wakefield. He retired in 2018 and recently became the proud Dad of identical twin girls.

FIZZY IS NOT FRIENDLY!!
Fizzy drinks are the major sugar source for children from the age of 11-18 and one of the main causes of tooth decay. A common misconception is that sugar-free fizzy drinks are also not harmful to your teeth….this is in fact incorrect. Sugar-free fizzy drinks are still acidic and can cause erosion leading to tooth decay.
Try to cut out your fizzy drinks or enjoy them in moderation!! One or two per week is a safe amount.
