We are open. Main roads are pretty good, a few icy patches so take it steady. The team worked hard yesterday to keep the hill to the garden centre clear of snow and we were out early this morning gritting.

We are open!! And we still have a range of shovels, grit and sledges available. Enjoy the snow and stay safe. ❄️ #snowday #snow #porton #sledges

We came to Porton today to just look around. But came out with 2 degus. I would like to thank the girl (I didn't catch her name) who worked with the little animals. She was great. Her customer service was awesome and she helped me with what we needed for the degus. She made me even happier when she told me she could get me a African Pygmy Dormouse. I have looked everywhere for one and they are the hardest thing to get. I thought I would never get one. But she managed to see if she could get one in stock for me which she could. I'm so excited that come the weekend I should be getting one. Thanks to her and to a wonderful pet store for their amazing stock of animals and the great customer service that they bring xxx

I've ordered 6 hamster cages online over the time I've had my various hamsters. This is the first one that has been delivered in perfect shape! Every other time there has been a crack somewhere on the cage. The packaging was so well done. All of my order was shipped and delivered in 24 hours and everything was in the one box. Thank you!

User

I would like to thank Porton for their mystery buy one get one free offer over the weekend! We bought a lovely plant to go in our chameleon's viv and got a supersize cricket with it. Unfortunately, we did not notice said cricket until it had escaped and is now chirping all over the house..........but can we find it????? I reckon I should start charging porton rent! Lol

Love porton, hate crickets. Lol

User

I recently made an online purchase with Porton Garden Aquatic and Pets and to say I am impressed is an under statement. I placed my order at 2:30pm and received delivery at 10am the next morning in Edinburgh. I was kept up to date with various emails from them receiving my order, to despatch notification and right through to a one hour delivery slot. What I paid for my item, I wasn't expecting it to be very impressive, but to my surprise it was amazing. I purchased a toy sand lizard for my sons birthday and I know he's going to be delighted when he receives it. It is very rare nowadays that you get this kind of quality and service and I would not hesitate in recommending this company to anyone. Keep up the good work. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

User

I phoned them on Wednesday 6 September to ask if they had a battery powered aquarium air pump in stock.

They were very helpful and they looked to see if they had one in stock.

They had one and I asked if they could post it urgently to me as I was having a power cut and needed it to aerate my aquarium for a few hours.

I paid for it over the phone and paid for postage, and within an hour got a text message saying my parcel had been dispatched.

I received the parcel at 8.30 this morning.

Excellent service.

Very helpful on the phone and very quick delivery.

User

I order my dog food from Porton Garden Aquatic & pets and the service always amazes me!

Very quick and very efficient which means a happy Buddy dog and a happy owner!

Very quick to respond to emails/messages and always have a helpful solution should you have a problem with an order.

Keep up the good work guys

User

Fantastic service I ordered on Sunday and got my cage on Tuesday, it was packaged so well it took me a while to get into it haha but a lot better than being broken, can't fault the customer service at all even changed the colour for me when I asked what colour the cage was, I will defiantly be recommending to everyone I know thank you so much

User

Visited to purchase an aquarium set up for newts but the staff were so unhelpful that I left and purchased elsewhere.

I returned to purchase the newts as this was the only place that had the type of newt that I wanted and again the staff were really unhelpful. I asked if they could show me the food i needed and they just pointed and said it’s over there. No help at all and no care sheet provided for new animals.

It’s a pity as it has an amazing stock and is a great shop but staff are not at all helpful.

The only thing that has stopped me giving a 1 star rating is a staff member in reptiles called Andy who saw the lack of help I had received from2 other staff and came and apologised and showed me exactly what I needed and gave me some help and advice. If all staff were like Andy it would be a 5 Star place.

User

Yesterday me and my husband visited porton aquatic and we couldn't help but notice the prices for the beautiful African Greys you have. You are well over pricing these birds by hundreds of pounds compared to actual breeders for African Greys. How can you charge over £900 for a fully grown bird? Its ridiculous, then the cages for £300+? A breeder dosnt cost that much for a chick or they come with a cage, after care, food, and maybe some toys. I'm intrigued to know if porton has ever sold a bird for these prices,? We would of loved to give one of the birds a loving home, but we can't justify or afford your silly prices.

Please rethink your prices for these poor birds for them to have the chance of finding a new home with caring owners...

User

We phoned Porton Garden Centre to enquire if they had any Light Sussex hens and was told there was one left and we could buy it for £30

I drove a 40 mile round trip to be told I couldn't buy the Light Sussex hen as it had bonded with two other hens and the total cost was £90 for the three hens!

I ended buying a different breed of hen for my partner and the bantam hen which I intended to buy, also £30 has turned into a cockerel even though I was assured it was a hen.

Looking at the limited space the hens (and cockerels) are kept in and the lack of ventilation available to them there is absolutely no way I could live with myself returning the cockerel for a £30 refund.

A bad experience caused by Porton Garden Centres misleading information and their inability to differentiate between cockerels and hens.

User

We got a albino burm from that what had been feed live food all its life

When we got it it seemed a Little of but the problems come after

She would not feed we tried everything to get her to eat frozen but there was no way we took her to the vets who informed us that she would have been fed live all her life and that due to it being banned in England we could not feed live food

She also pointed out that she had a eye infection and told us we should speak to portion about this

We did

They took the snake back for treatment and when we received her back the was missing a eye we was informed that she was eating frozen

But that was not the case she was losing weight and really poorly and had to be put to sleep in the end but ported them said that would not refund or help with the bills left behind

Due to the loss i took on a Asian water monitor what had a mark on his head ( burn mark ) but I loved him anyway upon moving away up north I had to put him in a shop to watch for a while why I moved the guy told me the burn was recent and asked about him and how much I paid for him

He then informed me that he was overpriced by about £150 I paid 200 for him

Just watch what you buy from them guys

User

We bought two Guinea pigs in February for our children. I have experience in keeping them as pets and they were in poor health. They both came home with conjunctivitis, one had a fit and died four weeks after we got them home, the second had breathing problems and died yesterday. Be careful checking them before you buy from here. They didn't check us or talk us through how to look after them. Not a happy customer.

User

This place seriously needs to research how to keep and care for African pigmy Hedgehogs.. The poor things don't even have the basics such as an heat source or an exercise wheel, either keep the hogs correctly or don't stock them at all!

User

Some of your staff need a lesson in customer service! Came in today to enquire about a tarantula as my 3 year old is very interested in them and we wanted to do some research to eventually buy one. Unfortunately the member of staff ignored us while she spoke to her colleague and then when we asked to see one, pulled the box off the shelf without a word, let her look for around 3 seconds and then put it back on the shelf. Not how you make a sale!!

User

Really disappointed in Porton Pets, bought a betta fish from there last Tuesday, didn't notice he was sick and missing a fin! Decided to try and care for him rather than take him back where he'd probably just die, but a week later he was dead anyway. I've owned bettas before and know what

I'm doing with them and so this is NOT an error that I made. Porton refused to give me any money back as they said there was only a 48 hour policy, which I was NOT told and presumed it was a week like all the other animals they sell. Won't be buying from here again and I suggest no one else does either. Very upset, he was a pretty little fish and I'm very sad to lose him.

User

Popped in for the first time to get some live food recently, very upsetting to see so many tanks containing dead fish, some of them only had groups of dead fish in them! The most awkward part? The parents having to explain to their children why a lot of the fish were 'sleeping'!

- Feeding advise for crested geckos was poor.

- Many rabbits were lethargic/exhausted and trying to hide but had nowhere to go, some had poop covered bums too.

- Chinchilla & parrots were actively scratching at enclosure doors/biting at padlocks - attempting to get out of their boring cages?

- Bald parrots, budgies and birds flapping back & forth in the same pattern over & over - stress/boredom?

Something that hit home the most was the totally unsuitable hedgehog enclosure, for a start hedgehogs need heat, they shouldn't be kept on sawdust/hay/straw etc.

I know others have mentioned the poor hedgehog enclosures, yet no one has done anything to change the care/advise provided?!

Such a shame, this could be a wonderful shop if the care requirements for the animals were met.

Only positive thing I experienced was the friendly staff.

User

Please do not buy hogs from here. They are not keeping them in the condition they should be kept in. No heating, no wheel, no toys, no decent bedding. The hog cage is by an open back door. This poor thing could end up going into hybanation and sadly it would dye. APH are not like our native wild hogs. They need heat, human interaction, toys, a wheel and a good mix of biscuit. Please change how you look after your hogs 😥

User

Please do not buy an African Pygmy Hedgehog from this place, even if you feel sorry for them. Sadly if you buy one, they will only replace it with another one to live a cold and miserable life. They DO NOT have the correct set up for them and unfortunately they will probably go into hibernation and die because they need a heat lamp. They also need toys and a wheel for exercise! They have NONE of this in their set ups here. Unfortunately they need to buck their ideas up or there will be serious consequences to poor care PLEASE consider a proper care sheet and look after your hogs better!

User

I went to porton at the weekend as I was looking for some new discus for my breeding stock, the quality of their discus was poor, many with dark colours and clamped fins all hiding behind the pipe work, and the prices were a bit extreme too, if they were solid breeds I'd understand but these were just normal discus, most of the other tanks had dead fish in and didn't look to amazing so left and went to Maidenhead aquatics

Discus are a 'specialist' fish and if a shop can't care for them properly how are they meant to advise customers correctly

A bad experience caused by Porton Garden Centres misleading information and their inability to differentiate between cockerels and hens.

We bought two Guinea pigs in February for our children. I have experience in keeping them as pets and they were in poor health. They both came home with conjunctivitis, one had a fit and died four weeks after we got them home, the second had breathing problems and died yesterday. Be careful checking them before you buy from here. They didn't check us or talk us through how to look after them. Not a happy customer.

This place seriously needs to research how to keep and care for African pigmy Hedgehogs.. The poor things don't even have the basics such as an heat source or an exercise wheel, either keep the hogs correctly or don't stock them at all!
