There are a few "wild" gardens near where I live, and to be honest, they look lovely! And it's such a joy to see how many bees they attract.
We also have strips of grass by hedgerows near us which have been allowed to grow wild, and have just a strip of the grass mowed by the kerb, and these look lovely, too.
If you don't want your front or back garden to be totally unruly, then how about just letting a small patch or two grow wild?
... If you do it right, it looks like a design feature!
I grow nettles in pots in my back garden, and they attract butterflies (who then lay their eggs on them). The nettles don't look out of place, and I can move them to the back of the borders and out of sight if I want to. Nettles are actually a great plant to have in your garden - and you can eat them!!!
