Prega-Mummas Yoga Description

Pregnancy is a time when many women want to focus on building their strength and stamina through yoga practice and meditation to allow them to continue with their pregnancy with ease and confidence.
As a qualified midwife and pregnancy yoga teacher I believe yoga in pregnancy can help to increase the overall physical and psychological wellbeing of expectant mothers. It can improve sleep, offer relief from common ailments in pregnancy, such as nausea and heartburn and allow women to learn breathing techniques which they can employ to manage stress levels and pain during their pregnancy and labour.

Classes are recommended from 12 weeks gestation through to birth and will focus on strengthening asanas (postures) as well postures to encourage optimal fetal positioning, alleviate minor pregnancy related conditions and breathing techniques (pranayama) in preparation for birth. The class will finish with a full relaxation (savasana) leaving you feeling energised, empowered and relaxed.

Yoga in pregnancy can also be very beneficial to help women deal with the challenges and transition to motherhood in the early days and beyond. There are a number of remarkable physiological changes that happen to women during an average pregnancy and women often feel that their bodies have changed beyond recognition following childbirth.
Women may experience new aches and pains in the postnatal period, with neck and shoulder tension being the most prevalent, due to the demands of feeding and carrying around a new-born. Yoga in the postnatal period aims to help women recover from the birth and bring the feeling of calm during those first few and often turbulent months by focusing on the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of new mums. Classes will also incorporate postures to help restore the pelvic floor, stamina and core strength and to realign the spine.
Classes are from 6 weeks postnatal for a normal birth and 12 weeks postnatal following a caesarean or complicated birth.
