Yesterday’s match Report (in brief) by Paul Goodwin
Cables leapfrogged Trafford in the league standings with a convincing 2-0 win at Volair Park.
Trafford made early attempts to find their centre forward with long balls but it was Chris Almond who opened the scoring with a goal in the 11th minute, converting a penalty drawn by MJ Monaghan.
... Trafford ended the half strong with a close free kick and a long shot over the bar.
The second half started with a Prescot penalty appeal waved away by the referee after an apparent handball in the box.
A long shot from Hamilton in the 52nd rebounded off the bar but found the feet of MJ Monaghan who tapped home from two yards to double Cables’ lead.
Cables controlled the rest of the game and had a Chris Almond goal ruled out for offside late on.

An agreement has been signed by Knowsley Council to secure the future of Prescot Cables Football Club. The council has completed the freehold purchase of Volair Park, the club’s home ground, and a new 99 year lease has been granted for the club. Knowsley Council has been in discussions with the club since it became apparent that the current landlord was not prepared to grant the club a further lease over the ground. Prescot Cables will travel to Lower Breck in the Quarter-Final of this season's Liverpool Senior Cup. Lower Breck are in their first season as a Senior club, having made terrific progress since their formation in 2010. At the time of writing, they sit in fifth position in Division One North of the North West Counties League, having won 11 of their 19 matches. The Evo-Stik League match between Prescot Cables and Colwyn Bay, which had been scheduled for 1st January 2019, has been brought forward to Saturday 29th December 2018. As is customary on Saturdays, this fixture will kick-off at 3.00pm. The two clubs approached the League this morning to request the change of date, which has now been ratified by the Competition. As you all may of heard, unfortunately Ronnie McCarthy sadly passed away recently. Ronnie was a huge supporter of non league football and followed his son's Connor and Ronnie throughout their non-league careers. Ronnie was a great man and well loved throughout non-league football. He will be sadly missed by everyone. Saturday morning saw six hours of torrential rain that almost resulted in the postponement of this game against Droylsden. Fortunately, some excellent work from the groundman prior to the game meant that Volair Park hosted one of the few games in the Evo-Stik League West Division that went ahead at the weekend. For Cables, a return to home comforts meant a return in goal for Ben Barnes and Louis Coyne restored to the heart of defence alongside skipper James McCulloch as they sought to get back to winning ways after the previous weekend’s defeat to Widnes. There are areas of the pitch at Surrey Street which are presently frozen, placing the match in doubt. Passion Atmosphere attitude if you want to be entertained this football is brilliant
Had my 60th birthday party there.. brilliant night, the staff lovely and very helpful would recommend it to anyone wanting to hold any sort of party or special occasion but would recommend you request a late bar when you reserve the date as last orders at bar 10.45pm but can carry on with dancing and music till approx. 12.00.....
Great atmosphere, superb football even when you’re not that into football. Friendliest people ever. If you get the chance come and see for yourselves
