About Preston Guild Hall

Preston Guild Hall & Charter Theatre

Preston Guild Hall Description

In October 2014, the ownership of Preston Guild Hall was transferred from Preston City Council to the Rigby Group of companies, under the directorship of local private entrepreneur Simon Rigby. It is an exciting new chapter in Preston’s entertainment scene and there are ambitious plans in place to elevate the complex back to its previous former glory.

In addition to the programming and event developments to re-establish the 738 seater Charter Theatre and 2034 seater Grand Hall, Simon and his team have already started to invest heavily in the wider complex. The arcade has seen several new popular additions such as the Mundo Tapas restaurant, the Leaf or Bean coffee shop and the Review Wine and Cocktail bar. The latest addition in the Villa Italian restaurant also opened its doors recently in June 2016.

Furthermore, the Grand Hall Foyer has undergone a major programme of refurbishment to create a brand new multifunctional space know as LiVe! , creating the perfect space for intimate gigs, pre- and post-show drinks and for dancing the night away!

The newest development is the purpose-built indoor /outdoor terrace area which has helped to modernise the original balcony area. This latest addition provides our guests with stunning views of the surrounding Grade 1 listed buildings and architecture, such as the Harris Museum, whilst they dine with us, and also boasts a retractable roof canopy for the summer months!

Our next project is gearing up to be our biggest and most sensational yet in the creation of LeVel which is set to become a diverse and unique multi-entertainment complex encompassing a boutique 10-pin bowling alley, a nine-hole crazy golf course, karaoke booths, a sports bar and a Tex Mex diner. This will also involve the creation of a brand new entrance to Preston Guild Hall from Lord Street, ensuring that the complex is accessible to all and becomes the place to be in Preston for all your entertainment and dining needs!

User

what an amazing night fantastic show, i booked the wrong tickets so myself and partner where on different rows but the lady usher went to the box office and got us 2 seats together top marks and thank you to the lovely member of staff. thank you

User

Went to watch May- Nia and it was great

entertainment from beginning to end.

Only downside was the gap between the

Chairs and not much room once you sit down to the seat in front..Apart from that it was a great night, i thought the interval should have been 20 and not 15 mins..

We got married on the charter theatre stage followed by our reception in the LIVE room, it was everything we wished and so much more. Victoria the event organiser went above and beyond for us, answering emails at silly hours, always keeping us updated, she was there all day long on the day, she kept us relaxed and ensured everything ran to plan and we had all we wanted. The tech team made our stage wedding perfect with ambient lighting and the music was perfect, the LIVE bar staff were great hosts and set up the venue alongside us, nothing was too much. Aside from the amazing staff the venue itself was just marvellous, our guests loved how different the venue was and we found it so magical. Getting ready in the backstage dressing rooms with the mirror lights made me feel like a film star! We cannot thank every single person involved, the best day of our lives, the most fantastic venue and a great team of wonderful people.

Took our boy to watch Aladdin last weekend....we howled! It was FANTASTIC! The Slave of the Ring was by far the most entertaining though....I could have watched him all night long and wished he'd had a bigger part in the show. He was enough to make me want to go back again the next day!!

I visit the Guild Hall regularly and love this venue. Local, easy to get to, friendly and helpful staff and the quality and variety of shows on offer is brilliant.

Looking forward to 2018 and more fantastic events!

Fantastic entrainment hub. From wrestling too comedy and everything in between. Brilliant

User

Came here to see Jon Richardson for my birthday. Its a lovely spacious hall & the acoustics are great! The staff are very friendly only too happy to help (Even though they were run off there feet in the bar & in the hall itself!) I'm coming back in December to see Jimmy Carr ( My Xmas present) & I hope the experience will be just as good. Only one small problem I was freezing cold all through the show could you possibly put the heating on a bit higher in the hall & I'll try to remember to bring a coat next time LOL!! :)

User

ALADDIN PANTO!!!!!!!

if you haven’t yet booked to go you must! If you are going without children book a later show - the adult humour is fantastic but equally the shows for the children are brilliant too! I’ve already been 4 times and got tickets for 2 more shows! The cast are great, you can tell they are enjoying it and having fun. I am slightly biased though as our son is one of the pro dancers in the show and he is having the time of his life! Thank you Preston panto for giving him this opportunity and for entertaining us on many different occasions over the Christmas period!

We went to see The Motown Experience. It was an excellent show, great vocals and choreography. However, I have never known an audience so noisy and talking throughout the performance. To top it off, the party in the Box at the rear of the stalls had a row and shouting match. The Guild should either close the bar during performance or make them drink at the bar and not allow people to take in drinks into the auditorium during the show. I've never seen so many people getting up and going to the Bar or the Toilet. It really distracts from the show.

User

We booked tickets for the Magic of Motown last night in the charter theatre and felt really let down with the seats. We were in row B seats 17 & 18 in the circle and my knees were against the seat in front, I had to sit with my jacket & bag on my knee the whole time. I suffer with arthritis in my spine and I had to leave before the end of the performance which was really good.

User

Great atmosphere and some friendly staff!been a few times here and always had a great time, only problem I have is the steps inside the charter theatre are dangerous the number of times Iv tripped and seen other people trip is unreal!!i think lights would help (step lights ) as me and my daughter almost broke our necks getting back to our seats

User

Abba. The Arrival. 10/10 for the show. It was what it said on the tin. However very little change from £20 for 2 wines & 1 lager. Come on Charter Theatre, learn who your local audience is. You are in Preston, not London. The "bar" area hasnt changed since I was a child. You could & should make a killing with drinks before & after. Charge good prices in a comfy environment. Review smells of sick at 7pm. Villa is empty and Level is for "kids". Sort it out!

User

When I originally booked to see the show we booked front row seats then seating was rearranged due to the the floor being used for the band etc. I was disappointed to find that we was sat about six rows back. We booked front row due to my son being in the show with one of the schools attending and taking my two daughters who are only little. I just feel if you book front row and there is a change you still should get a front row seat.

User

The Overtones were fantastic, but there wasn't enough room to get up and dance, then the people who were up at the back started to come down the aisles right upto the front of the stage which I didn't think this was fair, when I've been to other venues, anybody dancing or coming down to the stage were told to go back to where they were seated. I think the security or supervisors should be made aware of this and not allow it

User

Although they have some great performances on here I’ve found the atmosphere quite lacking in terms of I’ve encountered very low level customer service from the box office. Hostile and rude at the best. I’ve had a few friends who also have had similar experiences for this reason I will not be attending this venue again.

User

Major disappointment. Took my nephew to the panto last night. When I went to the box office to book, the matinee was sold out so I queried the length of the show. I was informed that it was an hour and a half long so booked the 5.30pm performance.

At 7pm they announced an interval, and when we asked a member of staff, we were told that in fact the show would not finish until 8.30pm, not 7pm as we were told. As it was a school night, we had to leave; with one very disappointed little boy. Had we known, we would not have bought tickets. My nephew was very upset and it ruined the whole experience. Given the fact that we paid over £50 for two adults and a child, I am furious and will not be visiting this venue in the future.
