Guilt trigger 1 Number 1 has to be birth. Some women report feeling a sense of disappointment and failure when a birth does not go as planned and from that comes the guilt that perhaps “it was my fault, I didn't prepare well enough or try hard enough”. That is really not on! If we stop and consider, we know that the birth we experience is more often the result of luck and circumstance. It is certainly not the “fault” of the woman. In fact, I always think that the woman who ...experiences the really challenging birth is the one who deserves our admiration as she has faced up to the tough choices and come through it for her baby. As the Duke of Sussex noted, any woman giving birth deserves our total respect and admiration!

GUILT... I often think that when you give birth you get another, less attractive gift, the guilt factor. Mums have an alarming tendency to feel responsible for everything and therefore to feel guilty whenever anything goes awry or simply not as planned. I have even felt responsible for the weather when it led to disappointment over plans being changed. So let's debunk it. Over the next 5 days I will focus on the 5 top guilt factors and suggest why we shouldn't even go there. Mums are awesome!

21WEEKS? “Oh I am definitely pregnant now!” is what most of us think around the 21st week of our pregnancy as our breasts have never looked better!!! Do you love your changing body or not…why not embrace it, wear a close fitting top with a bit of cleavage? Much better than hiding behind something resembling a tent. Your body is starting to work a bit harder now and some women develop varicose veins or a few aches after a long day. Keep active, walk often, drink plenty of wa...ter and eat a fibre rich diet. (Linseeds and chia seeds are useful.) Think about pregnancy yoga classes as these help with relaxation and keeping the body supple.

21 WEEKS? At 21 weeks, your baby is starting to swallow amniotic fluid and absorb nutrients through his tummy. You may notice a gradual increase in movements too. As your baby's senses develop, she's becoming increasingly aware of your eating and sleeping habits and of light and noise levels outside your body. So be in touch with her, sing, chat and connect. Some couples use a regular type of music or nursery rhymes which babies become familiar with and it can calm the...m, even after birth.

Everybody is familiar with the concept of birth plans... but how many of you plan the postnatal period, which in all honesty lasts a great deal longer than a birth and can have just as much of an impact. There is a reason why women in traditional cultures are cared for by other women for some weeks after birth, being nurtured and learning to care for their baby in a safe supported circle. In western societies women are discharged from hospital, visited once or twice by a bus...y community midwife and basically expected to cope. No wonder so many women struggle. Women need frequent and consistent support form a professional as well as practical support from the family. Plan for a good two weeks of doing nothing but caring for your baby and have someone (or a group of people) who will prepare your meals, reassure you, help with nappy changes and share the nights with you. In addition, consider a private midwife who will see you daily, support you with recovery, breastfeeding and coping and most importantly, be at the end of the phone for you. You DO deserve it.

"what we know about childbirth is more an unfinished essay than a rulebook..." Such an interesting piece about the Maori tradition but it rings true in essence for all societies.

More wonderful comments from the CQC. We are here for you!

User

It really isn't rocket science, just watch this baby missing his mummy, and then when he gets her shirt.....

User

It isn't always easy to please the CQC whose remit is to,"ensure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care" So Private Midwives were delighted to be rated as a GOOD provider.

20 Weeks? Your baby is looking much more like a baby now and just as well since the 20 week scan will be coming up soon, when the images will really focus on your baby’s organs and development. These are very important but also most couples love to see the detail in the baby and you may get his/her first photo! Will you ask whether it is a boy or a girl? If not, do tell the sonographer before you start.

20 Weeks? Congratulations! Halfway there. You may be starting to look really pregnant now and you may notice some odd aches and pains from round ligament pain as this ligament stretches with your growing uterus. Changes in the structure of your placenta mean that you need to be very focused on your diet, plenty of lean protein sources to support this development and growth. This is what 70 g of protein looks like but you can to break it into smaller portions using nuts, yog...urt and seeds too. If you are veggie then focus on balancing the cereals and legumes and look at tofu, tempeh, nuts, seeds, legumes, buckwheat and whole grains. #private_ midwives #pregnant #preggo #baby #fitpregnancy#empoweredpregnancy #duein2019 #pregnantin2019#babynumber1 #babynumber2#pregnancy #pregnantlife #mummytobe #bump#healthypregnancy #secondtrimester #privatemidwife#independentmidwife#mumtob e #neighbourhoodmidwivesuk #preggomama#preggostyle #mindfulness#20weekspregnant #5monthspregnant #20wks #protein#foodinpregnancy #dietinpregnancy

"It is thought that Meghan had the child at home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, but this has not been officially confirmed by palace aides." Well whatever, she has done it her way and that will feel positive. We wish that for every woman and that she should be treated like royalty. 19 weeks? The baby is now developing Lanugo, the soft, downy hair that covers a baby’s body. You will often still see the remains of this when the baby is born. little bits on shoulders and even the ears. On top of that is vernix caseosa, the oily substance that protects the skin while the baby is growing in the womb. Again, some babies will be born with this coating still in evidence and it is very good for the baby’s skin. It moisturises the skin but more importantly it pro...tects the baby from infections. This is because the vernix contains antioxidants, as well as anti-infection and anti-inflammatory properties. If we could reproduce this I am sure it would be the latest wonder product. NOTE do not let anyone bath your baby too soon as this removes all these amazing benefits. #private_midwives #pregnant #preggo #baby #fitpregnancy#empoweredpregnancy #duein2019 #pregnantin2019#babynumber1 #babynumber2#pregnancy #pregnantlife #mummytobe #bump#healthypregnancy #secondtrimester #privatemidwife#independentmidwife#mumtob e #neighbourhoodmidwivesuk #preggomama#preggostyle #mindfulness#19weekspregnant #5monthspregnant #19wks #protein #lanugo #vernixcaseosa #babyskin

19 Weeks? Most women find the beginning of the second trimester of their pregnancy quite enjoyable. Your bump is not too big and you will generally have good energy. However, your body is still learning to adjust to a change in your centre of gravity and it is a good time to think about your posture and strengthening your body. Pilates is a great form of exercise which will strengthen your core and help you maintain good posture. A pregnancy pilates class is ideal and will fo...cus on appropriate exercise for your needs. Aim for a class using reformer machines as these ensure you do not put too much strain on your body. Swimming, walking and yoga are also popular and may help emotionally as well as physically. #private_midwives #pregnant #preggo #baby #fitpregnancy#empoweredpregnancy #duein2019 #pregnantin2019#babynumber1 #babynumber2#pregnancy #pregnantlife #mummytobe #bump#healthypregnancy #secondtrimester #privatemidwife#independentmidwife#mumtob e #neighbourhoodmidwivesuk #preggomama#preggostyle #mindfulness#19weekspregnant #4monthspregnant #19wks #protein#pregnancypilates #pregnancyyoga #exerciseinpregnancy
