All the Rocky films on TV are great inspiration!

Ahhh, potential.
Something I think that is responsible for A LOT of unhappiness.
Which sounds strange, doesn't it?
... We get bombarded with 'motivation' like
'Your potential is sky high'
But it is WORTHLESS.
You know that saying
'A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush'?
Not even close.
A bird in the hand is worth countless birds outside of the hand.
This is what potential actually is.
Things you haven't actually got.
It has ZERO worth to you, right now.
The problem is we romanticize potential, thinking of 'what may be'
And then get sad that we're not even slightly close to this 'potential', the effective ceiling on what our minds can conjure.
All the while distracting and diverting us away from the next IMMEDIATE and EFFECTIVE step that is available to us NOW, in our present.
Typical scenario:
Someone is overweight, either remembering when they were not overweight, many moons ago, or envious of images of perfect bodies.
Their very desire to have this potential fulfilled causes pain, as they are far from this point...
So they make themselves feel better with some short term good feeling, like cake, or alcohol...
Which is a small step IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION of where they wish to go.
You must release potential.
There is only the next small step in front of you, today, NOW.
Go in the right direction.
Like get your butt in the gym!
See you soon!

Ah, good ol' happiness!
We're in constant pursuit of it, aren't we?
That is actually the problem.
... But I get ahead of myself...
So why is happiness so important?
How is that for a stupid question?
Because happiness is just... great.
It feels good.
But it also 'does' stuff.
We make different decisions when happy.
We are just all round better people when happy.
So let's be happy, shall we?
But HOW?
Well, I think I have the answer.
I truly, fully believe that happiness is derived as follows:
Progress towards goals of our desire.
Note that is NOT achieving them.
It's the PROGRESS, the movement toward that which we want.
And it has to be what we want, not someone else.
So first, define what you want.
What YOU actually WANT.
I don't care how fantastic or unconventional!
Now think about where you are, in relation to that goal.
Now form a plan to take the smallest, but measurable step towards that goal.
Repeat that bit LOTS.
As soon as you can see recognizable progress (which is why measurable is important), I predict a hit of happiness.
Now apply this TO EVERY BIT OF YOUR LIFE.
We're looking for multiple streams of income here.
As many streams of happy juice flowing into our existence as we can possibly create.
A great example is training. We can measure where we are, see the smallest possible step forward, hit it, feel like SUPERHEROES, then keep going!
As I said, it's not achieving the goals though, it's the progress bit that contains the good stuff, so try to make the goals as open ended as possible so you can pursue them forever!
And try to do it EVERYWHERE. Every bit of your life!
If you don't agree with me, fine. Please go ahead and challenge this theory.
But make sure you come up with a better one to take it's place!
Because I'll use that instead myself!
But for now... Happiness Is Progress Towards Goals Of Our Desire.
Use it, be happy!
See you in the gym soon!

So I last wrote about the one big thing for change...
Change that we desire that is.
And that the one big thing for that to happen is REALLY POWERFUL EMOTION.
... So I went with love...
Because love is nice. Right?
And of course someone asks me
"But what about other powerful emotions, like hate?"
So rather than answer them individually
I thought it was a fun thing to write about instead.
So then, you want change...
And you need powerful emotion to make it happen...
Will hate do the job?
Yes it will.
BUT (who doesn't love a big but?)
Hate is a much harder emotion to carry to positive, building actions.
It CAN be done. It's just much tougher.
If we are present in ourselves and smart about it, we can feel ANY emotion and have it drive us to the same, desired outcome.
I'll give an example:
What made me build PTS to what it is, and what it represents?
-Well, obviously I LOVE physical culture. And I LOVE progress. And I LOVE helping people. And I LOVE happiness and happy people.
-But, also, I HATE the fitness industry. I HATE dishonesty... You get the picture.
I could use my hatred of the fitness industry to go around burning all those horrible corporate gyms to the ground, for example.
Honestly, Your Honour, I didn't do it.
Instead I use my hatred to make sure MY gym doesn't turn into what I detest, and build something different and worthwhile.
So if you feel hate, then use it. Because you can't escape feeling it.
But use it build something better.
And make sure there's love there too, otherwise hate will burn you out...
Anyway, much love!
See you at the gym soon!

Remember, Body Blasters (one of the favourites) is on Wednesdays for another few weeks until it goes back to it's usual slot of Tuesdays again!

User

The best gym around by miles! Whether it's challenging small group classes, or a very wide variety of individual training options PTS has it all! The gym isn't pigeonholed by one genre of training and has something for everyone.

User

Only been to two classes and already loving the environment and the overall experience of the gym! Ali (the owner) has enough knowledge and enthusiasm to make you want to give it your all in every session and overall, people are super friendly and helpful! I'm absolutely loving it and I can't wait for the next class - hopefully I won't be late to the next one!

User

Nice welcoming atmosphere and I loved the kettlebell class. Not overly subscribed and staff offered advice and motivation without being pushy. Very reasonably priced with a variety of classes on their timetable. Have already recommended it to a few friends.

User

Love training in this gym. People are very friendly and all the instructors are amazing and they really guide me to ensure my excercises are done correctly. Great variety of classes. Personally very happy to be part of this gym.

User

I've only been to one class, I'm due to another and a few weeks out of my first competition being held there.

It's a great environment, unbelievable amount of equipment and everyone was super friendly. I look forward to spending more time at PTS

User

I like PTS for many reasons. Such as the fact that there is ample parking space, and that it is a big open space without mirrors but with a lot of equipment. When I tell friends about 'my' gym I tell them it's a playground for adults. Says it all.

I have just completed the ITEC Diploma in Personal Training (RQF Level 3) run at PTS. The ITEC syllabus was questionable at times (it didn't always match with the exams or seem relevant to the course!), but Ali Wilson took a very practical stance on it and got us all through the exams. He taught us how to be Personal Trainers in the real world and warned us of the pitfalls of this industry. I thoroughly recommend this course to anybody who wants to become a personal Trainer.

User

I absolutely love this gym! I used to struggle to motivate myself to go to the gym twice a week now I struggle because there are so many great classes I want to do and not enough hours in the week. Ali and Faye are both awesome - it’s great to be trained by two people who are genuine, knowledgeable and actually passionate about helping people achieve their goals and become better than they thought they could be!! If you want results then PTS is your place!

User

Awesome gym, run by great people! I thought I was doing OK until I came here and realised how much more was possible! I have seen massive gains in strength and size as the guys not only work on increasing your strength, your fitness and your conditioning, they also work on your belief. Thanks PTS!

User

Awesome gym, run by awesome people. Classes are fun, challenging and effective. I've seen faster results in three months than in a whole year at a regular gym. Try it, you won't regret it!
