About Prospect Hospice

End of life care for Swindon & north-east Wiltshire affected by a life-limiting illness. Tag Prospect Hospice for a chance to be featured on our page.

Prospect Hospice Description

Prospect Hospice supports a community of 300, 000 people in Swindon, Marlborough and north Wiltshire, and the villages of Lechlade and Fairford in Gloucestershire. In 2014-15 Prospect Hospice cared for and supported more than 6, 400 people, as patients, carers and family members, through a range of services developed to bring care, comfort and confidence at life’s most difficult time. For patients, there are teams of nurses, doctors and therapists, bringing care at the hospice in Wroughton, in their own homes and care homes and through a palliative care team based at the Great Western Hospital. Carers and family members also access services designed to help their coping when a loved one has accessed our care. Information on Prospect Hospice’s services, all of which are provided free of charge, can be found here.

Increasingly we work in close partnership with other care-focused organisations, and specifically with local health- and social care professionals, with the shared aim of bringing the best possible care to people in their final months, weeks and years.

Prospect Hospice is a registered charity. Last year it cost more than £7. 2M to provide the care and raise the funds to provide our care our patients and their families depend on each year. We receive less than 30 per cent of our income from statutory organisations such as the NHS - the rest we raise ourselves. Find out more about the many ways you can support Prospect Hospice on our website.

Since 1980 Prospect has provided the only dedicated end-of-life care service for the 300, 000 people living in our community – bringing care, comfort and confidence, around the clock, every day of the year.

Thanks to you, we help people like Hannah Mason and her mum, Kersty: “Mum had ovarian cancer,” remembers Hannah, “She needed a lot of persuading just to visit Prospect Hospice, but when she did she had a room overlooking a beautiful garden, and what she felt was entirely different from what she was expecting. She loved it there and the care that she received in her final days was incredible.”
Hannah was also grateful to our Family Support team. “They really helped me so much,... while Mum was ill and after she died. I’m at university now and I’m not sure that I would have felt ready without them.”
Hannah has kindly agreed to help our Summer Raffle, which runs until 10 September. You can play too by clicking here to buy tickets at just £1 each, for the chance to win our £3,000 top prize. Visit www.prospect-hospice.net/summerraffle to find out more.

Yesterday we welcomed 11 patients to our day therapy unit to take part in one of four wellbeing days that we run through the year as part of our regular Open Programme, which supports patients through a series of workshops and sessions to help them cope with their illnesses. Look at the lovely things that they made and some home pick produce from our hospice garden today. Have you a picture of a craft piece that you've made as Prospect Hospice?

User

Where do I start. We as a family cannot thank the prospect hospice enough for looking after our beautiful Jan Phipps during her painful battle with cancer.

Jan sadly passed away yesterday at the prospect and I am sure that jan as well as the rest of the family would wish the prospect all the best and to look out for some donations coming over the next few months to give the prospect the opportunity to look after others.

I personally thank all that looked after jan in her moments of need.

We moved from London and were already overwhelmed by the care at the Great Western Hospital as well as the support from local care workers BUT when dad got really ill and was in his final days the hospital recommended the hospice. I had my reservations, my friends told me you should go and see for yourself. They used words like "the people there are like angels". I found this to be true in every aspect of the care and service they gave to us. Dad passed away this year in Feb after spending 4/5 months at the Hospice. The care that was shown to him and us as a family is beyond what any of us could have imagined. Thank you.

This is my second night in Prospect with mum. She's been here for three weeks now.

I cannot tell you how absolutely wonderful all of the staff are. Day time or night time.

NOTHING is to much bother and they couldn't be more caring and supportive.

What a fabulous place with fabulous people.

God bless you all and thank you for what you're doing for mum.

I know that when her journey ends 'WE' will have had the best care available!!

User

The prospect hospice was there to care for both my father and nan. They also supported my mum as well. The people who work there do a truly wonderful job and that is why I perform the 15k back marshalling every year at the starlight walk. Yesterday was my 7th year in partaking in the wonderful event. Long may it continue x

User

The Prospect were simply amazing when my dad sadly passed away. It was so peaceful and all of the staff/nurses/carers were so comforting and so loving. This charity deserves everything they can get and more xx

My husband was cared for by these wonderful people for several weeks before he passed they did amazing, such caring nurses and carers couldnt have faulted them in any way.

They also took great care of me whilst my stay with him made me feel so welcome and gave me comfort when i needed them. All i can say is these lovely people need all the donations they can to stay open and take care of our loved ones <3 xxxxx

User

My father passed away in the early hours of saturday morning just gone. I stayed in the lodge on the grounds to be with him. The staff called me at 6.45am telling me to be quick. Within minutes I was with him as he took his last breath. The staff there are absolutely incredible and should be given the highest medals in the land. They made sure his every need was taken care of. If he hadnt have gone to the hospice for palliative care, he would not have been given the space, dignity and pain free last few hours. His room overlooked the immaculate grounds and the birds were all fluttering outside his window. Perfect place, perfect people. Will ask for all funeral flower donations to be turned into monetry donation to this beautiful charity. Peace and love x

User
