Puppy Steps

About Puppy Steps

Professionally trained puppies, which have had best possible start in life. We teach key early socialisation skills along with house training, crate training, sit, down, recall, walking on the lead and correct interaction with dogs and children.

Puppy Steps Description

Here at Puppy Steps we understand the importance of having an obedient, well mannered and happy dog. We also know how difficult it can be to achieve these goals with the time constraints of daily life. Family, work and even lack of know how are some of the biggest reasons that puppies and their new owners aren't as happy or relaxed as they could be. That is why at Puppy Steps we use our expertise and knowledge to free up your time and make owning a puppy as stress free as possible.
We offer a range of services from one to one puppy training sessions, right through to finding and training a puppy ready for their new family.
All of our puppies live in the family home with our 3 dogs and 2 children learning valuable socialisation skills at this key time in their development. During their stay with us we crate train and house train the puppies. We also teach manners and basic obedience of sit, down, recall and lead walking.
The end result being a well balanced and happy dog that can be enjoyed by you from the very beginning.

Frida, one of trainee Labradors enjoying the sun today. Remember, when its this hot, the dogs will be better off not being walked. If they must be walked do it early morning or late evening when the temperatures are a little cooler.

Lola has been helping Harry to make mud pies today! They made a mess, but had lots of fun doing so. Lola loves water and spending a lot of time splashing in the water bath and chasing the hose pipe. She’s great with the children and is progressing very well with her training.

Yesterday we asked you to take a guess at which breed of dog Archie was. There were lots of good guesses and in the end Dyan Bragan guessed the breed correctly. Archie is from 2 black parents, is KC registered pedigree and from working lines. Hes very rare, our own vet has never seen one before. He is a result of both parents carrying a recessive gene which causes the tan points. What makes him even rarer is that he also carries the brindle gene too. The gene responsible for ...the tan points and his black and tan markings are believed to have come from a Gordon Setter which was introduced into the breed a long time ago in an attempt to improve working ability. His parents are both health tested with great temperaments. Archie is very placid and extremely friendly. Archie is in fact a Labrador!!!!! He is with our Manchester branch and being trained by Neil Thomas and Michelle Brooks for the next 4 weeks and is now available for selection.

We often get asked how our older dogs get on with the puppies. Here is Harper, one of our trainee cocker spaniels, cuddled up with Abbey our 6 year old springer spaniel. They all get on very well, which is great for early socialisation

Even with the weather being as warm as it is I'm still surprised by how many dogs I see being walked whilst its hot outside. Here is a guide to help determine safe temps for our much loved pets. Remember try to walk them early morning or late evening when the temperature is cooler. It may just save their life.

***************** EXCITING NEWS ************************
Due to an ever increasing demand for our trained puppies, and only having a few spaces left for the remainder of 2018, we are delighted to announce that we now have a Puppy Steps Manchester branch.
We would like to welcome Neil and Michelle to the team and look forward to working with them as they put the puppies through our Puppy Steps training program. ...
They currently have Molly the chocolate cocker spaniel, who has been pre selected using our puppy finding service, and Teddy a golden labrador, who will be available once he has completed the Puppy Steps training program. We will be working closely with them to ensure all puppies are trained to the high standards which we strive for in order to give all new owners their perfect puppies.

Just over a year ago we had a litter of sproodles, springer spaniel x poodle. We have been lucky enough to receive regular updates from most of the puppies and watch them grow. Here is Daisy one year on, she's very popular and receives plenty of fuss where ever she goes.

With the temperatures set to rise this week we need to remember that our dogs can and do overheat if we aren't careful. Dogs don't have shoes or protection on their feet and the tarmac paths and roads get extremely hot which can burn their feet. Walk your dogs early in the morning before the temps start to rise or last thing in the evening. Try to walk them on the grass or through woodland where the floor temperature will be much cooler. Make sure you take a drink of water for them and keep exercise short. A few days without a walk won't kill them but a walk in the heat like today might.

We often get asked which food we use or we recommend. This is the food which all of our puppies are fed. They all love it and do extremely well on it. Akela contains no grain, packers or fillers and is an 80:20 mix of meat and veg. The dogs love it and their overall condition is fantastic. If you are running low on food or just want to give it a try then you can use the link here to the food we use http://www.wholeprey.com/akela-80-…/ake la-pet-dog-food.html…

We would highly recommend Andrew and Puppy Steps we had our new puppy Margot from him and the whole experience has been fantastic. Andrew has a deep knowledge and experience of dogs and a genuine passion for them which gave us loads of confidence. Would highly recommend!

We have wanted our own dog for many years but with both of us working full time, it just wasn't possible. A mutual friend told me about Andy, so I contacted him to ask about the unique service he was offering. We had two in depth telephone conversations about our lifestyle, which breed would suit us, his experience with dogs, and the training he was offering etc. Yesterday we went to view one of Andy's puppies, a little black Cocker Spaniel. She was absolutely adorable, so tiny but full of beans. Andy is extremely knowledgable, he answered all our questions, and gave us plenty of advice and encouragement. We spent some time with Andy and his wife Lucy and two beautiful children, Harry and Libby. They made us feel very much at home, they are both so easy to talk to, even though it was our first meeting it felt like we had known them for ever. Andy is a great person, so professional, with extremely high principles. There was no pressure to adopt the puppy, we all needed to make sure it was the correct thing for all concerned. Fortunately they must have liked us too, because Andy and Lucy agreed that we were going to be responsible dog owners, who would give their puppy the home it deserved. We're collecting our puppy now named Aoife (pronounced - eefa) at the beginning of December.

Andy is offering an exceptional service, his passion and enthusiasm is phenomenal, and I would thoroughly recommend Andy to anyone who thought they couldn't take on a puppy. Exciting times ahead!!

We have been delighted with Puppy Steps. We approached Andy about finding us a Labrador and he helped us with our decisions over male/female, working/show etc. He then found Holly for us and trained her in his family home for 4 weeks before we brought her home on Sunday. We cannot believe how well trained she is - she’s an absolute dream! Andy clearly loves the dogs and vice versa and is so knowledgeable and helpful with his advice. I’d highly recommend his services.

User

We have a new pup and was interested in learning more on how to train but wasn’t really sure on what route to go down. Andy was recommended to us, he came to visit us yesterday and he was brilliant! Really informative and very relaxed! He really knows his stuff! Would highly recommend!!

User

We cannot recommend Puppy Steps highly enough! We needed a puppy with the right temperament to train as an assistance dog for our 7 year old son. Andy found us the perfect puppy and completed her initial training before we collected her 3 weeks ago. The work he had put in to make sure she was the right dog and teaching us how to continue her obedience training has been invaluable! She really is remarkable! We are on our way home from a week in Cornwall and everyone we met was amazed and how calm and well behaved she is for a 15 week old pup! Thank you Andy

User

We asked Andy to find and train a puppy for us but changed our minds in favour of an older dog. Although he doesn’t train older dogs Andy couldn’t have been more helpful, working with us to find the right dog for our circumstances. It was good to have his expert opinion and guidance in a world where one can so easily be duped by the unscrupulous.

User

We are so glad we found puppy steps, I spoke to Andy a couple of times on the phone and we decided to visit , we met Andy and his lovely family, we were introduced to Harvey and Holly, we were made to feel at home as we discussed everything we needed to, Andy went through all the training that Harvey had done whilst in his care, we decided to give Harvey a home as he matched all we wanted, we went back the week after to collect him and we went for a walk with Andy and Harvey so we could be shown how to keep up the good work, so we took Harvey Home and he has proven to be everything Andy said about him, he loves us all and our other dog and cats . I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Puppy Steps to anyone wanting a trained puppy .

We are delighted with Lottie. Andy has done a brilliant job with her and has delivered everything he promised. She has settled and progressed with her training and is a wonderful dog. Thank you.

User

Picked up our trained puppy pickles from andy. He came to us house and crate trained. Re calling and sitting. We have texted andy a few times for tips and advice and he is literally brillant and happily helped us with our question. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a trained puppy!

Izzy has arrived and we couldn’t be happier with her!! Having three young children we were apprehensive about getting a puppy knowing that it would be like having a fourth child, mainly that we’d have all the sleepless nights, toilet and basic obedience training before actually getting to enjoy our wee puppy. Well, how lucky were we to find Andy who offered a bespoke puppy finding and training service. Andy clearly knows his stuff and from first contact by phone I knew that we were going to have him find, look after and get our wee dog ready for family life. On Izzy arriving in our home, she has slept in her crate, goes to the toilet outside and for a 12 week puppy she sits beautifully waiting on her dinner, oh, and she won’t even start eating until she’s told (if only Andy took children!) She was off the lead the day after arriving home and people have commented how well behaved Izzy is. I would highly recommend the service Andy provides, he’s always at the other end of the phone to answer any questions or offer any advice. We had a training session when we picked Izzy up and Andy provides a helpful wee care pack for when you arrive home. A big thank you to Andy and his family for a perfect service, I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending him.
