What is distilled water?

Distilled water is the purest form of water available, with all the contaminants and other byproducts found in regular tap water carefully removed.

How is distilled water produced?

Distilled water is produced in a similar way to nature's own water cycle.

Just as rain is produced from evaporation followed by condensation to liquid water, water distillers also produce "rain in a chamber". This is achieved by heating and then vaporising regular tap water into sterilised steam, before condensing this water back into its original pure liquid state.

The water distiller system collects the contaminants produced and the safe, clean, distilled water remains.

What is distilled water used for?

Untreated water contains impurities that can be corrosive to mechanical parts, and even toxic to humans, making it unsuitable for more delicate applications or even human consumption.

Distilled water is purified and has a range of applications that you might not be aware of, including supplementing household aquarium water, pressing clothes with steam irons, as well as giving you 99. 99 percent pure drinking water.

Distilled water is also the preferred choice for use in automotive cooling systems, as the ions and minerals found in regular water can be corrosive to a car's internal engine components. It is also used extensively with laboratory environments to maintain clean laboratory equipment and specimens.

How does a distilled water system compare with bottled, filtered or purified water systems?

A distilled water system produces water that is 99. 99 percent pure.

Bottled water is usually minimally filtered and home filtered water systems, even those that use reverse osmosis, cannot achieve this high level of purification.

Water distillers also eliminate many more harmful, microscopic contaminants than other water filter or purifier systems. A distilled water system is also not susceptible to a build up of bacteria due to neglect or a blockage, unlike a standard filtration system.

A water distilling system is also a more cost effective and eco-friendly solution when compared with the packaging waste and replacement filters required by the bottled water and filtered water industries.

Does distilled water remove essential minerals that I need?

The distillation process is known to remove certain essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron as well as electrolytes such as potassium and chloride. However, 95 percent of the minerals our bodies need actually comes from our food, and not our liquid consumption. So you can be rest assured that by drinking distilled water you are not neglecting your body's mineral consumption, but actually avoiding potentially dangerous contaminants.
