Compline is the final service of the day. A service of quietness and reflection, it is a time to relax and unwind after the stresses of the day. Tonight's candlelit service includes music by William Byrd and Queens' alumnus C.V Stanford, and will be followed by refreshments in the ante-chapel!

Tonight at Evensong we will be singing Giles Swayne's setting of the Magnificat. Written in 1982, the Magnificat comprises a number of native folksongs from the Jola people of Southern Senegal and The Gambia, which Swayne encountered and recorded during his ethnographic trip to Africa. The opening call is taken from the work-song 'O Lulum' which returns as a refrain later in the song, whilst the polyrhythmic layers that permeate the work pay homage to the choral songs of the Ba-Benzele pygmies of the Congo region. We look forward to seeing you there!

At choral Evensong tonight, with guest conductor Christopher Robinson, our anthem is "My soul, there is a country." The piece- one of Parry's six "Songs of Farewell"- was influenced by Parry's own experience of losing many of his pupils at the Royal College of Music as they were killed or injured in action during the First World War.

Having spent the last week in Paris, today we arrived in the stunning city of Angers! Tomorrow evening we perform a concert including extracts from Durufle's Requiem with our friends of La Maîtrise de la Cathédrale D'Angers!
