New autumn course! The Hove (with a bit of Brighton) Quilt-a-Long Made up of block designs inspired by the tiles seen in front of houses around Hove (and a bit of Brighton!), it is hand sewn, and instructions for two blocks will be given at each class - one for us to do on the night, and another to sew at home. There are sixteen blocks in total, but a quilt can be made from just nine, so there is no pressure to keep up if life gets busy. Each block is named after the road wh...ere the tiles have been photographed, and I have been enjoying researching the introduction to each one where I will give background knowledge to the area and when the houses were built. Where: The Fashion School, 69 North Road, Brighton, BN1 1YD When: 6th and 20th September, 4th and 18th October, 1st and 15th and 29th November, 13th December. 7pm till 9pm What do I need: Fabric and a hand sewing kit Cost: £130 for eight sessions

My talented friend Wendy Ward is hosting a sewing evening in Hove in aid of The Martlets. It looks great - ideas for up-cycling, free patterns and a glass of fizz! Tickets are available from the link below. https://www.themartlets.org.uk/E…/an-ev ening-with-wendy-ward

Starts tomorrow evening at 7pm! Each session looks at a different patchwork technique, starting with basic rotary cutting and squares, then covering traditional strip piecing, appliqué and half-square triangles. Quilting and binding are also covered which makes it an excellent introduction to the basics of making a quilt using a sewing machine. The course is fortnightly, and machines are already set up in the workshop at Brighton Sewing centre which means you just need to bring fabric.

I am running two hand sewing workshops at the lovely Garden House in Brighton next Saturday to help raise money for a friend who is taking part in a charity bike ride. Each ticket includes a kit to make a flower mat (with instructions in case you want to make more, they look fab made up in Christmas fabrics...), tuition, tea, and homemade cake, We are hoping it will be sunny so you can find a comfy spot in the garden to relax and sew.
