R M Motor Engineers Ltd (Permanently Closed)

Very Disappointing.... I had to take my car back as they hadn't fixed it properly they tried to fob me off. Obviously that didn't wash I kicked up a bit off fuss and stood over them while they rectified the problem. No interest in customer service. Won't be back

I had quite a strange experience with R M Motors in the last few days - I'm a GP and know nothing about cars I just feel I should share what happened, but you can make your own mind up.

The engine coolant light came on in my Golf, they had previously fixed my water pump 5 months earlier and as the same light was on I took it back to R M Motors to see if it was a problem with that. They kindly agreed to look at the car and allowed me to bring it any time I wanted.

I took it in the next day and left it with them, within a couple of hours they rang me up, saying the coolant expansion tank had a small crack in it causing coolant to leak and they could fix this for £210. This was all over the phone - so sadly no proof of this.

I thought £210 sounded expensive, especially as you can see the plastic coolant tank when you open the bonnet. I rang some other garages and had quotes for £60-80 for this work.

I rang RM motors back and said I would get the work done elsewhere and agreed to pick the car up the next day. When I did pick the car up, they said there was no leak anywhere and the problem was with a dodgy sensor. Initially I was happy about this as it meant no work needed doing. But the more I thought about it, i'm now sure that they had made up a problem with the coolant tank and tried to charge me an extortionate price to fix something that wasn't needed.

I certainly wont be using the garage again and to be honest, I wished I had recorded the original call about the crack in the coolant tank. I suppose my first instinct is always to trust the experts, especially as they claim to be a traditional garage, with traditional values - My experience suggests quite the opposite.

Dishonest and untrustworthy. Avoid at all cost.

Claims to have "traditional values" on the website, yet doesnt pay for parts/spares they've committed too. Deceitful and dishonest business practice, beware!
