About Rabbinic Training Academy

Traditionally, rabbis have spent the vast majority of their training learning kosher laws. In modern times, Shabbat and Family Purity laws are often studied also, with elements of counselling and public speaking added in. They usually train in a vacuum – a space that is very different from the realities of the world they must face in their future leadership role. Green and inexperienced in the outside world, they must assume a role of religious, moral and spiritual leadership and responsibility, which often places people's emotional well-being in their hands. Has their training shown them how to offer wise and informed guidance, explore situations from new perspectives and provide loving support to the everyday personal challenges people face? Our informal research has shown us that the answer is a resounding ‘no'. That's where the Rabbinical Training Academy steps in. We aim for our Rabbis to hold an approach that is open-minded and human, humble and caring and to be truly sensitive on how to provide spiritual guidance and support in an ever fast changing and complex world. Ultimately these concepts and belief structures we hold will be an enabler for a healthier Jewish community and a better world. The Academy is at its essence about creating a genuine paradigm shift in how our Rabbis lead their respective communities.
