Racehorses might work hard whilst in training, but, in retirement they like to take it easy! We ensure our ex racers want for nothing, but Tim takes this 5 star luxury to a whole new level. πŸ˜‚

It's that time of year again when we ask you to consider not giving your money to the bookies by betting on #TheGrandNational, but instead donating it to a racehorse rescue charity like ours. We take in horses after their racing days are over, some straight from the track, others come in as welfare cases after having fallen on very hard times. However, ultimately they are some of the 'lucky' ones who have been given the chance to enjoy retirement - sadly, not all get to experience that. 😒 Alfie here (Supreme Glory), is one of the lucky ones - this wonderful horse, a Grand National veteran, is a permanent resident, and family member here at the charity, and even though he is known as "Mr Grumpy" 🀣, is loving the retirement he worked so hard for.

Okay, so we will be sticking to rescuing thoroughbreds, but we hope you enjoyed our April Fools joke this morning! Now he has found out we won't be taking in Shetland Ponies afterall, our littlest volunteer is very relieved he won't have to do all the work! 🀣🀣

In a shock new ruling, ALL ex racehorse rehoming charities have been told they MUST accept retired racing Shetland Ponies going forward. Shetland Pony racing has become more popular in recent years, and more are coming out of racing looking for a good home. Mrs Loof, spokeswoman for Racehorse Rehoming says "it's quite a worry, we don't know how the Shetlands will get along with the thoroughbreds we already have in the yard. We also need to consider recruiting lots of new volunteers small enough to ride the Shetlands to help with their rehabiliation." The new rule comes in to effect 31st April 2019.

It was clear that Korakor REALLY enjoyed his UniqueEquine massage on the lawn with our physiotherapist Catherine. As soon as she had finished, he couldn't contain his excitement and bounded off, making many holes in the lovely manicured grass.😳 It seems a physio's job description now extends to hiding divots and laughing very loudly!!!! 🀣 Doesn't his golden coat look absolutely gorgeous in the sun! ❀️

As we reach the end of Down's Syndrome Awareness week, we would like to celebrate a very special volunteer with you - Oli.
Oli's mum had horses when he was little, and he did attend pony club when he was younger, however, he has not ridden for years. A few months ago, he started volunteering here, as he loves being around horses, and wants to do as much as he could to help. He had sat on our Danish Warmblood Wozza before, but after months of being around our horses, on Friday..., he decided he had built up enough confience to ride our gentle giant. He started off on the lunge, but, as his confidence grew even more, he moved onto trotting unaided - and proved to be very good at it too! Oli is absolutely brilliant with our horses, and even when Timmy decided to go in the opposite direction to him, leaving him face down in the mud, he jumped up with a broad smile across his face. He's bright, quick witted and and an absolute joy to have on our Friday team. 😊
His enthusiasm is infectious, and hence Fridays have turned into 'Sing a Song' day, our favourite is 🎢🎢 HI HO HI HO ITS OFF TO WORK WE GO 🎢🎢 We love Fridays. ❀

Today is International Day of Happiness! 😊 We receive lots of lovely feedback from people who rehome our horses, as to how much happiness their new equine friend brings. How does your horse make you happy? We'd love to see your pics and video - let's share the horse happiness!

Thank you so much for the mention Deborah Bonham! It's fair to say, rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming these beautiful equine athletes does not come cheap, and we get no funding from anywhere other than our kind supporters who help us ensure these deserving horses have a life after racing. <3 If you would like to help, you can here: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/…/fina lCharityHomepage.act…

We've had this lovely update on gorgeous Gary (Nayef Star), from his mum Ceri:
"Gary's turn to have an adventure! We had an amazing ride with Jan and Monty, at Ladybower and Winn Hill. He loved every minute, and was very well behaved. Who is this strange horse I seem to have acquired?"
It sounds like he is being a good boy for once (first time for everything!). I hope we don't jinx it by posting this! 🀣

You may remember our heartfelt tribute to our gorgeous Monaassib who we sadly lost last year. His former trainer, Ed Dunlop, was pivotal in getting him here after after he fell on hard times, demonstrating the affection that he, and his team had for this horse - a whole six years after his racing career was over. That affection continues even now, as, after hearing the news of Mon's passing, Ed's team contacted us wanting to pay their own tribute to this exceptional horse in their latest newsletter. Of course, we agreed, it's nothing more that Mon deserves.
