Racehorse Rescue Centre Description

The Racehorse Rescue Centre (RRC) is a registered charity No. 1150864 based in Carlisle, serving the whole UK. It is an Approved Rescue and Re-training Centre by the RoR. By rescuing ex racehorses we give them a secure safe environment and the opportunity to move onto new careers once they have finished racing.

We are not just a Rescue Centre
We provide free programmes to disadvantaged groups throughout the UK to help them develop their skills in the community such as injured soldiers, probation services, disabled, employment services, colleges and therapy for people suffering from trauma or depression. We are 100% volunteer run so any help goes direct to the horses and not on salaries.
The Racehorse Rescue Centre works with the community through its highly motivated volunteer team. Horses that come to the Centre are given time to go back to their roots and allowed to socialise with the other horses to build up development and confidence. We retrain ex racehorses to their best ability and find new caring homes that will secure their future. Other horses that work well with our programmes will stay at the Centre to help educate the community in the importance of how equine therapy can help disadvantaged groups. We have other older horses that are harder to re-home and these will stay with us if no homes can be found. The RRC do not sell horses on and keeps ownership for the rest of their lives.
The Racehorse Rescue Centre relies on donations from the caring public, companies and its trustees. Any funding is spent directly on the horses and to help secure their future. The trustees have been rescuing ex racehorses for the past 25 years and started the charity in 2010 to help create awareness of the problem and to get the community more involved. We believe it has a bright future ahead thanks to the hard work the volunteers put in and with the support of the community throughout the world we hope to continue to grow.

We are so very grateful to Eddie's gym, fighting for funds for their event which raised a brilliant £3,300 for charity to be shared between the Racehorse Rescue Centre and Air Ambulance. Thank you to all stable hands, farriers and jockeys who took part and a big thank you to Eddie Guest and Robert Mckellar for arranging it all. Well done!

Help celebrate Peaks 25th Birthday on the 28th of November by raising £100 For those of you who do not know Peak, he was born and successfully raced in New Zealand, then was shipped to England and successfully raced and retired when he was 11 years old. Peak was retained and re-homed near Birmingham and spent a happy time with his new owner going to local shows until his owner became ill in 2011.
Peak's owner asked the Racehorse Rescue Centre to give him a home and luckily f...or Peak we had a stable free. Unfortunately we have not found Peak a new home because of his age and now his medical condition. But he still gives a lot of pleasure to children and everyone who meets him at the Centre, as you can see in the photos. Please take time to look at these.
Please consider sponsoring Peak via our website www.racehorserescue.org.uk/sponsor.htm or donating now to give Peak a VERY SPECIAL 25th BIRTHDAY!!!!
All donations will go to Peak, as the Racehorse Rescue Centre is entirely run by VOLUNTEERS who take no salary. Photos and a list of presents will be posted on here for his Birthday.
We hope to get him a winter rug, numnah, his own grooming kit, treats and toys for his stable, supplements, new feed and water buckets head collar and lead rope.
Thank you

Ted, taking a look around his new home. What a gentleman he has been. We miss him already. He has been a big part of the Racehorse Rescue Centre from helping volunteers gain their confidence to being an ambassador for the charity by showing that former racehorses can have a career after racing when properly retrained. We wish Ted and his new owners the best of luck in their new home.
