A global operation specialising in the supply of premium, natural sugar and syrup formulations to multi-national organisations, SME and speciality product companies in bakery products, confectionery, cereals, frozen foods, preserves, soft drinks, brewing and pharmaceuticals.
Based in the UK the Ragus service covers all phases of modern pure sugar production from the sourcing of naturally grown cane and beet through to the wide choice of quality, healthy and nutritious sugar ingredients essential to healthy and balanced diets.
Sourcing
Ragus has in depth knowledge of global sourcing to deliver sugars & syrups - tailor made if required to individual requirements. Raw materials are sourced from certified suppliers. Our Cane sugar comes from Africa, Asia, Caribbean and Pacific countries. Beet sugar from within the European Union.
Manufacturing
Our experience and knowledge is key to the manufacturing of pure sugar products. In our UK production facility we process and test hundreds of tonnes of finished formulations daily for consistency in taste, texture and appearance. We are a vital partner to industries from confectionery, baking, brewing and pharmaceuticals.
Consulting
With over 85 years experience sourcing and producing a huge range of pure sugar products, we are uniquely qualified to advise our clients on their performance and uses.
Our consultancy and supervision of plantations and supply overseas and advice at every stage of the production journey helps our clients create remarkable products.

*Belgium was the 7th EU country to remove the ban on neonicotinoid use. So far, other countries to take this measure have been Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Slovakia and Romania.
*A sharp fall in sugar prices in the EU has triggered a crisis in industries that has not only hit Tereos, the world's 2nd largest sugar ...maker, but also rivals such as Suedzucker, Nordzucker and Associated British Foods.
*India’s sugar production could fall in 2019/20 as farmers are struggling to plant cane because of a drought in two of the country’s top producing areas.
*Did you know that in Mauritius, electricity from sugar cane now accounts for 14% of the island's needs.
*EU total sugar exports for the 2017/18 season stood at 3.6mmt (Oct-Sep) with final Eurostat numbers for September showing a relatively low 188kmt compared with the rest of the season.

*Bad news for sugar production in the European Union which could drop sharply in 2019/20 as farmers consider slashing beet plantings and switching to other crops amid low global sugar prices and the Neonicotinoid ban.
*The ISO has reduced its forecast for an expected global sugar surplus for the 2018/19 season, cutting production outlooks for Brazil, India, Pakistan & the EU. Now... forecasting a global surplus of 2.17mmt in 2018/19 (Oct/Sept), down from a previous projection of a 6,75mmt.
*The European Commission's crop monitoring unit MARS reveals the sugar beet harvest has progressed well in the UK & France, but it has been delayed in many other European regions to allow crops to recover from the adverse summer conditions.
•The European Union imported 6682 tonnes of raw sugar at an average cif price of EUR677 per tonne from ACP countries in August 2018, compared with 101,168 tonnes imported at an average price of EUR436 per tonne in the same month last yr.
*Beet sowing in Andalusia, Spain only got underway in late October with an estimated 10% sown by the end of the month due to high rainfall; in normal conditions the crop would already have been drilled!
*The German Sugar Industry Association has sharply cut its sugar production forecast for 2018/19 to 4,210,714 tonnes, white value.

*The abolition of production quotas in the EU on October 1, 2017 led to a 22% increase in EU sugar production in the 2017/18 season. Total sugar output therefore was 19.5 mln tonnes, white value - 3.5 mln more than the 16.0 mln tonnes produced the year before.
*Sugar production in Mauritius in the week ending Oct 27 amounted to 15,974 tonnes, raw value, compared with 16,170 tonnes produced in the same period a year ago.
... *According to local press reports, Beet Ireland is looking for 1,000 growers to invest EUR1,000 in the revival of the country's beet industry.
*Due to poor weather, the estimate for 2018 sugar production in Mauritius is reduced to 324,000 mt from 330,000 mt, says the Mauritius Chamber of Agriculture. Sugar is Mauritius’s biggest agriculture industry.
*France - The Agriculture Ministry's unit Agreste expects sugar production to reach 5.453 mln tonnes, white value, in 2018/19, down 10.5% from 6.096 mln produced in 2017/18.
