About Rasa Sayang

Bringing the favourites of Malaysia and Singapore to London!

Rasa Sayang Description

Set in the heart of Chinatown, Rasa Sayang is the only halal restaurant in Chinatown and brings a touch of Malaysia to this celebrated corner of London.
One style of cooking our chef’s follow is known as peranakan, which combines Chinese ingredients and wok techniques with rich Malaysian spices.
The result is a menu full of tangy, aromatic dishes – every one of them as delicious as the next. And alongside our traditional favourites, we introduce new dishes every month, so there’s always something different to try.
If one is looking for a real taste of Malaysian cooking, those dishes labelled as heat zone brings in the ‘kick’ in its rich and flavourful spice and promisingly hot.
We also pride ourselves on our friendly, helpful staff, who are ready to give you a real Malaysian welcome. So pop in and see us when you’re next in town – we promise you won’t be disappointed.

Raffles Singapore Laksa

User

We are excited to announce the launch of our very own Raffles Singapore Laksa! After a couple of months of experimenting in the kitchen, we believe we have a winner. Sticking close to the traditional ones you'd find in Singapore, our Laksa is a rich seafood and coconut broth loaded with shredded fishcakes, prawns, tofu puffs, hard-boiled egg, laksa leaves and thick rice vermicelli.
Come spice up your Monday: you won't be disappointed!

Very good! I lived in Singapore for a few years and my partner is Malaysian, so we were sceptical about some of the reviews and whether it would be any good. Char Kway Teow was excellent (with an extra bit of chopped Chilli added) and Nasi Lemak was lovely too. Will definitely be back

User

Superb Menu, great choices really gets your taste buds going ! To enjoy the experience do book in advance , you will not be disappointed , I have so many favourite dishes , hard to choose but Roti Canai followed by Char Kway Chow , if you have room left all the desserts are excellent :) Having lived in Borneo, eating here brings back great memories of my weekly visit to Pasar Malam with all the lovely Malay foods - ENJOY :)

User

So surprised by recent bad reviews. I went here few times already and was never disappointed. Of course not every meal is prepared just when you order it and not all the ingredients are bought fresh on the local market at the morning but also no one is promising you Noma experience here.Staff is really busy but always smiling and friendly. If you find something niche about faded minimalistic interiors of Asian eateries you'll love this place!

User

Originally from Malaysia, live in London now. Have been going to Rasa Sayang many times for my Malaysian food fix, never disappointed. Shame to read some of the reviews here of poor service and food. I have never experienced that myself so please don't let that put you off this place.

User

Lovely food and the staff couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful. I had the deluxe mee goreng and a few other side dishes etc and it was superb. I do regularly eat malaysian cuisine as a good friend is malaysian chef. This place was almost as good! And believe me that is one hell of a compliment! I will be revisiting!

User

It reminded us of Malaysia and Singapore straight away. The food was amazing, Chicken rice ,very authentic but London prices , I hope to go back very soon.

User

I was slightly worried when I first turned up at Rasa Sayang because the place looks quite cramped, however there is additional seating downstairs. We ordered Tea Tharek to begin with followed by nasi goreng, mee goreng and another chicken satay dish. The flavours were rich and delicious and the tapioca pudding served as an ideal conclusion to.the hearty meal. Service was excellent and we didn't have to wait too long for the food to arrive. I can't wait to go back!

User

Food is great! Authentic taste and generous portions. Be prepared to wait for a table though coz it gets busy due to popularity

User

As I told a friend I really missed Malaysian food from my travels, I was recommended this place. It was very busy when we came in but luckily, we had booked and was seated almost immediately. Staff was patient with our ordering especially when we needed some vegetarian options and kindly provided suggestions. So we ordered a variety of mains and smaller side dishes, everything was on point and I was able to inhale the hainanese chicken rice once again! Overall the service was quick, you don't feel rushed like in other places, and the prices were decent. I will be back here when my cravings kick in.

User

The food is really Malaysian style and tasty. The restaurant looks very basic. If you miss Malaysian Food, that's the place to visit.

User

Recommended by our friend Cherly, we were there for our tea (dinner), last yummy meal in London. What can i say,fab menu, dishes that was served looked yummy. We had coconut rice and chicken curry, so tasty. Friendly and great service. My friend spoke in malay, it was lovely to listen even though we couldnt understand lol. Definately we will visit there again... thank

User

I've been here a few times and still enjoy it. The food does remind me of Malaysia and I think it's great that it's also halal because it means that it caters to everyone. My only issue is that the tables are so close together and it's cramped.

Finally, I will say, remember this is London. If you're Malaysian, don't expect it to be like the local Mamak stall in your hometown or even in KL. I was annoyed when I couldn't help overhear 2 Malaysian tourists complaining about how expensive it was, that they could get cheaper and better in Malaysia. Really? why come all the way to Europe to eat what you can get at home.

User

I live in Singapore and my extended family are all Malay. The food is good and service OK the restaurant is very busy and we needed a table for 6 and they moved tables to accommodate. The food was quick, hot and tasty. I had the luxury nasi lemak which was very good and included the rendang. It's London prices but that's to be expected.

User

Delicious good value food. While the restaurant might look more basic, the food is far better than a lot of the other local restaurants on Gerrard Street, China Town

User

Was in a few days ago, used to be really nice, sadly it wasnt the case this time, beef rendang was hard and chewy, singapore fried rice have no taste in it ,apart from a bit of obvious msg. To top this ,i dont feel welcome at all by judging how we were treated by the one and only waitress downstairs supposingly"service"us, no smiling,no check back, the only thing i like about her was she actually brought me a plate to share my meal with my kids(well...after she saw me scooping all my rice into my son's plate and tried to eat from the same plate with him)...good service!!! Theres so many different restaurants at China town, guess i wont be travelling here especially to have a meal anymore.

User

Really good food in china town , yes I would definitely go back again , it was my first time to this restaurant & I enjoyed the Sambal fish very much

User

Ordered the nasi lemak and roti canai with lamb curry yesterday. The rice was overcooked and mushy, and did not have any coconut milk flavor. The lamb curry was reasonably good but the roti canai was rather small in size. Overall food can at best be described as satisfactory.

User

I almost did not want to put this review down, but I feel that it is necessary to give other potential customers a true picture of this place. I am alright if a restaurant has a certain minimum order policy, which in this case is £8. What I do not like is the way it is communicated.

My brother and me ordered 2 teh tariks and spring rolls. Immediately, the waiter says "There is a minimum order of £8" in a very direct manner. Thinking that perhaps with the spring rolls, there should be sufficient amount ordered to make up the £8, we flipped through the menu again to check the price, and the waiter simply said, "Not enough". Barely a few moments later, while we were still trying to see what else we could order, the waiter said "I'll come back later" and just walked off. No apologies were given and no suggestions were offered as to what we could order. In summary, our experience was: take the menu, order a minimum of £8, and if we can't, leave.

Rasa Sayang, please note that a restaurant is nothing without its customers. It can serve the best quality food, but with poor service like what we experienced, do not be surprised if the number of customers drop. I hope you spend as much time on training your waiters to deliver good customer service as you do on your food.

User

Ethnic singaporean here. Ordered the char Kway Teow, Hainanese chicken rice and Teh c bing. Char Kway Teow was ok but it needed more salt. Hainanese chicken rice was bland and the chicken was not marinated long enough, so I had to cover it with a lot of Chili and garlic. I also had to use 3 LANGUAGES (dialect, Chinese and English) to order boneless breast meat & they still didn't get that right. The chicken pieces also looked like they were chopped with a bad attitude! The Teh c bing tasted like powdered Hong Kong milk tea. I hope that people don't think Singapore food is like this because it tastes so much better!
