About Rda Unicorn Centre

Welcome to the RDA Unicorn Centre providing riding and therapy for people with disabilities, training and supported volunteer opportunities since 1998.

Rda Unicorn Centre Description

The Centre works across the spectrum of disabilities, age range, social status and environments. Our focus is to ensure that each individual is given the chance to derive a direct therapeutic benefit and the opportunity to achieve their full potential; whether that be sitting with support astride a pony and riding down one side of the arena or competing at Paralympic dressage level.

The Unicorn Centre is a member group of the national Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), (although is autonomous in its own right as a separate, independent, registered charity) and as such shares three principal objectives;

• Developing and supporting opportunities for therapy.
• Developing and supporting opportunities for achievement.
• Enabling physical activity and enjoyment.
The Unicorn Centre gives all its riders the opportunity to reach therapeutic goals and personal ambitions, to develop life skills and often to combat social isolation. Riders are also encouraged to develop a caring attitude and to connect with our wonderful and specially trained horses and ponies, without whom the Centre could not deliver its valuable service.

The Unicorn Centre has six core values, which underpin all our activities:

• To provide a high quality service in all it does
• To value the input of people at all levels and to be positive about their achievements – whether as a rider, volunteer, learner or staff member
• To emphasise the importance of training and achievement for all riders, volunteers, learners and staff members
• To value the input of participants in deciding its future
• To be accessible to all – whether as a rider, learner or as a volunteer
• To be professionally run, communicating openly at all levels and to be financially transparent

A big well done again to all our participants who took part in the Regional Qualifier last weekend and extra well done to all those who qualified. Just a reminder that our next RDA competition (and chance to practice for the National Championships) is our Summer Show on Saturday 15 June - lots of lovely prizes and rosettes 😀 The schedule is available on our website or from the Centre office.

Congratulations to all our friends and colleagues at Bedale Riding for the Disabled. Such an honour and richly deserved. If this amazing award inspires you to volunteer with RDA, we'd love to hear from you. Call our Volunteer Co-ordinator Denise on 01642 576222 today!

Wow, have we got some great raffle prizes this year for our Grand Summer Draw! Don't miss out: they're now on sale from the Office, and it would be great if you could help us by selling some tickets too. Huge thanks to everyone who donated prizes.

We still have spaces available on Pony Care for tomorrow afternoon (1-4pm). Please give the office a call on 01642 576222 if you would like to book a place.

If you're planning some DIY this Bank Holiday and visiting the local DIY stores or builder's merchants, please could you pick up some bags of Postcrete for our drive? We have a volunteer waiting to fill up the potholes but nothing to put in them! If you could donate some bags, we'd be so grateful. Thank you.

Times for the competition on Tuesday will be posted on Horse Monkey and our website at about 3.30pm this afternoon. We are still taking entries after this time up until 10am on Tuesday morning with no late entry fees. Please give the office a call on 01642 576222 if you would like to enter. Please be aware that the rule regarding the equine flu vaccination is still in place and passports will be checked on arrival.

Lots of luck to TeamUnicorn19 as they compete tomorrow in the Countryside Challenge Regional Qualifiers at Stokesley RDA. We're hoping for lots of qualifiers to join our successful six from dressage and showjumping who've already qualified for the RDA National Championships in July!

Just a reminder for entries for next Tuesday night's unaffiliated dressage Summer Series 😀. With Monday being Bank Holiday we will be doing the times tomorrow afternoon instead but will be taking late entries until 10am on Tuesday morning - no extra charge. Hope to see you supporting this event. 😀

Many of you will have had a ride on Robocop at our 21st Birthday on National Unicorn Day. Did you know that we're fundraising to purchase a similar one (but even better) to provide additional support for our riders? Read all about it here: https://mydonate.bt.com/events/dressagesi mulator/480374
