Saturday 5th Jan 2018:
Thank you to everyone who shopped with us today or dropped off donations, we’ve had a really busy day.
Lovely to catch up... with a few different people today from Loaves & Fishes in Stockport, Shelter and the MCC Rough Sleepers Team.
Today we’ve provided two food parcels and bought another weekly bus ticket for an individual who has been sleeping rough but has been staying in a night shelter while the cold weather warning was on. This person has been volunteering with us and the bus pass will enable them to attend appointments and access the indoor Provisions for meals and showers.

Wednesday 2nd December:
Earlier today we were contacted by an individual who had nowhere to stay tonight. We were concerned because of the individuals young age, so we contacted a few people then made a referral to a homeless shelter. We were happy to hear that this individuals referral had been accepted and now has somewhere safe to stay with the support to help them get back on track.
... We would like to say a thank you to WH Frosts butchers in Chorlton Precinct for their donation of pies. These have been given out in food parcels. One of these was from a referral from another organisation who had contacted us and was able to collect it within the hour.
Although the Hub was closed today, Becky and I did outreach around Chorlton, Didsbury, Withington, Fallowfield and Hulme as Manchester City Council had triggered a Cold Weather Warning, this meant because temperatures will drop to -0 tonight emergency accommodation has opened up for anyone sleeping rough in Manchester for tonight and tomorrow.
If you have concerns, find out how to refer people at socsi.in/o4w1B

BIG CHANGE MCR:
Big Change MCR works with many of Manchester’s charities & organisations that are signed up to the Manchester Homelessness Partnership, which we’re proud to be apart of.
Last year through big Change we were able to purchase:
... • travel passes • mobile phones • phone credit • water • suncream • clothes for job interviews. And more.
Mooch from Big Change has been a massive support and has become a great friend of ours. He is always on hand for many support workers offering advice and goes above and beyond to help when he can, even taking calls late into the night. Thanks to him and everyone involved with www.bigchangemcr.com

This morning we were contacted by an individual sleeping rough in Didsbury, who said they hadn’t eaten for a couple of days. We met with them, provided food, flask of hot coffee and took their details to see what support we can offer whilst also contacting the relevant services.
This afternoon a person we’ve been supporting called into the shop for some hot food and to update us on their situation. We provided them with a weekly bus ticket so they can get to their appointmen...ts and for them to be able to access the indoor Provisions so they can get food and showers over New Year.
We also picked up a van full of clothing from Manchester South Central Foodbank, thank you to them for sharing donations with us. We wish you all the very best for the New Year ahead.

HAPPY NEW YEAR:
We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year & thank all our volunteers, trustees, everyone who donates or supports the work that we do and those that have raised funds for Reach Out to the Community.
2018 has been an amazing year for us. We’ve been overwhelmed with the support from the local community, councillors and fellow traders at a time when its needed most.

Merry Christmas:
We would like to wish EVERYONE a very Merry Christmas.
This year has been amazing, the support we’ve received throughout the year has had a massive impact on our charity work.
... Last December, Reach Out to the Community became a registered charity. In March Becky and I decided to give up our greengrocers business Elliott’s Fruit and Veg, to concentrate on our charity work.
The support we’ve had from the local community, Traders, Manchester City Council Neighbourhood Team and the local councillors has been overwhelming.
We’d like to thank each and everyone of you for all the donations, fundraisers and support because without you all we really couldn’t do what we do.
Thanks to all the charities and statutory services that work alongside us to help those experiencing homelessness and poverty.
Special thanks to all our volunteers and trustees, you are all amazing.
We hope you all have an amazing Christmas and we will see you all in 2019.
Becky, Steph and the ROC Team x
