Did you know that Blackgang Chine is celebrating its 175th birthday this year?🎉 The land of imagination began back in 1843 when land owner Alexander Dabell had the skeleton of a whale exhibited that had washed up on the shore near the Needles, setting the tone for the weird and wonderful attraction inspiring imagination that everybody loves today! #wednesdaywisdom

We're on to day 7 at Lendy Cowes Week and it's the deciding day for racing in many classes!! It may be raining but the regatta is still on! ☂️ There is still time to head to your favourite pop up shops and grab some wonderful treats and maybe one last go on the giant wheel. 😁 Tonight the Red Arrows take to the skies at 7:30pm, followed by the spectacular firework display at 9:30pm. Quick and easy to book and travel with Red Funnel, it was totally organised and stress free. I messed up my booking ( due to booking trip at 3am in morning! ) and they totally resolved it for me without moaning or charging me for it like a lot of companies do. Really friendly staff, ferry was clean and comfortable and loved dancing Jim! Thankyou

User

Lovely crossing, Nice area for us to take the dogs in, if it was raining, food available, staff loading us on ferry and on board where really nice. We arrived early and was not left to wait but put on the earlier ferry. Loved Dancing Jim. All in All a good crossing See you again in August. Bacon barns smelled delicious wish I'd have got one now. It was all I could think of until we got to Glastonbury xx

User

I've read some negative reviews about Red Funnel ferry to the lsle of Wight however after travelling on Thursday with a dog we couldn't of been happier you were able to take your dog out of the car and they had a dog lounge we're you could sit with the dog and purchase food and beverages. After visiting Dublin last year by seacat we would never do this again as the car was to hot for the dog but the dog was not allowed on deck when we viewed our concerns about leaving the dog in high temperatures in the car they said we could put the dog in a kennel which was as bad as leaving her in the car with hardly any ventilation. Hats off to Red Funnel ferries other ferries should have dog lounges I can't express how happy we were as we did not have to leave the dog in the car in extremely hot weather.

User

I usually travel to the isle of wight by Portsmouth white link but though this time to try out Red Funnel travelling from Southampton. As far as Southampton was concerned, was a nightmare so recommended to use sat nav for sure. We went to Portsmouth first for breakfast then onto Southampton, it was awful, no proper large signs to the Red Funnel terminal, roundabout by roundabout and small back roads it was not funny, never would have found it without sat nav. Didn't realise there was a toll to pay either in Southampton to get to the other side of the water :( but we did get there in time to. As far as the Red Funnel the only thing I found difficult was the amount of stairs to go up (2 sets) to the level where the lift was to take you to the top deck where people with dogs had to go. The boat and facilities were very clean helpful staff and a great outdoor area to sit with your pet, plenty of seating great views.

I am afraid to say that I would not be able to travel by Red Funnel again because of the lack of sign posts and traffic in Southampton, that has put us off. We will use white link who are good but a bit more expensive than Red Funnel of about £30.

User

I use RF frequently as a foot passenger because, despite living in Bournemouth and being closer to Lymington, I far prefer the ferries and the overall experience of RF and it's worth going to Southampton for. The staff are lovely - ticket office and on-board - and the catering is excellent with its hot food section and several drinks outlets. Yesterday I paid the £10 supplement and used the Signature Lounge. It was wonderful: quiet, cool and with lovely free snacks and a newspaper. I returned RedJet - and look forward to seeing their new vessel, which I gather has been recently built.

User

I couldn’t fault the staff at Southampton red funnel customers desk they was amazing efficient dealt with my tickets very efficiently friendly happy service but as East Cowes side she couldn’t even do her job properly I had a ticket stating I was entitled to red funnel journey and train but yet she still told me to pay to travel on red funnel and to sought it out in Southampton maybe she need to undertake customer service skills test again and learn how to use a computers as it was dealt with in Southampton in seconds. Many thanks to the staff in Southampton amazing.

Dear Red Funnel

We would like to thank your staff Member Elaine at Customer services for her support yesterday, 5pm ferry from Southampton bringing us home to the island. Our Granddaughter who is just 5 years old got stung by a wasp on deck, within minutes she had an allergic reaction, Elaine kept me calm whilst helping to look after August, she was kind enough to get vehicles moved enabling us to be the third car off the ferry to get to St Mary's Hospital. We have just arrived home having spent 3 hours in the hospital whilst August was being treated for a sever allergic reaction, she has never been stung before so no one would ever have known she had an allergy, one, we clearly need to be prepared for in the future. Our Message to Elaine is a massive thank you, the Teddy Captain Ted sat through the whole event holding August's Hand giving her support. You were brilliant and kind beyond the call of your duty so again many thanks from August and her Grandma and Granddad and Buddy the dog.

User

Customer service at it’s very best. I stupidly left an iPad on the car ferry during probably one of the busiest periods of travel due to the Isle of Wight festival! Not sure whether it was a member of staff or public that handed it in but thank you so much for your honesty and kindness. A huge thank you to Red Funnel Contact Centre Manager Tegan Prewett for her super efficient correspondence and help with locating and returning my iPad to me and of course the person that handed it in

User

Booked myself in my own car and husband in his motorhome to go to IoW for the first time of visiting the island

Easy booking on line and was sent SMS reminders and then the day before we sailed.

Arrived early, MH was asked to come back as there was no room on the earlier ferry. I was asked if I wanted to sail an hour early but declined so I could go with my husband but nice to have been asked

When we got back later, everything went smoothly for us both. Sail across was smooth enough. Plenty of seats to sit and relax for a bit. All in all, pleased with Red Funnel

User

Arrived early at southampton as was travelling from Sutton in Ashfield (never risk arriving late), and was told to come back later as there was no available places on the earlier ferry. The customer service was excellent, clear and informative.

I was booked to come back on the friday morning ferry at 0930, but having seen the weather forecast , I didnt fancy travelling home on a rather sunny friday on the motorway (bound to be a long jam or accident) so at 1620 on the thursday I phoned the helpdesk to see if I could get on a ferry that evening. The customer service was again excellent, I was given the sailing times and availability and switched to the 1930 crossing. Thank your team, I work in retail and know from experience that we don't get praise very often when everything runs smoothly

User

Arrived early (difficult to judge traffic onM25/M3!) and was ushered straight on the ferry. Staff could not have been more helpful pleasant. Only had a coffee in the cafeteria, but the food looked reasonable and fairly priced. The staff again excellent. Lounge and viewing areas clean, ditto loos. Return journey similar. Very pleased to recommend. Thank you for making our day even more pleasurable.

User

Brilliant experience. The only thing I was annoyed about, was I tried to get an earlier ferry from cowes to Southampton and the girl on the gate told me the ferry was full, but to come at 11:30am on standby. She was very polite. I arrived back at the gate at 11:22am and their was a different girl on the gate who was quite arsy telling me, it's not 11:30am yet, come back then. I drive round for a few minutes and was let in, only to find three cars in front of me who'd obviously been let in before 11:30am. Jobs worth. If you're going to be rude to customers, try a different job.

User

Been via Red Funnel many times and would only complain if I needed to.Complain is a tough word when you really just want to make comment. But I found it hard telling my 18 month old he could not eat the food we provided because the staff could not microwave it for one minute.I know firms have to protect themselves from accusation but why can't I sign to wave fault?

The other is that I may want to listen to emergency announcements but people (probably the first to panic) talk all the way through it.....PLEASE ask people to NOT TALK as others may want to listen to this. Not just request to listen...keep their gobs shut for 2 minutes in respect.

User

As always our experience of Red Funnel car ferries (on Sunday 17/6/18) was very good.

I know other passengers have commented on the inaudible safety announcement in the Red Eagle passenger lounge, and have noted RF's response that they are looking in to it but just to say it was the same yesterday. I know some passengers don't pay the attention they should to this important announcement but it really should be clearly audible in all areas.

User

Voyage from Southampton spot on cant fault it the return journey was not good at all my fiancé is in a wheelchair so we had priority boarding we ended up near the front of the boat which was ok but could not get to the lift. The chief boarder seemed to say it was our fault but I had no idea that I had to tell staff or get special permission to park due to my other half being in a wheel chair, overheard the boarder blaming us as the traffic coming on had to be stopped quite unprofessional and upset my fiancé. It was all sorted in the end but left a slight sour taste in our mouth. Is there any way online booking could have a tick box for if you are a wheelchair user?

User

Disappointing attitude towards supporting us with our autistic son on today's crossing. Couldn't find anywhere to sit away from crying babies so asked for help to find somewhere quieter. The signature lounge wanted an extra £10 to sit in there despite our situation, we've paid £140 for a return crossing already. Please consider a 'Signature Area' for those with additional needs. I know your busy, I know it's hard to accommodate all requests and consider some autism awareness training for your staff please. Sat in corridor by the loo.

User

We always use Wightlink but on our return from the festival this year we used Red Funnel. We got to the ferry terminal at East Cowes early and were charged an extra fee to get on an earlier ferry which was half empty. Bought a cup of tea, fancied another, went back and the cafe was closed?! Why do you increase your fares in school holidays when the Island relies on the tourist trade? Sorry, we will be using Wightlink in the future and with the help of a certain supermarket's vouchers the crossings are greatly reduced or no fare at all. We used to live on the Island but moved back because of the horrendous ferry fares, felt like a prisoner living there because of it. The ferry companies are crippling the Isle of Wight and I feel very sorry for people who need to get off the Island due to illness or who are trying to run a business there.

User

The service provided by Red Funnel Ferries was extremely poor!

I had arranged a holiday for our Live at Home Scheme, all Older People in their 70's - 90's boarding the ferry in an accessible coach which needed to be parked next to the lifts for access to the main seating area.

Unfortunately both lifts on the ferry were broken and had been for several days but no one though it necessary to let us know this information before boarding!

Two of our members had to stay on the coach for the whole journey and the others, some of whom have a number of health issues had to struggle up three flights of stairs!

I had a conversation with Customer Services who said that they would refund our costs but subsequently have received another email to say after speaking to their manager this has been refused and there will be not now be any reimbursement!.

Absolutely Disgusting!!

User

Paid for priority loading which includes 20% discount on food and drink on board. If you buy a meal you get a discount and they take your discount card away, so if you want to buy a coffee for the onwards journey there is no discount. Unless you prepay when you buy your meal for a coffee or cold drink, but you cannot change your mind because that’s the rule. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth that you can’t wash away with a discounted drink.

Disappointing attitude towards supporting us with our autistic son on today's crossing. Couldn't find anywhere to sit away from crying babies so asked for help to find somewhere quieter. The signature lounge wanted an extra £10 to sit in there despite our situation, we've paid £140 for a return crossing already. Please consider a 'Signature Area' for those with additional needs. I know your busy, I know it's hard to accommodate all requests and consider some autism awareness training for your staff please. Sat in corridor by the loo.
