Red Squirrel Wine

In town for a couple of days is @sam_coverdale_ winemaker, founder, owner of @polperrowines in the Mornington Peninsula.
Like this astounding Mill Hill Single Vineyard Pinot Noir, from the highest altitude vineyard on the peninsula (270m), a cool but north-facing 2-hectare block of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and a little Pinot Gris. Planted on red clay over granite.
This wine and others by Sam, including the Even Keel range of cooler climate wines from around Australia, arriving this August. рҹҮҰрҹҮә

Over a long, convivial lunch today at @chez.bruce we enjoyed that rare pleasure: not just one but two vintages of the peerless U Baccan Pigato by Azienda Agricola Bruna in Ranzo, Liguria. Organically farmed, naturally fermented, in winemaker RobertoвҖҷs words, вҖңanarchicвҖқ.
No one hits the same heights with Pigato, a local grape that patriarch Ricardo Bruna rescued in the 1970s at a time when others in Liguria were abandoning this fickle close relation of Vermentino.
The vintages... were 2013 and 2015. No two instalments of U Baccan (вҖңthe bossвҖқ in the Ligurian dialect) are alike. The older was a tricky vintage, but itвҖҷs manifested in a supremely herbal, exotically spiced Pigato, bursting with ginger and coriander. Incredible later on with an oozing, soft goatвҖҷs cheese.
The younger 2015 offered up the warmth of the vintage, with broad, voluptuous fruit and a pillowy texture alongside a striking acidity that suggested it was far more youthful than four years old.
U Baccan Pigato lasts an age and never fails to amaze. If youвҖҷre fortunate enough to have a bottle or two, cherish them. Total production is rarely more than 500-1,000 bottles. We get about 4 cases each year into the UK.

Chenin Blanc grapes forming in the @winerie_parisienne vineyard ahead of the first proper vintage in Paris in generations, and we canвҖҷt wait to see how it all turns out. As well as Chenin Blanc, the guys have planted Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and possible plans for Riesling, Sauvignon Gris and other quirky alternatives. @ Davron

Winemaker Julien Brustis in the vines today, the first proper vineyard planted in ГҺle-de-France in generations, gearing up for the first harvest later this year. Despite a bit of frost damage recently everything is looking healthy, so keep fingers and toes crossed!
