Reed'S School

Reed's School is a successful HMC independent school for boys aged 11-18 & girls aged 16-18. Set in 40 acres of countryside in Cobham, Surrey it was founded in 1813 by Rev Andrew Reed and continues to support disadvantaged children through its Foundation.

Reed’s School was founded in 1813 by the Rev Dr Andrew Reed; sited in the East End of London, it was originally known as the East London Orphan Asylum. Its raison d’être was primarily to care for and provide an education for destitute orphans. The School later moved to Watford, and in 1946 to its present site in Cobham, Surrey after the return of pupils evacuated to Totnes during World War II. Reed’s School was then a boarding Foundation School where all two hundred plus pupils were funded on bursaries with support mainly provided by companies within the City of London. After 1958, for financial reasons, and to enable the work of the Foundation to continue, the School expanded to take fee paying boarders and - in the mid 1960s - day pupils as well. This history has provided the roots from which Reed’s School stems.
Today, Reed’s School is a successful independent day and boarding school, providing an education for 700 boys between 11 & 18, with girls in the 6th Form. For the third year we have remained in the Top 20 of Independent Boys’ Boarding Schools as published by best-schools. co. uk and have moved into the top 200 Independent Schools in the National League tables. As well as offering a broad and appealing curriculum in all areas (academic, cultural and sporting) and developing new initiatives such as FutureTech and our academies, we remain committed to guaranteeing that at least 10% of our School population are Foundation students. Through our partnership Forums schools, we continue enriching the lives of many disadvantaged children: sustaining the legacy of Andrew Reed for the next 200 years.
