On 16th October the Women’s Service from Refugee Resource, in collaboration with Oxford University Museums, served a free, freshly cooked lunch at the Museum of Natural History for vulnerable and isolated communities in Oxfordshire. Guests were adults with learning disabilities, older people and others from Oxfordshire Mind, Young Dementia UK and Oxford Association for the Blind.
The lunch was cooked using recipes from the Women’s Service own recipe book - ‘Come to Our Table...’. The women produced this recipe book to include their favourite food and drinks from their home countries last year, and this year they wanted to build on this by cooking and sharing their food with other people in the local community.
The aim of the gathering at the museum was to bring Oxford’s diverse communities together, build bridges and to develop connections with other groups in Oxford, to reduce isolation and exclusion. This is the third of a series of four cafés, which Refugee Resource and Oxford City of Sanctuary will be running over 2018.
One of the Women’s Service members, Lubna Mahmood expressed how rewarding it feels to be able to cook and serve other people in our community. She said: “We cooked the meals from the bottom of our hearts”.

Having been rather quite over the last month or two, we wanted to share a few photos of what we have been up to.... KAMA Oxford had their fantastic launch event back in July. Some of our women's group members were involved in sharing their skills through cooking & sewing demonstrations. Find out more about upcoming KAMA skill sharing events on their Facebook page: KAMA Oxford

Fatou, our Women's Service Coordinator, talking about the women we work with at Refugee Resource: 'ordinary women who have done extraordinary things'.
This was part of a panel discussion about the experiences of women at Somerville College in June 2018, with Shaista Aziz, Peymana Assad & Catherine Briddick from Refugee Studies Centre and our own Fatou & Dilber.
