Become an Eco Superhero and make fun things from recycled materials such as crusader costumes and bug hotels. You'll also become a scientist and discover what compost is made of and go hunting for bugs and plants. Great fun for the whole family whatever the weather.

In its first year at Hyde Hall, expect to find inspiring displays of beautiful and unusual early spring-flowering bulbs and plants to buy from some of the country's top growers and nurseries.

After a frosty start, we now have blue skies and sunshine making it a great day for a garden stroll!

This is a beautiful estate well maintained and very well presented. We took the grandkids and they loved the park and the ornamental pond with all the little fishes so close to the edge.

I have to say that I became a member a couple of weeks ago and wondered if I would gain anything by being a member, well my dream came true, we went on a bank holiday Monday and the queues were horrendous... then all of a sudden this little voice called out any members here to which I put my hand up and all of a sudden from being about 50th in the queue we were 2nd..... spot the happy chappy. Honestly even without that benefit it is well worth the visit.

User

Must be eight years since I was last here with Mitchell my grandson he loved it then,as I was taken aback today by the changes I love it all over again.

The weather helped today as warm and sunny but the floral display was stunning and the global veg garden was an amazing treat oh and lunch was brill!

Only one critic The roses needed dead headed as were all past...sorry!

User

It will be fun watching this place grow and grow over the years. Very nice new restaurant when I visited with a great selection of food on offer.

User

It was glorious my sunny & unbelievably hot. And there were loads of people there but it didn’t feel crowded we had a very elderly person with our group and although there were off path routes from the top to the bottom. Suggestion in this really hot weather not everybody brings their own water supply and maybe dotted around maybe shaded areas could be utilised to provide a water stop or a place to sit/rest.

Where all the tents were showcasing plants to sell there Were occasional collections of table/chairs but not enough shade

User

Had a lovely day today. Staff extremely helpful and polite. We had lunch in the cafe by the shop; staff extremely helpful and nice. I had a jacket butternut squash with a chilli topping; soooooo nice, we were all very happy with our food and staff. Gardens are lovely and staff happy to chat and answer questions. Lots of places to have a rest. Improvements are going on, but happy to take a very small detour.

Over all, very pleasant day!

User

First time visiting Hyde Hall Gardens today and really enjoyed the Rose garden, also had an amazing Sunday roast there! Never expected such a great roast but was completely surprised, best I’ve had in along time!

User

Lovely new buildings on the hilltop but new restaurant very disappointing. Very long queue and only two staff serving. Most of the cakes were uncovered, flies buzzing around and people sneezing close to this food. Two ducks walked in and caused a commotion trying to escape - customers had to catch them and carry them across the restaurant because the nearest door was locked. Hyde Hall is still a wonderful place to visit but best to get your meal in the lower restaurant.

User

A very hot day but the grandsons loved the dinosaur hunt - they took their own dinosaurs. The story teller was super and all the children were enthralled. Many thanks also to the male member of staff who helped me locate my 3 yr old who had gone walkabout in the gift shop.

User

We just travelled to go to the Hyde Hall craft fayre. Very disappointing, hardly any stalls to look at. We've been before and estimate there were at least 3 to 4 times as many stalls previously. I don't know what s happened but it wasn't worth the trip.

User

Today was the first day we have been to Hyde hall and after having heard lots about it I think we had high expectations and actually we were really disappointed. We decided to get lunch first in the cafe by the shop. Staff were rude. I ordered the three cheese ploughman’s but had to return it as the bread was stale. My partner ordered a coffee which we weren’t given, when he realised and went back to get it he was told rudely it had been throw away because he had left it on the side. The gardens are beautiful and the kids really enjoyed the dinosaur trail. We possibly would visit again when they have their special kids events like they did today but there’s no way we would eat in the cafe. Also the prices of toys for the kids in the shop are extortionate!! Quite disappointed really.

User

The gardens are always very inspiring but Hyde Hall let themselves down with the cafe on Sunday. It was pretty busy as the sun was actually out, so there were quite a lot of people eating & drinking in the Cafe. Firstly, some people were 'saving' empty tables as they joined the long queue, so there was a lack of free tables when others had already paid for their food & drink and secondly, having been advised, by conveniently placed signs, that it is a 'self-cleaning' restaurant, there was nowhere to put the trays once we were finished. All the tray trolleys were full to the brim. So instead, dirty trays were being left on the tables and anywhere else people had found to leave them. Considering the prices being charged, we felt it was a real let down

User

Sadly the worst experience yet. I have visited Hyde hall many times and with all the building work and alterations it has been steadily getting worse. With path closures it doesn't make for an easy or pleasant walk round. I was sad when the wisteria arches disappeared and today I was looking forward to a lunch in the courtyard by the beautiful barn only to find it is no longer in use. The new building had long queues of people, most of the food was sold out, no usual Sunday roast menu and the sandwiches were disappearing fast so we decided not to stay and returned to the lower cafe for a sandwich.

As much as I love Hyde Hall and the only garden that I use my RHS card at I don't feel the usual eagerness to return.

I appreciate that there is a lot of good educational work planned for the next generation of gardeners and possibly its a victim of its own success .

User

Why have you shut the barn. This was a wonderful place to have tea coffee etc, with loads of atmosphere. Now you have this ghastly new cafe, which could be any place anywhere.

The Rose weekend was a bit of a non event. We went today and it was not a patch on last year.

And finally why is that beautiful new greenhouse dedicated to a few miserable vegetables? why not make it a tropical house with loads of interesting plants.

I think you have lost the plot.

User

My wife and I go to Hyde Hall on a very regular basis. Unfortunately last Friday's visit was appalling. What on earth has happened to the staff in the restaurant so rude and the menu was shocking is this the standard that the RHS have decided that we (the members should have)

I can put up with the redevelopment but it would appear that we are seen as cash crop. Will still visit the gardens but not the restaurant nor would I recommend it to anyone else

User

It saddens me to leave a negative review as the gardens at Hyde Hall are just beautiful but today we attended for the mud and machines event and were extremely disappointed. There were two (small) tractors out, which I guess makes it multiple vehicles but should hardly have been advertised as a machines event just for that. Also disappointing to have to pay extra for the arts and crafts. Overall highly disappointing and overpriced for the event advertised. I would have just waited to visit in the Spring when the gardens are fabulous and just skip so called events.

User

I attended for the first time today as they had a Autumn Food Festival on this weekend. It was to say an disappointment and not worth the admission fee to enter the gardens to attend. Though I understand the main attraction is the gardens my main focus was to go for the festival.

The festival consisted of one tent with around 14 small tables, a tent for demonstrations, a tent for children and a few caterers as well. There was nothing that I would say was amazing or even on the good side of mediocre.

Finally the demonstration tent also charged £10 to watch a person cook a stir fry.

Overall if you want to visit for the gardens then great, but if it's for a specific event then I wouldn't waste the money on the admission price to the gardens.

User

Have visited as an RHS member every 3 or 4 months for the past 10 years. Gardens still stunning but what has happened to the Hill Top restaurant. Appalling staff, hygiene levels questionable, food dreadful and totally lacking in character or any sense of peace. Feels awfully like a money making machine. Not sure how I feel about revisiting at the moment.

User

Generally it's a lovely place to visit when there are no events on otherwise it's horrendous to park etc IMO.

The top restaurant is a lovely environment in as much as the age of the building etc. Would spend more in here if the prices were more realistic and not so greedy. Your cakes are well over the top and so are the coffee prices. However, the food I have mortgaged for was very tasty.

Bearing in mind RHS ought to be encouraging repeat local business? Maybe not? I guess someone has to pay for the new learning centre being constructed currently.

User

We love coming to hyde hall for the gardens but so far whenever there is a event on and we attend it’s a disappointment!!! We came this week for the mud and tractors, the only mud that was there were the puddles from the rain the night before so if it had been a sunny week all week not sure what you would of done, and there were only 2 little tractors to sit on, no staff around the tractors so it was literally all the older children sitting on them for ages and no chance for the little ones to go on them. Yet again an advertised event but a disappointment when you get there. Thankfully we have a membership card so didn’t have to pay but It’s shame for the people that did have to pay.
