Hi there, how much would you like a business that* provides enough money for you to have ‘whatever you want'* enables you to choose when you work, if at all, so you can do things ‘whenever you want'* could be sold, for what you want, when you want, to have a true ‘whatever whenever' lifestyle?Over the last 12 years I've worked with many hundreds of Business Owners who wanted to* increase their profits* reduce their business's reliance upon them or* increase their ‘multiple' of earnings---And I often find that Owners approach the building of their business in that order1. At the beginning, they invest all their time into building profit2. Once they have enough profit [or are too fatigued to continue chasing it] they will start to reduce the hours they ‘have' to work3. Yet, only when thoughts of retirement begin to loom do they start to improve their ‘multiple' – and that's usually because they've found that their business is not worth what they need to fund their retirement and /or simply not sellableHow does that reflect your ownership timeline? Where are you on it today?---I believe that Owners, regardless of whether they are new or veterans, regardless of whether they want to retire now or in a few decades time, are best served by building their multiple alongside building their profits. And, I believe that there is a huge time benefit to that. A purchaser does not want the original owner around after they have bought, therefore, they will pay much less for a business that is still reliant on the original owner and will pay much more for one that isn't. Whatever profit you reinvest (into training, recruitment, systems, technology etc), that reduces your business's reliance on you, can be recouped many times over in the corresponding increase in your multiple. You work significantly less yet your business is worth significantly more – it's a no brainer!
