Crab linguine with parsley and chilli is always popular when it's on our menu! Simple to cook; but delivers on many levels, this classic dish is greater than the sum of its simple parts. Get the recipe to try it yourself at home here: https://goo.gl/kVcNcH

We've travelled from Australia and had the most wonderful experience. The staff were so polite and attentive and took an interest in us. They took time for a conversation before service became busy. The service was prompt and friendly, and the food amazing. We loved it so much we have booked lunch for Saturday 12th May ( we had dinner tonight 10th May). Typical Rick Stein passion shines through the kitchen and service. Can't wait for Saturday lunch !!!

We went for a retirement meal donated by friends and had a wonderful experience.

Lovely window seats with a view of the harbour.

The food was really fresh and prepared and served beautifully by warm friendly staff who made us feel very welcome.

Totally enjoyable experience and a night for the memory banks.

Chatted to one of the chefs on the way out and he gave me some great tips so thankyou.

We received a gift card at xmas for a meal for me and my parents, my starter was gorgeous and a good size for me as I’m not a massive eater. The steak cut like butter it was by far the best steak I’ve had in a very long time! (Anyone who knows me knows I like my steak). I wouldn’t normally try a restaurant like this as I would have thought it to be overpriced.

However the prices are not bad and I will definitely be returning here when I fancy a treat.

The staff were very accommodating and friendly which always makes an evening better, thank you

Warm welcome, lovely ambience for dining as a family or a couple. Food and wine, a standard of excellence. Consistently good food and service from a company that simply knows how deliver!

User

Thanks to all the lovely staff at Rick Steins Porthleven for a delicious meal and fantastic service yesterday 9 th May. Special thanks to the 3 ladies serving and waiting who were lovely to chat to and took an interest in our holiday and where we were from. The meal was a tiny bit late but they offered us complimentary coffee on the house and the meal was definitely worth the wait. Delicious food and great service. Will be back again.

User

Superb all around! Great food, wine and service. We came on 25.07.18 at 8pm and sat outside upstairs.. The lady who served us was quite superb, knowledgeable and helpful, my wife had lobster and was a little concerned about the ‘tools’ but this lady put her at her ease . We are both very happy and it was lovely to have a relaxing meal, we were with you for a couple of hours and at no point did we feel rushed or did we feel that the staff were dragging their feet, we enjoy taking our time over excellent food. Thank you to everyone and especially that one particular lady whos name we didn’t catch I’m afraid.

User

Really enjoyed the meal at RS Porthleven, from the Moules to the Indonesian fish curry it was excellent. We were a party of 6 and everyone really enjoyed the 3 course dinner. The Hake on a bed of mash was gorgeous and the wines were reasonably priced.

The service was excellent and the waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful.

User

Lovely meal with a fab view. I had the salt & pepper prawns (delicious) followed by the Indonesian fish curry (incredible). Thoroughly recommend plus they have a couple of dog friendly tables.

User

Excellent food and friendly staff, Claudia is exceptional, we ordered a bottle of prosecco and a pint of lager with a gentleman, Claudia bought over the drinks but a carafe of white wine instead of prosecco, she realised the error by bar staff and could not apologise enough, we ended up keeping the wine which was delicious, highly recommend the whole lobster, very relaxing & enjoyable evening with great views of the harbour.

User

Excellent customer service, especially from Oliver and our waitress. Food was delicious. The cod in the fish and chips was amazing. A lovely lunch. Thank you.

User

Difficult to go for roast beef whilst overlooking the harbour, however it is Sunday! Cooked to perfection, pink in the middle, with an abundance of multi coloured veg, including braised red cabbage and puréed carrots. Yorkshire pudding done to perfection. If I’m being a tad picky, I found the roasties a little too seasoned, but smothered in gravy they were very tasty. And talking of gravy - best gravy EVER. Whoever made that, I would marry you! Either side of this sumptuous Sunday lunch a verdant spinach soup with poached egg, and a chocolate pave with peanut crumb and salted caramel ice cream. Sundays were made for this. Thank you to Rick Stein and all your lovely staff. We’ll be back mid week for the seafood.

Can’t thank Steve and the team enough for their support and warmth over the weekend during the Porthleven Food Festival.

My band Windslide set up outside the restaurant to do some busking and were unsure what reaction we’d get but Steve and his staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and generous. We’re genuinely bowled over.

In addition the food was outstanding and the service second to none. Add to that a beautiful restaurant and stunning location and you have all the ingredients for a wonderful dining experience.

Can’t recommend the place highly enough.

7 of us went for a charity lunch yesterday & were impressed with the food, arrentive service & decor. We are familiar with Rick Stein Falmouth & St Petroc’s Bistro in Padstow & this one did not disappoint. We hope to come again to a charity lunch or Christmas lunch.

Had a lovely meal last night at Rick Stein Porthleven, the staff were great, just so relaxed. There was a negative and that was the salmon fish cakes didn’t have enough salmon in them, the fish was delicious and desserts were sunning, my daughter had a second one, will definitely go back there.

User

In a nutshell - disappointing. A 10 minute wait to have our order taken and another 25 before any food arrived in a restaurant that was less than half full. The fish was pretty ordinary with floppy batter and the chips were bordering on being raw. The wines were superb however and the staff were friendly. We've been long time fans of Rick but based on this experience we won't be hurrying back.

We arrived at 5:15pm and asked for a table. It was over 20 minutes later that we had to ask to place an order as or young boys were already starving. Starters arrived quickly but then plates were left for over 25 minutes after we had finished. Our eldest son didn’t want dinner so had had nothing at this point. We waited another 30 minutes before asking a waiter where our food was. He said he would check but never came back to give us any information. When the main course finally arrived, it was an hour and a half after walking through the door. We had only ordered fish and chips and a fish curry (the food was great). Already past our sons’ bedtimes, we asked them to expedite the dessert and bring the bill at the same time. The bill arrived but then no one came to take payment in the 15 minutes we waited. By this time our children were exhausted and very irritable. We had to take them out of the restaurant whilst my wife went to find someone to take a payment. We eventually escaped the shambolic place at 7:30pm. We do not plan to return. At no point did anyone ask how our food was, ask if we wanted drinks or seem to care that we were there. A great shame as we ate there last year too and it was great.

User

We were really excited about dining here but it was a total disaster. In short the food was lovely but the service was really disappointing. The waiters were clumsy and inexperienced, one of which dropped our drinks, soaking me and the entire contents of my handbag and another was complaining about missing the football.

The food was delicious and beautifully presented but when the bill came we’d been overcharged - adding insult to injury!

Having soaked me in wine at the start of the meal you’d think they’d ensure everything was perfect but not so on this occasion.

This should have been a fantastic experience, as the restaurant is set in the most beautiful location with fantastic views but the service was a major let down and we left feeling thoroughly disappointed.

We are big fans of Rick Steins establishments and promised our son as a treat to take him there on our family trip to Cornwall Sennen Cove. This was the nearest so we booked our table on 23 May 6.00pm and were the first ones there. Staff were friendly and took our drinks order then took what seemed an age to take our food order. We waited about an hour for starters to arrive and then again a long wait for the main. My husband and I had the Indonesian curry but as it was a bit spicey and rich I did not eat all of mine but husband ate his. Later that evening my tummy was upset and husband was ill for 24 hours and had to go to bed. I phoned the restaurant on 24th to advise what happened and spoke to one of the chefs who was very concerned promised to pass message to Steve the AFP Person who would call me back. He also said that food preps would be double checked to see what happened. No one phoned me back. Needless to say this is hugely disappointing because it is RS but also bad customer service that no one has addressed this. Hence my review now. We won’t be going back.

Unfortunately I can not leave a review on the food or service as we never got a chance..... My partner and I witnessed what can only be described as a Wednesday matinee. As we were looking at the menu board outside we decided to book a table for later in the week before returning home however what we observed was enough to turn us away!!!

The profanities that could be heard from the open kitchen was parallel to that of a high school playground. This seemed to be coming from one fair haired individual whom had just come into the building, a young lady looked very uncomfortable with the transaction taking place, despite not knowing what the exchange was regarding it surely isn't in a public forum!!!

First impressions are lasting and we will not be returning to attempt to book let alone sit in a circus for a meal.
