About Rick Stein'S Fish & Chips

Stein’s Fish & Chips boasts both a restaurant and takeaway, located in Padstow on the beautiful North Cornwall coast overlooking the Camel Estuary.

Rick Stein'S Fish & Chips Description

I've always wanted a fish and chip shop, somewhere you can wander in, choose you fish and wait while it cooks. We have a fish and chip shop in Padstow and in 2009 opened one in Falmouth which is my other favourite seaside town in Cornwall, situated on the south coast.

You'll find a menu of cod and haddock together with a large range of local fish like hake, monkfish, John Dory and bass in batter and deep fried in beef dripping to make it really crisp. We serve homemade chips, mushy peas, curry sauce and our mayonnaise-based tartare sauce along with some nice wines and good beer. Rick Stein

Tempura oysters with lime, soy and sesame dressing. Simply the best 👌🏻

Three months to go until Padstow Christmas Festival...

Who's for a takeaway tonight? It is fish Friday after all...

User

Come rain or shine, there will always be something special about eating fish and chips by the coast. Have you stopped by this summer?

Wish you were spending the bank holiday weekend here?

Tuesday morning live from Padstow...

Nothing beats fresh squid and garlic mayo by the seaside.

Making a very welcome return to menu as a starter, grilled scallops with a soy and sesame dressing. A lovely little treat on their own, or equally with another of our starters like Cornish squid with aioli.

User

We love battered fish with our chips, of course, but sometimes in the summer a simple piece of grilled cod, plaice or haddock really hits the mark. Do you ever opt for grilled over battered?

Jack Stein’s next book signing next door at our deli is on Thursday between 2-3pm. Stop by to grab a personally signed copy of his new book, World on a Plate. We hope to see you there.

Whether your mini Stein favours cod bites, scampi or goujons, they can enjoy them all with chips for £6.95. View our menu here: https://goo.gl/R11Tqd

Special views from National Trust Trevose Head last night. Cornwall at its very best 👌🏻

If you had to choose one, which of these would you have for lunch?

There's more to Padstow than the harbour... Why not:
- Take the ferry over to Rock to explore Daymer Bay and the famous St Enodoc church - Grab takeaway fish and chips and wander up to War Memorial to enjoy it with the best views over the Camel Estuary - Play minigolf at Greens of Padstow & Padstow Mini Golf. ... - Hire a bike to head along the Camel Trail - it's 5.5miles to Wadebridge. But of course you don't have to pedal that far if you don't want to. - If you're feeling energetic, try the Padstow Trevone circular walk, which takes in the most beautful sites, including Stepper Point.
What else would you recommend doing on a day out in Padstow?

The service was on point and the food was just as good. Fresh food and cooked to perfection and add in good service and a great location greay evening. Big thanks to the staff for clearing up my spilt beer LoL

User

The manager and staff were very friendly and very helpful. The food and drink were what you would expect from a fine dining establishment. We didn’t feel rushed even though it was a bank holiday Sunday and the que had started forming. Well done to all those involved at back and front of house.

User

Queued for an hour. Well worth it. Great crispy batter, nicely cooked cod and excellent chips. The mushy peas really nice too!

User

We really enjoyed our lunch in Padstow yesterday, great food and a luscious glass of house white to wash it down.

There was just one niggly thing that I came very close to having a good whinge about and thinking back on it, I wish I had.

Our party of three were sat on a bench very close to the entrance. Outside was the area for hopeful diners to stand and queue, but one family had decided to try to gain an advantage and to stand inside the open doors and to wait there.

This meant that they were standing right over me, I could've reached out and touched them. They were so close that they could've easily helped themselves to one of my chips if they'd wanted to! In reality the staff ought to have taken a grip of the situation and asked them to wait in line outside with everyone else.

I'm sorry, but you did ask how we got on didn't you? Lunch was great, but your staff ought to have spotted this and dealt with it. I guess that, like me, they didn't have the courage to complain.....

Review is a bit late as we visited at the beginning of June.

Fish and chips were delicious and good service by staff

What let it down was the only toilet on the premises for use by all customers. Floor was dirty especially around the urinal and toilet bowl. Toilet paper was scattered all over the floor. Sink needed cleaning too

Certainly not the standard I would have expected in a Rick Stein cafe

User

I really enjoyed my food but my partner was less than happy with the quality. The peas were barely warm, they had no bread rolls & forgot his tartar sauce. The thing I was most disappointed with was the service. It took over 40 mins from sitting down to getting our food which I think is really poor. I've been a few times over the years when visiting Padstow but this the worst it's been. Chip Ahoy at the back of the harbour is much better both from quality & value for money. Won't bother again.

User

I have wanted to visit one of the Rick Stein locations in Padstow for many years. Very much enjoyed the Winchester restaurant but was disappointed with the Fish & Chip restaurant in Padstow. For fish and chips it’s pricey but I cannot deny the food was good however ... the service was shocking. The young lad that delivered the food seemed to think it was acceptable to throw the food down on the tables. I am not kidding when I say throw. Rather than lean down and place anything on the table everything was tossed on the table like an old, read newspaper.

I think it’s easy at a certain level of success for the drive to ever improve and impress to wain. There was no doubt a queue at the door and a full restaurant but I’m not sure that’s justification enough to allow standards of service to be so poor?

Honestly I have had better service at a greasy spoon truck stop on an industrial estate in Bristol and that kinda makes me sad. Rick Stein was always the one “celebrity” chef that I could watch cook on TV and feel hungry even if I had just eaten. Now I just feel disappointed.

User

Fish and chips were nice, lack of attention to detail....

My husband and I were here for our 21wedding anniversary, waited a good while to get served as the waiter was serving folk as he seen them waiting, no who was first seated.

One fish had no lemon, only 1 tarter sauce (2 were ordered)

A wee bit disappointed really from a “top” chef fish restaurant.....

User

Edible, but not great, and definitely downhill from previous years. Fish was fine but the chips seemed like they’d been kept warm for a while before being served. Not the standard expected from a well known chef.

User

Disappointing really. My chips were horrid, the tartare sauce was bland , the scampi was nice which is why I am giving a 3 otherwise it would be a 2 and My hubby said his mushy chips were the only thing he really enjoyed.

Shame really as the name is big but wouldn’t recommend it

User

£38 for 3 fish and chips, peas, curry and 3 drinks, not nice at all, we threw away £25 worth in the bin. Coke was nice though!!

User

Way too expensive for a very basic British staple. It's easy to get seduced by the notion of 'one must whilst in Padstow' and like me many will be. But, to be brutally honest it's not really worth the added expense #surely_Rick_is_rich_enough ££££

User

Watched and loved rick stein over the years so on holiday we all planned a day out to Padstow for a visit and some great fish and chips. There where 7 of us (6 adults 1 child) now I know that the prices are there in front of you on the menu but ....

the bill was £148 and change !

Yes we had starters ( it was only chip shop seating/ cafe) with soft drinks and 2 beers but it did not reflect good value I'm afraid!

We've been to the magpie cafe in Whitby and the prices where comparable except the quality was far superior !

Such a shame really as I'm sure others will feel the same.

Must do better Rick !

User

Service was good, food was average. The plaice was lovely, the cod was okay but the batter was tasteless. As for the chips they were really over cooked which was a shame. Quite a small seating area so very cramped in places, so not an overall good experience. Had been recommended to try, but overall not very impressed.

User

Really disappointed with the quality of the food , wad expecting more with the Rick Stein label . Fish was dry , batter hard and chips were soggy, tasted like they had been kept warm somewhere and not freshly cooked . Not good value for money , have tasted better fish and chips at my local chippy and they are half the price . Nice glass of wine though !

User

Over priced and under parr! Couldn’t tell if we were eating cod or haddock. It was soggy, tasteless and very greasy. We’ve had better fish & chips at our local chippy at half the price! Very disappointing. Paying for the name and not the quality!!

User

Just an average fish and chips. Daylight robbery at the price this place charges. It’s a piece of cod and potato. In my opinion it’s nothing more than pure greed from the bloke. I won’t be returning. I work too hard for my £.

User

First time in a few years that we had fish and chips from here. How disappointed were we!!! Over cooked batter, horrid chips and well we won’t go into how much they cost!!! Not impressed. Won’t be coming back unless we hear things have changed!!!

User

Called today for fish and chips restaurant was just closing .so got them from take away joined to restaurant the chips I'm sure were frozen chips and fish very poor would definitely would not go back.very disappointing expected better from Padstow .as it's a top place !!!!!!
