Eating more shellfish is a great choice for a healthy diet. As well as it being low in fat and high in protein (there’s more protein in scallops and shrimps than beef or chicken), shellfish is a source of B-vitamins and vitamin which aren’t always found in other food. Which is your favourite to eat?

You can easily taste the food quality of classic fish and chips here. Freshly cooked. Very enjoyable. Just missed seeing Rick Stein by 2 months. Bother, I missed him x

User

What an amazing meal. My fiancée treated me as an early birthday present and it was gorgeous. Perfect food and fantastic service, nothing was too much trouble for them.

A meal to remember

User

Very, Very good! Lovely batter, light and crisp. Fish (Plaice) nice and fresh

User

The best and probably the poshest fish and chips ever! 😁Friendly happy staff, nothing is to much trouble, thank you all 👍

User

Spur of the moment decision to go but oh so worth it! Cod curry was the best I've ever tasted and, well, the sticky toffee pudding a first for me but now hooked! Well recommend!

User

Once again Stein’s restaurants never fail. Crispy light battered hake with chips and served with a smile and an explanation why Chalky’s beer has a lively head

User

Great staff , food was great haddock chips and the Indonesian curry -which was very nice well worth a vist

User

Fish curry was superb! Tasty beautifully cooked and filling. Not overly spicy, but can taste the chillies. Muscadet was good too.

User

First off we were asked if we had booked! This is a Fish and chip restaurant! We were seated and the f and c were great but unfortunately the menu is being tampered with and now trying to be too clever., portion sizes have become much smaller although enough for me and the niceties have been removed ie little pots of tartare are now just a spoonful on the side. The children's menu is complicated, our little one just wanted fish bites and chips, we had to ask specifically for them. Please stick with the great fish and chips and make a seperate restaurant if people want a fine dining fish experience.

User

Always love watching Rick's cookery programmes and always wanted to try this place. My partner and I had mussels and bread, they were delicious, lovely service, nice cool relaxed atmosphere, very clean and fresh. Definitely be back for fish and chips next time!

User

Went out yesterday for a family meal. Service was very good. Prompt food. Fish and Chips very good. Cod very fresh. Fish selection very tasty and deceptively filling. A good evening all round.

User

We went last night as a little treat, the service was very good! The fish and chips were awesome but felt a few more chips for £14! Especially since after paying we saw a sign outside that said fish, chips and a glass of prosecco for £9.95 we didn’t get offered that so was a bit gutted! To be honest my local chippie In Milton Keynes is brilliant and only a couple of quid cheaper for takeaway so all told we enjoyed the experience and gave the hardworking staff a little extra

User

We called in on the off chance and we were greeted by friendly and attentive staff who managed to squeeze us in. The food was high quality and our choices included Fish and Chips, Mussels, Hake Fillet and whole Sea Bass all cooked and presented to a very good standard. A great end to a days sailing and surprisingly good value considering the name above the door. Would definitely recommend a visit.

User

We booked a table for our last night in Falmouth. We had to queue while each booking in front of us was checked in on the computer. Instead of just being shown to our table we had to wait while the front of house took a good few minutes to "do something" on the computer. When we were shown to our table we were asked if we would like a jug of water. We had to ask three times before the water arrived. We ordered martinis as an aperitif. Unfortunately our starters arrived before the drinks. We had to ask again for our martinis. The fish when it arrived was superb and cooked to perfection. However our "mixed leaves" side dish was a tad expensive for what we got. In fairness, when we got our bill, the martinis had been knocked off for the delay. We appreciated the fact that the staff had acknowledged this. The staff were pleasant and friendly, the food was excellent but the service was a little slow.

User

Had booked a table as came to Falmouth to listen to singers the singing was cancelled earlier in the day because of the football, we could of cancelled also but glad we didn't, good service and lovely food we had the fizz and chips offer and wasn't disappointed .

User

Good fish and chips but not quite up to Padstow standards!

User

5 star for the food, 3 star for the staff, waiting and temperature of the place. Thoroughly enjoyed our sharing platter to start with, terrific flavour and our Indonesian fish curry was excellent with great flavoured side dishes to go with it. But we had to wait a long time to be served our drinks and main course , and had to ask three times for water for the table - not enough staff on. Also sat underneath an air conditioning unit which was blasting away in spite of temperatures of 2 degrees outside - was freezing!

User

We ate here yesterday, having booked it as a special treat. The food was ok but I found the sloppy service detracted from the whole experience. We were seated near to the bar and were aware of between three to five staff at any one time hanging around the bar, most of them with their backs to the restaurant, doing nothing but drinking their own drinks and socialising with each other. The staff weren't observing the tables and catching customers' eyes. The restaurant wasn't busy but we waited twenty minutes after being seated before any member of staff approached us, at which point we ordered both food and drinks.

We weren't offered a jug of water, which the table next to us was offered when they were seated. We weren't asked if we wanted anything else such as vinegar when the food arrived, though again the table next to us was. No one asked us if our food was ok.

I wouldn't have minded any of these slight omissions had the staff been busy, but it's very irritating waiting to order and at least get drinks when you can see several staff busy standing around laughing and chatting with each other. No-one seemed to be overseeing or in charge of the staff at all.

To be fair, there was one industrious, attentive waitress but she was mainly busy at the other end of the restaurant. She brought our appetisers and offered to go and get side plates when she realised we were sharing the food.

User

The fish was lovely as was the fish cakes. Chips were rubbish. Pretty sure they were of the frozen variety, it would account for the dryness and artificial fluff after taste. For £16, I expected better

User

The fish was cooked perfectly. We had Cod and Hake - the chips on the other hand were hard and tasted like oven cooked oven chips which let down the main meal down. Hand cut chunky chips would have made the meal much better.

User

Rick if you ever read these... remove the skin on your haddock fillets. If almost every chip shop in Scotland can do it then so can you!!! Otherwise it was very tasty. You dont keep the skin on bits of meat so why on fish? Take the skin off before you fry it...

User

Our first visit and can only offer a good review. The fish and chips were lovely and that is what I award the 3 stars for. We arrived without booking and waited for a waitress to actually speak to us on arrival, both stood by their reception desk but chatting to each other before acknowledging us. There was room and we had a choice of tables. We then waited nearly 30mins and only because I caught the girls attention, did she take our drinks and food order. Another wait but eventually we had our drinks followed by our meal. I observed the staff this evening ignoring many other people either waiting to be seated or like us try to place a food order. The couple next to us had their starters served, then waited and waited and waited only to catch the eye of the waitress to take their plates away and receive their main meal. Once again this fell on deaf ears, just as it did for our request for the bill. We got up and paid at the desk in the end... feeling this is the only way to receive a service. The poor couple who still hadn’t been served their main meal after and hour wait had left as they were not prepared to wait any longer. My disappointment was not in the meal but in the way the girls ignored people either waiting to be seated, waiting for food or waiting to pay. Sorry ... not acceptable and will probably not return.

User

Now that’s a first, Rick stein is slipping, when you’re in his restaurant and the lads order pudding, they have run out of two desserts and they have no clotted cream to accompany the sticky toffee pudding. We are in Cornwall after all

Also if the plaice has chilli on it, that is one ingredient that should be written on the menu in my opinion.

Other than that it was fine albeit very quite on a Saturday night over New Years weekend.

User

My wife and I went to Falmouth yesterday had cod and chips not that great ,chips were overcooked and very crunchy if had faults teeth would have been a struggle been there loads of times as being a local but sooner go to GEM on quarry hill at rear of Argos much cheaper and un faultable ,as stiens overpriced service is rubbish had to ask several times for a jug of water no was not very busy .

User

I think this is over rated and overpriced. I have had much better elsewhere for 1/2 the price! Very disappointing. The fish dripped oil and the chips had a lot of the little crispy bits left from the bottom of the fryer. Wouldn’t go there again. I expected much better!

User

While the food is delicious the waiting staff let it down.

Having booked a table in February and arrived here at 7.45, it wasnt until 9.15 that our main arrived. In that time, we had a starter and ordered one drink, and by 8.50 we had finished our drinks and starter (at 8.35) and the main hadnt arrived.

The staff were slow at clearing and delivering food and it let the food down.

Overall it wasnt jam packed and so i dont understand how it took so long with 3 waiters working tonight.

I would have given it 1 star but the food was really enjoyable.

Would reccomend taking away rather than staying in (the food would come in time then).

User

When we arrived at lunch time and without a booking (was half term). We were greeted straight away and offered a table. The waitress was good as she asked would a proper table be better for us rather then the benches (my husband is disabled & walks with a stick). Nice we didn't have to ask to be seated at a proper table.

Order was taken quite quickly and we both had the fish & chips. It arrived pretty quickly and was of good size for the fish, peas were in a tiny pot and could of done with more. Both battered fish were a little wet though (had a little pool of fluid under both fish). Chips were OK. Little disappointed as we go to Rick Stein's in marlbourgh (near to where we live) and food is wonderful. No one came over to see if everything was OK. If this was my local Rick Stein's I wouldn't go back.

User

We went on Sunday. The food was good and the staff were fantastic, however the restaurant was unbearably hot. One of your lovely staff explained you had a problem with the air conditioning. I don't understand how they could carry on working in such an uncomfortable environment. Come on Mr Stein, you're not short of a few bob, decent air con should be essential to a comfortable dining experience.

User

Staff were friendly, cod was alright but chips were horrible, i was expecting it to be so much better for the prices you charge but I can honestly say I've had better from a high street fish & chip shop for half the price!!

User

I've been here a few times before but went last night and it's just not as special as it was. Presentation was poor, portion size was small & waitresses overstretched. Didn't once get asked if my meal was okay. Probably the last time I'll go for a while

User

Having had an email offering a reduced price meal on Tuesdays for oldies we traveled from Penzance especially. We have had a lot of meals in Porthleven and are usually delighted

On this occasion we were offered water twice but had to request it again. Lots of staff ,few customers

My fish and chips were not worth the effort Although cheap the fish was swimming in oil and very small. (Some pensioners still have an appetite and don’t want a child’s portion)

We are booked into Padstow top restaurant in May but we are getting now

User

Food was lovely. Service was beyond shocking. 90 mins from ordering drinks to getting mains. No one did a check back. Was not asked if we wanted more drinks. From someone who has been in this trade and still is you really need to look at the your service cycle

User

First people in the restaurant and chips were cold and hard, I guarantee they were not freshly cooked. The cod was all batter & not a lot of fish, what fish there was was over cooked...how they charge £13.95 is anyone’s guess. The waitress said sorry but didn’t seem too bothered, I appreciate she’s not doing the cooking. Stop ripping people off with below standard food Rick Stein!

User

Curry sauce looks and tastes shop bought over priced chips, took ages to prepare.... chips! Wasn't even busy. Very poor, pretentious fish and chips.

User

Awful really awful , my partner even asked if they had any hand cleanser as none left in toilets, waitress reply oh the tops are difficult to unscrew so we don’t have time , the cleanser inside says by Jill stein , she can’t be selling much , makes you wonder how the kitchen staff chefs go on for washing there hands

User

A bit disappointing to be honest and was really looking forward to it. We were sat there for 30 mins before being offered even a drink. When the food came it was fine but came out unevenly so my side dishes came long after I’d eaten the main. My daughters food arrived last when we’d all finished. The staff gave us the wine free to apologise and also the side dishes free but to be honest by then the experience of eating out had been a bit spoiled. Such a shame.

User

So sorry to post such a bad review. Soggy fish and undercooked chips. Horrible but expensive. Expected better. Disappointed.

User

Shockingly bad!!! You are paying for a name! Rick you are letting yourself down allowing people to serve this low quality food in your name. The chips were so bad, I've had better at Asda cafe. Will find it hard to believe your opinion when watching your show from now on. I wish I had read the reviews, I am not alone with this opinion

User

Hi, I tried contacting through the website but had no reply. We visited your take away last week and found the service and food shocking - I have sent photos to them . We were kept waiting 25 mins and I believe that the fish was cooked immediately but the other food wasn't - The girl serving kept asking for it and then asked for chips 3 times (not sure why a chip shop has no chips????) and after a 2 min drive to our flat this was the result. When The girl serving put the fish on the tray if was so floppy and soggy she struggled to lift it and then it broke on two. Grim! And inedible- very disappointed customers
