The origins of Riley Fireworks dates back to 1844 when Michael Riley established the business, producing and supplying fireworks and became one of the largest suppliers of pyrotechnics in the country providing displays across the North of England. The image above shows the site of Riley Fireworks in Ossett. Up until the First World War the company continued to grow, however the outbreak of war saw the company been employed by the War Office and the Admiralty and to put to use their knowledge of explosives. It is believed that during this time they filled as many as nine million grenades, made red and green square cartridges to the extent of a quarter of a million and 100, 000 parachute cartridges. That is a war record to be proud of.

The company ceased trading in 1927 and with it went a proud and honourable history.

The current Riley Fireworks was established in 2003 by a distant relative of Michael Riley, with a similar aim to the original company, to provide exceptional quality retail products and outstanding and memorable firework displays.
