At Ripon Grammar School, we place a great deal of emphasis on the individual, and ensuring their needs are met is paramount. The school aims to ensure every student, both day and boarding, fulfils their potential in a caring and supportive community where each individual is valued. Our students are gifted in many areas, and our wide-ranging programme of extra curricular activities ensures there is something for everyone, to meet all interests and talents.

The school is a selective co-educational grammar school with boarding which makes it one of a small, select group of schools in the country. We value the diversity of backgrounds that this can bring, with everyone contributing to the vibrant community of Ripon Grammar. The school is over-subscribed due to the high quality of education on offer. By secondary school standards we are not a large school, but this is undoubtedly one of our strengths. Everyone is valued as an important member of the community.

We pursue academic excellence – as evidenced by our being the top performing state school in Yorkshire at A level in 2013 and 2014 – achieved through our stimulating curriculum and challenging teaching. We were judged ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted following our most recent inspection in 2012 when inspectors noted: “Students are self-motivated learners who take an active part in their lessons, seeking to push the boundaries of what they know and can do. ”

We also value an all-round education where talent in music, drama and sport is nurtured and developed. We want all students to achieve the very best they are capable of, to challenge themselves, to discover what interests them and pursue what they’re good at. We believe students must be able to enjoy their time at school in order to fulfil their potential. When I speak to students they are very happy and are glad they have chosen Ripon Grammar School, a view supported by parents.

The school's history can be traced back as far as the seventh century, and in 2005 we celebrated the 450th anniversary since its refounding in 1555. Ripon Grammar School has prospered, especially in recent years, is thriving today and will continue to flourish in the future.
