Really good food. Definitely worth going if you are in Chelmsford
Nice food and drinks, lovely location, but not very busy and quite expensive.
Unfortunately when I booked the hotel I was directed to park in the car park opposite. Having paid exactly what was required I later received a £60 parking fine with some vicious penalties for appealing and no telephone contact details. When I queried this with the hotel management they said they would investigate but I'm still out of pocket and they are still suggesting the car park to their customers. It would seem the car park owners are randomly "on the make" and with the £60 unexpectedly and unfairly added to my costs I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
A really nice pub for a session just outside the main shopping of Chelmsford. Possibly the best beer garden in the city.
Rooms were modern with the beautiful old beams exposed. Some consideration has been given to soundproofing. There are doors closing in the stairs, and carpets to reduce noise. However, the floorboards above is still creaked fairly badly. The air conditioner in our room didn't work, and the staff, who were very helpful and friendly, moved us promptly to a bigger upstairs room. Other than that, everything was clean and well kept, and there was a good tea, coffee and biscuit selection in the room.
Nice building, good beer selection. Slightly over-priced for a pub.
Visited on Good Friday in a family group of 6 for a birthday meal. We have enjoyed previous visits, but the menu has now changed (for the worse) and the standards have slipped - one diner ordered the mixed grill which included a chicken breast still bloody in the middle. The staff were, however, exemplary in their handling of the situation.
We often stop in for a drink on our way into/out of town. The beer garden is fantastic, right by the river. Inside is plush, posh Essex pub chic. Drinks are fairly pricey (watch out for soft drinks costs) and the beer selection is nothing to write home about. Not had the food but it looks alright. Beautiful old building and an outside space to die for.
Very posh surroundings. Lovely decor. Beautiful garden. Really friendly staff. Would vist again.
