Intermittent starting, steering lock malfunction diagnostic codes for CIM module & loss of key communication looks like a faulty ignition to me!
This 2007 SAAB 93 come to us with a totally dead battery. After replacing it with one of our Yuasa batteries that come standard with 4 years warranty we stabilised the vehicles power. Then carried out an hours diagnostics Session.
We found the ISM “Ignition Switch Module” ... to be at fault with worn electrical connection pads. This ISM uses moving electrical connectors that wear after time causing loss of communication to the CIM module.
After stripping the ISM down to a bare board you can see the contacts have worn using special electrical tools we cleaned the pads & finished with electrical cleaner. We then reassembled the module applying non static grease to the moving parts and tested the component.
Now this Saab starts first time every time!

Another busy day in RMP workshop today!
This Audi S5 4.2FSI V8 was dropped off with us today for our “Full Service Deal” that includes a free MOT!
After passing the MOT this Audi needed a little more loving as this beast has a twin 3inch miltech cat back system that was leaking from the joins on the center section’s, so after removing cleaning and re-clamping its good as new.

BMW 330i running issues!
Today we looked at this BMW with fault codes for swirl flap failure so we tested and found they needed replacing, no more codes. one job sorted!
Running slightly better this vehicle still has a rough idle, smoking after a drive with loss of power but no EML and no code with diagnostics, we decided to do a live data read down the bottom of the road and found the exhaust side Vanos was not changing values, a job for Monday🤓
