COVID-19 As I work alone on my own premises, I would like to reassure clients that work on their lorries, trailers, caravans, etc will continue as normal.
However, I would like to request that in order to comply with the Government regulations I will not be making any DIRECT contact with customers.
... All work is to be agreed electronically and when customers drop off their vehicle, it must be sprayed down with an antiviral preparation spray, along with the keys before 'handing over'. The 'handover' will be discussed in each individual case to ensure no direct contact is made.

When was the last time you checked your tyres?
The photos below are from a Pre-purchase Inspection that I carried out yesterday on a 7.5t
... Whilst inspecting the underside of the lorry, I found that the offside rear inner tyre was flat. I informed the seller, who contacted his local garage to arrange for it to be inflated.
I would not agree to drive a lorry in this condition, however the seller was happy to do so at his own risk.
As the technician inflated the tyre, at around approximately 80psi the tyre exploded violently causing the rear number plate and some skirt trim to fly off the lorry!
Should this have been an outer tyre, it would have seriously injured the technician.
These tyres are designed to hold 100+psi, however if driven whilst flat, the side walls become seriously weakened and can rupture with horrific consequences!
Please take some time before every journey to check your tyres or if you’re unsure seek professional advice.

It’s nice to have something different in the workshop 😁 This Equi-Trek Show Treka came in with a damaged side panel, it also had delamination above the wheel arch which is a common fault on this style of trailer. Due to the design of the trailer the whole side needed to be replaced. The replacement panel was sealed and bonded on all edges and chassis/panel joins which is something that Equi-Trek didn’t do when building this style trailer. One happy customer with a trailer that will last for many more years 😎🐴👌

Over the next year, the DVSA are going to be undertaking a much needed crackdown on trailer safety. This will include horse trailers.

With the warm weather we are currently having I had another 3.5t in this week to have an electric ventilation fan fitted 💨🐴 These vents can be run in either direction drawing cool air in or sucking warm air out, The cost of this fitted was £300

So last week I had a 7.5t lorry in for it’s annual plating.
Whilst giving it its pre test inspection I noticed a few dark patches on the underside of the plywood floor.
To the untrained eye it wouldn’t look like anything serious.
... With my trusty screwdriver in hand I inspected these areas and the results are quite shocking as the floor was 30mm thick (Original 18mm floor with 12mm on top) and it went straight through.
With the old floor removed it was also clear to see that one of the cross bearers didn’t cover the full width of the lorry and this was where the horses hind feet are when travelling.
New bearer and full 22mm aluminium plank floor fitted which gives the benefit of longer life and weight reduction.
It’s also worth noting that the Plating inspection did not highlight any fault with the flooring as this is an area that they do not check.

Proof that the age of a lorry isn’t important.
Two years ago I was asked by my customer if a 1993 Iveco was worth looking at due to how old it was.
I carried out a pre purchase inspection and found it to be in very good condition with lots of nice service history.
... Today it passed its plating (mot) with flying colours and no advisories for the 2nd year running with the tester commenting on how good it was for its age.
It had an annual service and pre plating inspection beforehand which only found two anti roll bar bushes that needed replacing.
