Rodney Quakes

About Rodney Quakes

An Oxfordshire 5-piece with an eclectic mix of folk and popular music.

Rodney Quakes Description

Rodney Quakes formed in 2007 and named themselves after the great 18th century agitator who was executed for stealing the King's snuff.

Rob and Chris kicked things off as a duo but pretty soon realised that their rhythm was terrible and some percussive ‘decoration’ was called for. After a few drummers came and went they met Lee who was the only one who could stand the site of the bouffant hair-dos. In 2010, fed up with being forced to listen to their music every time she saw them, Libby decided to join the band in an attempt to convert Chris and Lee to the Way of the Hippy. Then in 2011 the band were seen by Steve, a retired London Uni professor, who just happened to play a mean folk fiddle and wanted to learn more about the complex sonic maze the band navigated. Thus he swelled their ranks to five.

'The Quakes' performance is a bubbling pot of folksy jigs with a few spicy rock-licks chucked in for good measure and some idiosyncratic beats that will set your foot tapping. Phil Beer once said about the band "Christ, what's that noise? I need another drink. " - praise indeed for this power-house of rocky-folk fusion.
