It was an absolute delight to welcome the Nowegian Bodø Cathedral Youth Choir (Bodø Domkirkes Ungdomskor) to Roedean. The choir come from Bodø, located in Northern Norway, north of the Arctic Circle. The choir consists of 52 girls from the age of 14 and up to young adults, and gives a large number of concerts every year, both in Bodø and on tour. We very much enjoyed listening to them sing for us and wish them all the best on the continuation of their tour of England! Tusen takk!
Listen to them sing 'Eatnemen Vuelie' by Frode Fjellheim in Roedean Chapel here:

It was lovely to welcome OR and Kite Surfer Islay back to Roedean today where she gave an impromptu Kite Surfing theory lesson to Mrs Chandler's curious Year 8 class. Mrs Chandler was equally fascinated, as she taught Islay PE during her time here! Thank you, Islay, for taking the time to talk to our girls and show them your equipment! We look forward to seeing you surf past Roedean tomorrow! Kite Britain

Rockpools Day is the first main admissions event normally held in the June, just over a year prior to entry. At Rockpools, the girls disappear down Roedean's secret tunnel to the sea, explore rockpools, and build and decorate their very own hot air balloon or rocket and watch it fly into the sky! It is an informal and hugely enjoyable day when the girls begin to build friendships with each other and their relationship with the school.
If you are interested in a place for you...r daughter in Years 7 or 9 in September 2019, please contact our Director of Admissions on 01273 667626 for further information about Rockpools 2018.

Sisters half a world away – Roedean South Africa’s visit On Tuesday 17 April, a beautifully clear and sunny day, Roedean was delighted to welcome 51 students and 4 members of staff from our sister school in South Africa. They visited us as part of a cultural and literary tour of England, and they instantly gelled with the Roedean girls, who are now desperate to go to South Africa on a return visit. A beautiful service in Chapel marked the connections between our two schools, and it included a wonderful performance by the Roedean SA girls of a prayer, which drew spontaneous applause from our students.
Our visitors thoroughly enjoyed their brief time with us, and we hope that this will be one of many fruitful exchanges and visits in the future.

Roedean is delighted with the exceptional progress which is being made on its new flood-lit all-weather pitch on site. This fantastic facility will transform the sporting provision for the School.
We still need help to complete this project, which will provide an excellent sporting facility for Roedean girls for years to come. You can name your own bench at the pitch for just £12 a week. Roedean’s Festival Celebrating Women on International Women’s Day
8 March is less than 2 weeks away, and our Festival on that day promises to be a really exciting event, with thirteen speakers coming to the School, all women, of whom four are Old Roedeanians. The students have been able to choose which talks to attend, so that those with predominantly scientific interests can hear from a range of speakers in that field, and those who prefer the Arts have a choice of speakers... who will interest them. We are also delighted to be welcoming a number of students from Blatchington Mill and Longhill Schools in Brighton. The speakers coming to Roedean are the following:
• Dame Mary Archer – a Chemist who is the Chair of Trustees for the National Science Museum, with a long-standing interest in solar photoconversion [Yrs 11-13 only] • Holly Bourne – a children’s writer, well known for Am I Normal Yet? And the Spinster Club series; she also has a strong interest in feminism [Yrs 7-10 only] • Anabela Chan OR – a London-based award-winning jewellery designer – this year, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Rita Ora, and Salma Hayek have all worn her statement pieces on the red carpet • Rose Hudson-Wilkin – Chaplain to the Queen and to the Speaker of the House of Commons, and one of the first cohort of women to become bishops in the Church of England • Jasleen Kandhari OR – is an art and textiles historian, specialising in Sikh art and South Asian material culture, who teaches courses at Oxford University [Yrs 11-13 only] • Rebecca Long OR – the founder of Boudica Films, a female-centric film company, which has at least 50% women in all roles as part of the film-making process • Professor Mary Lovegrove OBE – a diagnostic radiographer, who is Emeritus Professor of Education and Development for Allied Health Professionals • Virginia McKenna OBE – a film and theatre actress, and animal rights’ activist and wildlife campaigner, who founded the Born Free Foundation • Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu – a lawyer and women’s rights’ activist, who is also the co-founder of the Women’s March London [Yrs 11-13 only] • Yang-May Ooi OR – she is a bestselling author, a multimedia creative and the writer/performer of Bound Feet Blues, a stage play about footbinding • Professor Kate O’Riordan – Professor of Digital Culture at the University of Sussex, with a focus on how gender and sexuality are presented in digital media [Yrs 11-13 only] • Gabrielle Rowles – a proponent of the BoingBoing Theory, which focuses on the power of resilience and a positive mind-set • Captain Anna Sandell – a commercial airline pilot from Sweden, who flies the 787 Dreamliner, the largest airliner in the world, and trains other pilots
It will be a brilliant, empowering, and enlightening day!

Roedean celebrates Chinese New year with a bang and a flash! Gōngxǐ fācái! This year, Chinese New Year begins on February 16, so we decided to celebrate it a few days early at Roedean, so that we could share in the festivities before half-term. The Catering Department put on an amazing spread of Chinese food, and the girls made wonderful lanterns and traditional paintings, along with a chance to try your hand at the art of calligraphy. Also Victoria C played a piece on the traditional Chinese zither, or guzheng, in Chapel, and it was really beautiful. However, the highlight of the pre-celebrations was the firework display – everyone gathered in the Quad to watch the fireworks, and it was brilliant! 恭喜发财 and 恭喜發財!

Roedean enjoys waking up to snow! The students at Roedean had a brilliant time when they woke up to find the School was covered in a blanket of snow. They dashed outside before morning registration to have some fun, and it was a good job they did as it didn’t last and most of it was gone before lunch!

Spent some of the best years of my life here. I can't recommend Roedean highly enough.

I loved it there (even though it was chilly!!)

I loved almost every minute!

Having now finally packed my bags, finished my exams, said a last good bye to everyone and had one final hoorah at Roedean day I can only now begin to fully understand how life changing the last two years have been and how incredibly grateful I am to the school. Roedean has given me the confidence to take on any challenge life may thrust at me, to do so with windswept hair, a smile on my face and above all a firm, fixed and thorough sense of my own identity. Frieda Kahlo says 'feet what do I need them for if I have wings to fly'; prior to joining Roedean I lacked self belief, faith in my self and a sense that I would fulfil my aspirations. At first without feet to walk I now leave with wings determined to fly. Thank you .
