Last year, Amy Judge and her family walked 14 miles for the charity on our Hike 4 Houses sponsored walk. ‘Steven, myself and Noah choose to take on the 14 mile challenge last year because we wanted to give something back to the charity which supported us during such a difficult time. Every step we took and penny raised was us giving back so they can continue to support families like ours. Noah was born 16 weeks early and was very poorly. If it wasn’t for them offering us a room, then we wouldn’t have been able to be with Noah in hospital each day - without it I really don’t know what we would’ve done.’ Join us at Hike 4 Houses this September. Volunteer Appreciation Post! We were very fortunate to have Aleksandra join us as a volunteer for a few weeks and she was a great addition to the team. We hugely appreciated her enthusiasm, can-do attitude and willingness to get involved. We wish Aleksandra all the best of luck in her future ventures! We’re always grateful for everyone who donates their time to help out. If you would like to volunteer too, please get in touch with our team on our Facebook page or email: Esther.Williams@uk.mcd.com

This week we were paid a visit by Jack, Larissa and their baby Ellie. They very kindly presented our House with a cheque for an amazing £2,142, which they raised at their annual Memorial Golf Day in loving memory of their beautiful baby boy Thomas last month. They have chosen to use the proceeds to sponsor our ‘Windsor Walk’ room. This was the room they stayed in themselves when they were with us at RMH Evelina during Thomas’ treatment at the Evelina Children’s Hospital. We are so grateful for their kindness, and generous support! A huge thank you to the family from everyone at RMH Evelina London.

Last week, we had a visit from our colleagues from Ronald McDonald House Charities in Russia! It was wonderful to host our guests, who had travelled so far to meet with us to see how we run our home-away-from-home. We hope they enjoyed our meeting as much as we did!

This week the Sykes family had a lovely day out enjoying the sunny weather in Archbishop’s Park and watching England defeat Sweden in the World Cup quarter finals in our Day Room. It was their first family day together with baby Tiger-Lily, who was allowed out of hospital for the first time since February, and what a great day it was for them. We hope the family can bring more good luck to the England football team for the upcoming semi-finals!

We were really touched to hear from Claire when she started planning a 10 mile sponsored walk around Norwich. Claire’s sister Vicki stayed in our House when her son was poorly, but sadly Vicki passed away earlier this year so the family is aiming to raise funds to sponsor a room in her memory. Claire and several members of friends and family, including her 76-year-old dad undertook the 10 mile walk in the beautiful sunshine! Well done and good luck with your next couple of fundraising events. Thank you for choosing to support our Charity as Vicki’s legacy.

We want to say a huge thank you to Jack and Larissa, who recently held their second annual Memorial Golf Day in memory of their beautiful baby boy Thomas. Our House Assistant Pam attended the day and was blown away by the support for their event, which raised an amazing £2002 and counting. With the money they have raised over the last two years, the family have decided to sponsor the room they stayed in whilst Thomas was receiving treatment for a congenital heart disease at Evelina Children’s Hospital. We’re so grateful to them, and we’d also like to say a big congratulations on the birth of their baby girl Ellie!

This week we had a lovely visit from a past family who stayed with us 13 years ago! Mum, dad and grandmother stayed in our old House for 3 weeks, whilst 9 month old Maisy received treatment from the team at Evelina Children’s Hospital. Mum Sophie, Aunty Helena and Maisy had a look around the new House and found their message bricks on our wall. It was lovely to show them round the new House and have a chat!

Today we have been reminiscing about all our past families who became friends from our old House, as we noticed a Forget-Me-Not flower had planted itself in front of our wall of messages and inscriptions. This wall was created as part of our ‘buy a brick scheme’ we started in our old House, when we found out the great news that we would be moving into our new purpose-built 59 bedroom House. If you have a memory brick in our wall and would like to come and see it, drop us a message or call and pop in and see it. Our door is always open.

Last month we said farewell to Divine’s family. After staying with us for 270 nights, Divine could finally go home with Mum and Dad and her big brothers David and Daniel, just in time to celebrate Divine’s first birthday in May! Being able to stay minutes from Divine’s bedside at the Evelina Children’s Hospital meant that mum, dad and her big brothers could be at her side every step of her journey and still stay together as a family. We will greatly miss seeing them every day!

User

A huge thank you to Niamh and her family who donated £100, donated by family and friends when Niamh celebrated her second birthday! Niamh’s family stayed with us at our old Guy’s House in 2016 for three months after being rushed to Evelina Children’s Hospital from her local hospital in Hastings. Niamh’s mum told us, “No matter how many times I thank your team for the room and support I received it will never be enough. So, we fundraise every year on Niamh’s birthday because we know that every penny helps to keep a family close together.” Thank you to the Dean’s Place Hotel for giving permission for the family to have a collection tin at the hotel. 🧡

Without this place we would of been lost! We live 2 hours away otherwise. When our Little Harry was in Evelina. This place is amazing. Will need it throughout Harrys admissions. Everyone was so nice. If you can donate monthly please do! Im donating £100 over Christmas thinking of all the families who are there this year. Merry Christmas to all the families and supportive staff there

User

Without this house I wouldn't be able to stay with my newborn son while he had his surgery, and my daughter wouldn't be able to stay with me.. It's somewhere you never think you'll need but its so amazing the support you get there from staff and other families thank you so much xx

User

Without the Ronald McDonald House we would of been lost. We got rushed down with our 7 week old baby boy from Norwich to the Evelina so he could get his poorly heart fixed and we didn’t know where we would stay or what we would do. With the RMHCUK being able to offer us a room whilst my son got his operation and while he was recovering took so much worry away and it aloud us to live comfortable while we concentrate on him. It also aloud my daughter to stay with us too. The whole set up is amazing and makes you feel home from home. We will forever be thankful! Xx

User

While myself and my little just went to evelina children's hospital just for some test. We found out my son was very ill and needed an emergency operation, I was in bits not only finding out about my little boy but for my other children at home as we was going to stay in hospital for a long time, but the great staff at Ronald McDonald stepped in and brought my children to be with myself and my son while we was going through a touch time and thay had the best time ever and all the staff was very welcoming, kind, caring just totally beautiful and I cannot thank them enough and I will be defferently donating to this great charity Thank you all again

User

We stayed there for 2 days as we had an appt at Evelina for our 4 month old daughter. It is such a great place with great people - cannot fault them for anything. Made our trip much more relaxed knowing we would be so close to the hosp for our daughter :)

User

We stayed only 2 nights out of our daughters 10 days in Evelina. Was a lovely place very friendly and helped us be close to our daughter.Thank you very much for helping us xx

User

Was going through the reviews and can't believe we didn't leave one! We were here for 4 months and were overwhelmed with the accommodation and friendliness of the staff. It was tough having a poorly baby but a godsend being just across the road. The generosity of all involved with this charity (American women, Greggs, Pret etc) is so humbling and it's wonderful to see there is so much kindness in this world. Thank you all. XX

User

Truely grateful to all they have done and providing us a place near to our boy. Amazing room and kitchen and all the people supporting it

User

This place just makes me speechless. 2 weeks we stayed here whilst my son was in intensive care at St Thomas’. I’m in canterbury so to travel to London everyday would of been impossible as I also had a 3 year old. Making it possible not only to spend my time with my newborn but also having my oldest son with me as well is just a weight lifted off my shoulders. You have everything a family needs to live off. I couldn’t get my head around there’s a pull out washing line in the bathroom! Just everything had been thought about for us families. I’m so grateful this was available to me and I couldn’t thankyou enough. The staff are just wonderful and you really did take a lot of worry off my shoulders

User

This place is a god send!!!! We would have been lost if we didn't have this place to rest our head for the last six months! We will be needing it again going forward too, such a help to families going through a hard time! Just makes things that little bit easier being able to be close to your poorly child whilst trying to keep your family together! Xx

User

This house is fantastic for all the families that need some time away from the hospital to have some decent sleep, they provide everything you need for support. it allowed me to have a week off work to come and support my wife and son in hospital and i am very grateful. let's hope i can raise a lot of money doing the marathon for this house!!

User

This amazing place meant that we could be close to our baby Ollie when he was in Evelina Hospital in January- February. I don't know what we would have done without it! It was a haven at the end of stressful days at the hospital - couldn't have been anymore comfortable.

We will be eternally grateful!

User

Thanks to Richard and his family for making everyone a lovely roast dinner today

User

Thank you so much. Our family was lucky enough to live here for 2 weeks in May 2018 when our child was in Paediatric Intensive Care and High Dependency at The Evelina. It was a huge weight off our mind to not have to think how we would juggle the family away from home and a hospital stay of an unknown length. The staff have hearts of gold and empathy in abundance. The night time security guard was amazing....I used to call him when I left the hospital late at night / in the night so someone knew I was walking on my own and to check I got back safely. We are going to use your Amazon list as a gift list for a family event later this year. Thank you for making such a traumatic event bearable and for giving us some sense of normality as a family. X

User

Something you think you’ll never need however this house was invaluable to us. It’s like a 5 star hotel. Not that you fully appreciate it whilst you have a very poorly child. Thank you so much for letting my husband and I stay here. Don’t know what we would have done without RM.

We will be making a donation at Christmas.

THANK YOU xxx

User

It’s truly a life saver when parents are growing trough their worst nightmare with kids in hospital. Amazingly clean, extremely friendly and we’re always so well looked after

User

Fabulous house! Amazing staff even the security who we saw more of tbh he always had the time of day to talk. We stayed at Ronald McDonald back in September 2016 for two weeks then we got rushed back in January and spent little over two months here while our was very sick snd we got told she wouldn't be coming home with us. This house provided us with food and shelter a warm bed and water to bath in in the hardest time of our life's. I can not express how important told his house is to not only our family but many others too. It's a home away from home in the most needed time of your life's.

User
