Superb attendance for the latest qualifying open with Jay and Magpie lakes being used and good to see lots of new faces at the fishery!
... Most of the anglers fancied Magpie lake to produce the outright winner and so it did! Newcomer to the venue Andy Rayment found the better fish in the margins using micros and maggots to catch 35-40 carp for a convincing 163.10lb runner up on Magpie was Angling direct backed Jack Gill from peg 12 he chopped and changed between pellet shallow and the margins with corn and maggot to tally 143.10lb 3rd on the lake was another new angler to the fishery Dave Harold from next peg to the winner he put 118.06lb onto the scales to just edge ahead of a load of 100lb plus weights!
Jay lake produced a very close match like it always does. very rarely do you see anglers run away with it. Lake winner was James wilkinson from peg 26 he alternated various maggot lines to finish with 104.07lb enough for 2nd in the continental payout! Lake runnner up was Dennis page from peg 30 he caught on his favoured corn approach to finish with 98.08lb just ahead of Simon Godfrey and Jimmy brooks who both had 95.14 and 95.02lb respectively.

... A very close match in the first summer qualifying open of 2019 with both lake winners booking a spot in the august two day final!
A steady start for the majority fishing on jay with fish showing to shallow tactics with maggots and then switching to groundbait and maggots in the margins later on for those bigger carp.on Raven the small f1's kept the anglers busy with lots of bites throughout the day and some better fish showing in the edges late on.

Despite the treacherous conditions a good turnout once again and very close weights showing the fish are starting spread out for the latest qualifier fished on Magpie & Jay.
Magpie was the favourable lake before the draw because it offers more shelter for those lucky enough to draw it? But despite this match winner David Adams produced the goods from a very windy Jay lake!
... Using corn at 2+2 david caught carp 2-4lb steadily for a 86.01lb total to just beat Boston Angler Sean Higginbottom from peg 30 on Magpie who caught a mixed bag of stocky carp and a few late edge fish to sneak magpie lake victory.
3rd overall was Norfolk rod Jack gill from peg 2 on jay using a mixture of soft pellet and maggot to catch F1's carp and smaller stocky carp for a busy days total of 79.08lb .

One of the best venues in the country for catching good weights. So many methods you can use to compete. Good all round fersilities. Excellent tack!e shop and Clares amazing breakfasts

User

One of the best venues in the area. Quality fishing and a great tackle shop.

User

Magnificent Fishery !!! and I have only scratched the surface, having only fished Magpie lake in three recent winter opens with some success - I can only imagine how good the fishing is in the summer. Alex runs the tackle shop 'which is well stocked with quality bait & tackle alike' he also runs well organised matches on a weekly basis, doing a great job on both fronts - They also have a modern cafe serving delicious food by friendly staff - There are a number of lakes there to explore, so my advice is pay it a visit, you wont be disappointed : ))
