Roots Psychology Description
I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist based in Worcestershire specialising within the field of child and adolescent mental health. I have been supporting people experiencing psychological and emotional distress since 2002, both in the NHS for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and within the private sector.
In my private practice I offer clinical assessment and psychological therapy to children, young people (up to the age of 25) and their families. I work in close collaboration with clients offering evidence based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for a wide range of presentations. I am registered with the HCPC and am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society.
In addition to this I offer training, consultation and supervision to healthcare professionals, colleagues in educational settings, social care and the voluntary sector. I work closely with organisations to create bespoke packages tailored to their specific requirements, these can vary from single informative workshops to more continual packages of support such as drop in sessions.
If you would like more information please contact me for an informal discussion regarding any of my services.

This is us this September! My eldest is off to school (sob!) and although he's familiar with the building as he's been at pre school there I've noticed a slight change in behaviour:
Being told hes now 'A big boy' and off to big school has led to some babyish behaviour (regression) - wanting to be carried, wanting me to dress him, babytalk, clingyness etc and some spectacular meltdowns and resentment towards his little brother, I'm putting this down to anxiety about the change ahead and a fear of becoming "big".
Here's a helpful article if anyone has children off to start their schooling adventures

And this is backed up by neuroscience- when children are frightened they go in to self defence mode rather than learning to be a good person which is what we all want for our children. Adopting an attitude of PACE is much more effective 👍🏻❤️🙌🏻
Great little article from Hey Sigmund! We covered this recently in some training we did for teaching staff and parents. Once we get our heads round whats going on physically we can feel so much more empathy for what's going on for our teens psychologically. (And often therefore feel a lot less stressed as parents!👍🏼)
Any thoughts on this?

Thank you for having us @kings_worcester its been a pleasure!
Well worth seeing Kim present if you can get to Cardiff!
Prepping for another PACE workshop this evening for parents. Love this element of our work - meeting parents, teachers and social care staff who share a passion for supporting young people with emotional struggles. We work hard to make sure everyone can take something away with them and its often rather fun too! If you would like us to support your school or agency visit our website (link in bio!) And yes that is a jammy Dodger! 😉
For any early years practitioners - looks interesting
With a little help from CBeebies.
Following on from the last post - some information to help us as parents understand why our children may self harm.
