Roro (Ride Out Ride On)

About Roro (Ride Out Ride On)

RORO is a one-to-one cycle outreach service that aims to empower adults and children who have been affected by disability and /or long-term health conditions. RORO enables people to engage with the wider community, to get out into the environment, to work in partnership with someone else, to discover or rediscover a sense of freedom and independence and most importantly to have some fun! We use a specialist recumbent tandem (Hase Pino), adapt it to the individual's needs and requirements and then cycle for 1 hour sessions on traffic-free routes in and around Bristol. Our RORO rider is positioned on the back (in charge of the steering, the brakes and the gears) and the client is positioned on the front in a reclined position (pedalling as much or as little as they like). We work in partnership with the client from the very beginning to make sure that the sessions are as purposeful and pleasurable as possible. We're an outreach service, which means that we meet the client wherever they want to explore and begin the adventure from there. With RORO there is a feeling of moving forward, of breaking the cycle of feeling stuck, of cycling for change, of engagement with our society, of being visible in our society, of being seen by others on equal terms. In this way there can be a transformative effect on people and on their views. This is social change at work in Bristol.
