Dog Grooming for the discerning dog owner in Leominster & Ludlow

Rosie'S Grooming Room - Yarpole, Leominster & Ludlow Description

About Me:
Hello I'm AJ, after many years of working in both boarding kennels & grooming salons I decided to open my own grooming salon in 2012. Rosie's Grooming Room is a small salon run from my home in Yarpole, on the Herefordshire /Shropshire border. I pride myself on providing a kind and caring service where the welfare of your dog always comes first.

I am professionally trained and hold my City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma for Professional Dog Stylists and I am an International Certified Master Groomer. I have also completed an OCN Level 3 accredited animal first aid course. I have a commitment to Continued Professional Development and update my training regularly, attending seminars both to learn new skills and keep up to date with modern techniques.

Dogs are groomed on an individual basis to help ensure the minimum of stress for your dog during their visit. My priority is always to treat all dogs with kindness and respect.

Dogs can be groomed either to breed standard or to suit the individual requirements of the client. A free consultation is offered to all new clients, as I believe it is more important to provide a service the client is happy with, rather than what the groomer thinks is right.

All dogs are health checked before the groom commences and any concerns discussed with you. I will talk through your exact requirements, taking into account the dog's lifestyle, skin condition, health and current condition of coat before a style is chosen. As a member of International Professional Groomers & the British Isles Grooming Association I subscribe to a strict code of ethics. I am fully insured for all dogs in my care. Please call me with any questions you have or to make an appointment

So for #nationalpetmonth I've been involved in a little project with @addishome to promote responsible pet ownership and raise awareness of the cruel business of puppy farming. Addis have also been raising money for the wonderful Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre and @official_rspca I'm really grateful to Addis for standing up and shouting about this issue, something many big brands would shy away from. Last week I visited DBARC with Rich from Addis to see the good w...ork they do so please enjoy some of the photos we took of a few of the many different animals in their care. Don't forget the donations and tips you leave with me also go to fund @schnauzerfestuk to pay for the vital veterinary treatment needed for the dogs saved by DBARC #rescuedog #rescuedogsofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #catsofinsta #rabbitsofinstagram #dogrescue #stoppuppyfarms #cavalierlover #schnauzerlovers #doggroomersofinstagram #colliesofinstagram #schnauzerfestuk #compassion @ Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre

This month I am working on a little project with Addis Housewares for National Pet Month helping to raise awareness of responsible pet ownership.
I am proud to say Addis are supporting the Diana Brindlecombe Animal Rescue Centre and the RSPCA with £1 from the sale of every RollaReleasa this month going to the charities. It's a great little tool to solve a problem I'm sure we all struggle with 🙄
Head on over to the website www.addis.co.uk where there is also free delivery at the moment and let me know how you get on ☺️

I am so very proud to be able to support this wonderful charity and the fabulous staff at Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre. The work they do is just amazing.
Puppy farming is really just the most cruel business imaginable. Please consider sharing this post to help raise awareness.
Thank you all so much for helping with your donations and leaving tips throughout the year, every penny really does help 🧡

Yesterday we visited DBARC to see the good work being done to help the Schnauzers rescued from puppy farms. For all of you who have left tips and donations that go into my @schnauzerfestuk collection this is how the money is spent. All of these dogs have complex medical needs and the donations help get them on their feet before they go to their new homes. Many have had surgery to restore their sight which makes such a huge difference to their lives. Thank you to @dogtaniant...hethreepupsketeers for bringing along your gang, 3 Schnauzers, Gertie, Violet and Hansel all helped by Schnauzerfest. Another, little Nell, you are fostering while she recovers from surgery and of course old Henry the Cavalier (so Myrtle didn't feel outnumbered 😉) Another 3, Pansy, Dennis and Zena all in the care of DBARC until they are well enough to find a forever home. Thank you all for giving your support 🧡 Thanks also to @moomooandbearuk for Pepper's lovely new Schnauzerfest lead and collar and flowers for both the girls 🧡 #schnauzerfest #schnauzersofinstagram #madaboutschnauzersuk #miniatureschnauzer #rescuedog #cavaliersofinstagram #stoppuppyfarms #stoppuppyfarming #puppyfarmsurvivor #cavalierkingcharlesspaniel #schnauzerlovers #cavalierlover @ Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre

Great post here from Rick @allpositivedog regarding dog food. There are some very poor quality foods including some from big name brands. Remember you are what you eat and diet can have a big impact in your dog's behaviour.
If you are unsure please go and see Lauren @leominsterpetcentre who will be happy to give you some advice

We are getting asked about diet in our classes so thought we would share this post again! We also will have some samples to give away at classes thanks to ACANA Pet Foods please ask us if you would be interested ! We are learning lots about the effects of diet on our dogs’ health and behaviour, diversity in their diet is very important. The dog’s gut has its own loop with the brain and it can affect their behaviour directly. Raw feeding and natural diet feeding are great, sometimes though it’s hard enough feeding your family a healthy home cooked diet without then adding the dog in too !!! A lot of us use dry complete diets as it’s easy and with busy family life it’s one less thing to worry about ! But it doesn’t have to be that hard to provide a better and more diverse diet for your dog!!! Here are our top tips !! 1. Make sure the dry complete diet is good quality , this is really important as so many well known brands don’t have high meat content or great nutritional value at all. Check the ingredients on the back, a lot are full of bulking ingredients like grains and have only a small meat content. Leominster Pet Centre have a wide range of foods and can advise you on the best brand to feed your dog taking your budget into account. ! Also check out allaboutdogfood.co.uk they rate all the foods in an easy to understand way !! 2. Add fresh food into the complete diet but you don’t have to buy extra food just use what you are cooking and add bits in !! Rule from Natural Canine Kitchen is Add one spoon of fresh and remove 2 spoons of biscuits.
3. Use the fresh food as enrichment for your dog. New tastes and smells can be enriching and keep your dog healthy!! You can just use trays or muffin tins

I feel the need to put a few things straight.
A recent conversation with somebody assumed dog grooming was easy, “it’s just a wash and clip, anyone can do it”.
Yes, it’s true the dog grooming industry is unregulated and in theory anyone can pick up a pair of scissors and call themselves a dog groomer. They may even undertake one of the £25 online courses that profess to make you a ‘qualified dog groomer’, but that doesn’t mean that your dog would be safe in their hands.

As most of you know I send a donation to charity each year with the tips and donations I have collected throughout the year. After 5 years of sponsoring a kennel at Many Tears I thought it was time for a change so this year I have sent the donation to Schnauzerfest.
Schnauzerfest raises money for dogs saved from terrible backgrounds. They're often rescued from puppy farms and other awful situations. Money raised goes directly to the Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre, a... place of sanctuary and excellent care where the dogs receive everything needed before being found perfect homes.
Many dogs helped through Schnauzerfest donations receive life-changing veterinary treatment, such as cataract surgery which restores their vision, or neurological treatment which enables them to live pain-free lives. All of this is costly and with Schnauzerfest donations, the financial worry for DBARC of providing what the dogs need is greatly eased. Even when dogs don't require major veterinary treatment, DBARC ensures their stay while awaiting their new homes is comfortable and special. It's personal and perfectly provided care for dogs who have never known human kindness. Schnauzerfest funds help DBARC to offer the best environment possible for vulnerable dogs to move forwards on their journeys towards normal, happy lives.
My Rosie in the video (picture in comments) shows the difference their fundraising makes. From a terrified dog leaning into the corner of the kitchen and after cataract surgery paid for by DBARC running after a ball with complete joy. I hope the donation we have sent between us goes some way to giving more dogs the gift of a happy life ❤️

Please do pay a visit to our church this week if you are bringing your dog for grooming. We have the most amazing display in the church for the Armistice 🌺

User

ARMISTICE CENTENARY
Yarpole commemorates the Armistice Centenary with a magnificent floral display in St Leonard's Church. The centenary of the Armistice, ending World War One, will be commemorated during the week starting 3rd November until Sunday 11th November with a special themed floral display using the whole church.
... It started with a small group who came together to knit poppies……… They knitted over 2,000.
These will be used throughout the display to commemorate the sacrifice that was made for us by so many. There will be five separate displays within the church commemorating different aspects of the war and subsequent peace. Each display will stand alone in its entirety.
During the week there will be live and recorded music in St Leonard’s Church. The War poets will be commemorated and a selection of poems will be available to read within the church.
Yarpole Community Shop will be open from 9.00am till 5.00pm and the Gallery Café from 10.30am till 4.00pm, serving teas, coffees, hot and cold drinks and delicious homemade cakes. Soup and sandwich lunches served from Saturday to Wednesday, normal lunches on Thursday and Friday.

Last video from Groomer Awareness Week.
If your dog has lovely long ears please make sure they are properly brushed out every couple of days. This will stop knots forming making it much less stressful for your dog. Matted ears can pose a real health risk to dogs cutting off the blood supply to to ear. Shaving off a severely matted ear can lead to heamatoma when the blood supply returns suddenly.
If you would like any advice on the best way to brush your dog just ask 😊

Some great advice here! Tag a friend who also has a dog to help spread the word 😊

Groomer Awareness Week
So yesterday's post was about puppies, today is about the oldies. As a dog gets older we sometimes have to adapt grooming to make it more comfortable. This might mean a shorter, more practical trim or maybe a bath one day and trim the next so it's not too much at once. Each dog is an individual and we try to adapt to their particular needs. Grooming is not just about fancy haircuts, it is about doing our best for the welfare of each dog.
Please share, thank you 😘

Thank you Rosie for a great hand strip & groom for Riley (Irish Terrier) on Friday. He is a very smart boy now!

User

Professional, knowledgeable and very experienced! Wouldn't take my border anywhere else now!

User

Phew!!! Made a mistake before! FIVE STARS because AJ is a superb groomer.

User

Not only does Aj do a wonderful grooming job on our Cavaliers but she has the experience of rescue dogs to know just how to treat them so I am more than happy to leave them in her care knowing they will be well looked after and treated gently. I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else and can highly recommend her!

User

Highly recommended. My Westie always comes home beautifully cut and happy. AJ is very knowledgeable and has given me lots of advice on changes she has noticed in my dog health.

User

Highly recommend AJ, she does a first class groom and works so well with my dogs. Vets and breeder are highly impressed how our dogs are maintained and they smell great!!

User

Great with all 3 of my field spaniels. So patient with my pup.

User

Fantastic, we couldn't be happier with the service and the professionalism of roses grooming, we wouldn't leave our dogs with anyone else, Very pleased that we found her, and would hesitate in recommending her , xx

User

AJ is great with all my dogs. Monty was blind and epileptic and AJ took extra care. Kazza is nervous but AJ is so kind it's fine. And Goose the Gordon Setter puppy had his first visit for socialisation and training which he enjoyed. Thoroughly recommended! !!

User

AJ has been wonderful with our Cavaliers. We have one very frightened ex breeder who was too frightened to look anyone in the eye never mind being touched. AJ has been so patient with her and she comes away looking beautiful and is looking more relaxed. Our other two also look fab and the one is not the easiest to be groomed. I always feel confident that they are in safe hands and will be treated with the utmost kindness and someone who has the knowledge to deal with anything that may crop up. Thank you AJ from us all x
