The Rotary Club of Scunthorpe Pentagon founded in 1981 and is part of the worldwide Rotary International movement.
Rotary was founded in 1905 by a Chicago Attorney, Paul Harris, who saw the need for Professionals to meet in a social environment to combine the benefits of mutual fellowship with positive work for the good of mankind. The movement grew fast, expanded outside the United States and Scunthorpe Pentagon is proud to be in the Rotary International Great Britain and Ireland region.
Rotary is non denominational and non discriminatory and today boasts 1. 2m members in 32, 482 Clubs worldwide. The movement crosses boundaries into some of the poorest developing countries in the world and into some of the most repressive regimes. As well as providing a great skill and contact resource for the communities in which they work individual Clubs raise thousands, if not tens of thousands for good causes both in their immediate area and for global projects.
