Following our earlier post of The Royal Air Force Museum, London Hawker Typhoon 1b photos taken by SAC Skerrett we wanted to share the remainder of the set.

SAC Skerrett created this image from a composite of many individual files. Both Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Official) Hurricanes and The Royal Air Force Museum, London Hawker Typhoon.

Hawker Typhoon arrives at RAF Coningsby
The sole remaining example of an iconic World War Two aircraft, the Hawker Typhoon, has been ‘rolled-out’ at RAF Coningsby today, home of the RAF’s Eurofighter Typhoons.
The aircraft was originally built in 1944 and belongs to the Royal Air Force Museum. It is usually on display at Hendon in North London, but for the last four years has been in Canada. Following a BAE Systems initiative, the aircraft has come to Coningsby on its way hom...e to London as part of the commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the RAF.
Following the roll-out today the aircraft was positioned next to its modern counterpart, the Eurofighter Typhoon.
Group Captain Mike Baulkwill, Station Commander RAF Coningsby said, “We are grateful to both the RAF Museum for lending this precious aircraft, and BAE Systems for helping to bring it about. Standing alongside a modern Tranche Three Typhoon, it is a potent example of the duties undertaken by the RAF since 1918, and a reminder that similar tasks are being carried out by RAF Typhoons in the Middle East today”
Mr Ian Thirsk, Head of Collections, RAF Museum said,
‘The RAF Museum is delighted to loan its Hawker Typhoon 1b MN235 to BAE Systems at RAF Coningsby. As the sole surviving example of its type, MN235 is a jewel in the crown of the Museum’s aircraft collection and it seems entirely appropriate in this, the Centenary year of the Royal Air Force, to place the Typhoon on public display alongside the BBMF’
The aircraft will be on public display within the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Hangar from the first week in August until the end of September.

Alison Ballard, General Manager of BAE Systems at Coningsby said,
“We are delighted to have the Hawker Typhoon here after a great team effort from across the station, BBMF, the RAF Museum and our BAE Systems Heritage team. After its long journey from Canada we have the two aircraft together, and reaction from everyone across the station has been great. We are glad it has been a part of our RAF 100 celebrations and we encourage the public to visit BBMF where they will be able to see the aircraft."

The RAF Coningsby Families Day will take place on Friday 27 July.
In order to comply with air safety restrictions we are compelled to:
Prevent access to ‘the mound’ during the display.
... Ask civilian Police colleagues to move people on who congregate under the display area.
Stop the Flying Display if there are people under the display
If you do plan to attend we would urge you to use the designated viewing area on Dogdyke Road. Access to the viewing area will not be possible from the North of Coningsby. The road will be closed from the roundabout in Coningsby village to the BBMF visitor centre. Access to the designated car park will be from the South via the B1192 and the New York/ Dogdyke Rd.
Please note this is a ticketed event only open to families of personnel based at RAF Coningsby.

A team of six riders (Aircrew & Engineers) will be making the 160 mile ride from RAF Coningsby to Liverpool on Friday 20th July, raising money for the Royal Liverpool Hospital Charity. This charity has been chosen because of the quick reactions of a nurse at the St. Paul's Eye Unit, following a freak accident which nearly ended the flying career of our RAF Typhoon Display Team pilot - Flt Lt Jim Peterson.
A piece of glass cut through the Cornea of his left eye, which then had... to be surgically removed and stitched by the specialist team. Over the course of 6 months his eye sight returned, which enabled him to fulfil his dream of becoming a Fighter Pilot and now carry out his sterling work as the 2018 Season Solo Display Pilot.

Walked up from our boat at Doddyke, and we were lucky enough to have the Lancaster fly over us. Met the pilot Seb again and was very lucky to get a flight map absolutely made my day. Can't wait until the next day

Spent the day (28th May 2018) watching the BBMF take off, display and land at the spotting car park. I got goosebumps as the Lancaster taxied by and our dog jumped a mile when the Spitfire did a fast low pass right overherhead, what a noise from the Merlin.
