A total of 21 firefighters completed the 12-week course, which was jointly delivered between Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (Official)
The course culminated in a Graduation Ceremony on Friday, 7 September, during which the new firefighter...s showed their family and friends some of the skills they have learnt in a training scenario. You can see the highlights in the video below.
The new firefighters will undergo further training before being posted to their new fire stations in the coming weeks.

There are less than three weeks left to have your say on how Royal Berkshire Fire Authority’s (RBFA) plans to deliver our services over the next four years.
The consultation will last eight weeks in total, during which we are asking Berkshire residents, workers and commuters to comment on the draft Corporate Plan and Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP) for the years 2019 – 2023.
In this video, Doug Buchanan from our Risk and Performance department gives an overview of the... projects included within the plan and encourages you to take part.

Two new fire engines will be deployed at Newbury Fire Station, following an official handover from the Royal Berkshire Fire Authority (RBFA).
The fire engines have been brought in following a joint procurement project between Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS), Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service, which delivered the first set of fire engines to the Thames Valley last year.
They offer a range of improved capabili...ties for Newbury’s firefighters, including:
• Larger hose reels that enable water to be delivered more quickly to extinguish fires. • Battery-powered rescue equipment, primarily for use at road traffic incidents. This is easier to carry and less bulky than hydraulic equipment, less hazardous and removes generator noise from rescue situations. The equipment is also much quicker to deploy, reducing the time to access and rescue people who are trapped and injured. • Improved mobile lighting for better visibility at the scene of an incident. • A more comfortable seating area for crews. This is especially important as firefighters are typically spending more time in the fire engine, completing prevention work such as Home Fire Safety Checks
On Friday, 31 August, Councillor Angus Ross, Royal Berkshire Fire Authority’s Lead Member for Strategic Assets, completed the official handover by handing over the keys to Newbury firefighters, alongside Newbury MP Richard Benyon and Chief Fire Officer, Trevor Ferguson.

We are delighted to have been awarded the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award.
This comes as a result of our support to those that are part of the Armed Forces community, and follows the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant which provided us with the Bronze Award in February this year.
With thanks to all our staff, we’ve shown our support for the forces by taking part in Armed Forces Day where we put up flags on stations and took part in events in Re...ading and Slough to show our gratitude for all the hard work that the members of the armed forces do. In addition, we supported the Reserves’ Day, which was held on 27 June, during this we invited all serving and ex-Armed Forces members of staff to wear their uniform to work.
If you'd like to know more about the Armed Forces Covenant, please visit: www.armedforcescovenant.gov.uk.
