Last week Graeme Dey, Minister for Parliamentary Business and Veterans, visited Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company to meet some of the social enterprise’s first hires. The factory opened this summer in partnership with military charity Erskine Proud To Care, and is set to help more than 40 of the country’s ex-servicemen and women every year through direct, flexible employment! The Minister’s visit affirms the Scottish Government's support for the social enterprise. Find out more about Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company on their website scotlandsbravest.org.uk or their page facebook.com/scotlandsbravestmanufacturin g.

Thank you to all who attended our Village Mayhem event this weekend in support of two great charities Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) and Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance, which would not have been possible without the support of the local community and the motorbike community.
A special thanks to Bryan Humphry of Widows Sons MBA - SE for his generous donations, the bands Chasing Shadows Bulletproof T and The Assassins Chapter One for providing great entertainment ...and Nigel Chambers our first aider for the event.
In addition, many thanks to the Base Camp team for providing a great venue and their hard work and the traffic marshals – RBLIS Tim Brown, Jess Wherry and all of the volunteers
We hope to see you all next year for our 4th annual event.

“Help us remember those who gave their yesterdays for our todays”
Do you know someone who risked their life serving their country? Or someone who is currently serving? There’s still time to get involved with our Wall of Honour campaign; a fitting tribute to those who have sacrificed so much. Leave a lasting legacy for a family member, friend or loved one on a tailored commemorative plaque within RBLI’s historic memorial garden. All proceeds of which will go directly to vetera...ns who need crucial support and assistance.
To leave a lasting legacy, join the Wall of Honour and visit rbli.co.uk/wallofhonour or contact fundraising@rbli.co.uk or call 01622 795966.

Nepal-born Purna spent 4 years in the Army throughout his training, as well as spending some time in Brunei with the first Gurkha Rifles. In 2009 Purna began serving in Afghanistan where he was badly injured, predominantly affecting his eyes and his arms. Purna felt his injuries may have affected his ability to find suitable work. Luckily, however, he was referred to Britain's Bravest Manufacturing Company's sign making department! Purna now takes great satisfaction in using his skills to create signs, and spends time with fellow veterans with whom he can relate to. britainsbravestmanufacturing.org.uk

Private Albert Bursford, of Newmarket, gave his life serving in World War One. On the very first day of the battle of Cambrai in France, 1917 a bullet entered the tank he was driving, killing him aged just 21. He was laid to rest by nearby farmers on their land, only for his impromptu grave to be destroyed by shellfire sometime later during the war. Until now there has been no physical memorial for Albert in the UK - nothing for family and friends to remember the sacrifice he... made for his country. This year that will change, as he will now be commemorated through our Wall of Honour campaign! All donors, including Albert’s great niece Wendy Brimicombe, will be personally invited to attend the unveiling of the wall at a special event in RBLI’s memorial garden on Armistice Day this November. To leave a lasting legacy, join the Wall of Honour and visit rbli.co.uk/wallofhonour or contact fundraising@rbli.co.uk or call 01622 795966.

Meet Andy - who last week set off on Lord Dannatt’s Round Britain Challenge, supported by the Endeavour Fund.
Andy was medically discharged from the Parachute Regiment in 1984 after suffering a serious knee injury. He has since been diagnosed with PTSD.
We provided him with a home and now support him with mobility issues and in overcoming other challenges linked to PTSD.
... He is undertaking the Jubilee Sailing Trust challenge to conquer his fears and support his comrades, whilst enjoying a life-changing experience.
Good luck to all veterans taking part from RBLI, Help For Heroes, The Poppy Factory and Walking With The Wounded.

We were proud to have two riders take part in Prudential RideLondon yesterday, tackling the wind and rain!
Ride London follows a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey’s stunning countryside.
Well done to Tony Fox, one of our own staff members, and Simon Beer, an Armed Forces veteran, for taking on the challenge and for an amazing effort in the weather.
... Both have exceeded their £500 target but if you would like to donate to help them raise more for Britain's Bravest, you can visit www.virginmoneygiving.com/simonbeer5 or http://www.justgiving.com/TonyFox2

After a dedicated 14 year stint in the infantry, James found himself struggling to settle in to civvy street, finding it an alien place for a man who spent so long in the services – he says he felt completely lost.
However, after moving into one of our 24 apartments opened last year, he wanted to challenge himself, and thought the Jubilee Sailing Trust Lord Dannatt Round Britain Challenge, which is supported by the Endeavour Fund, was the perfect way to do it.
He says for him the challenge will instil a newfound sense of confidence and give him the opportunity to see Scotland, having never been. He is currently on day 5 of the challenge with other RBLI veterans and will be followed by veterans from Help for Heroes Official, The Poppy Factory and Walking With The Wounded. Pictured below (right) with fellow veteran Gary.

Gary began Lord Dannatt's Round Britain Challenge earlier this week alongside other RBLI veterans, all thanks to Jubilee Sailing Trust in partnership with the Endeavour Fund. RBLI have the first leg of this incredible challenge, and will be followed by Help for Heroes Official, The Poppy Factory and Walking With The Wounded.
Gary left the 3rd Battalion Queen’s Regiment in 1994 after 11 years of service. He immediately joined the civilian workforce, however a payment falling ...through a few years later led to it being impossible for him to pay for his accommodation.
Facing immediate homelessness last year, Gary sought out Royal British Legion for help. They referred him to us and we are proud to say he now lives on our village in housing with other veterans.
Gary was eager to take on the Round Britain Challenge as it’s something he never thought he would do - he said he was looking forward to taking it on with a “great group of people.”

Meet Naboth - one of our veterans taking on Lord Dannatt’s Round Britain Challenge with Jubilee Sailing Trust.
Naboth found himself homeless after being medically discharged from the Army in 2003.
Suffering with depression and anxiety, he moved from town to town for many years in a desperate attempt to secure sustainable housing. However we are happy to say he is now housed on our village in Kent.
... Having found stable surroundings, Nab is now looking to rebuild his life and find employment. The 40-year-old jumped at the chance to take part in Lord Dannatt's challenge, saying: “Challenges are part and parcel of the military mind-set. I cannot lie – I have not had an easy life, but I know this challenge will help open up my mind to who I am.”

Meet Andy - who set off on Lord Dannatt’s Round Britain Challenge yesterday - pictured below with the RBLI Chairman, Stephen Kingsman, and Lord Dannatt.
Andy joined the RAF in 1985, serving until '91. He thought his military career would set him up in civvy street and despite securing employment, he found himself moving from job to job and lacking direction.
However, Andy has just undertaken our veteran employment support programme LifeWorks which he says has helped him strea...mline in his CV and given him more guidance for his future.
Good luck to Andy and all the veterans taking part from Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI), Endeavour Fund, Help for Heroes Official, The Poppy Factory and Walking With The Wounded
