About Royal Holloway Labour Society

Royal Holloway Labour Society is a collection of like-minded students aiming to spread the values of the Labour Party at Royal Holloway and beyond.

Royal Holloway Labour Society Description

Welcome to Royal Holloway Labour Society!

Royal Holloway Labour Society brings together like-minded individuals who support the aims and values of the Labour Party. We are committed to furthering the work of the party both on campus and in the local area.

Meetings and Events

Labour Society typically meets for an activity once a week - these activities can range from guest speakers (including MPs, Cllrs, MEPs and prominent left-wing figures), to campaigning and campaign support, to debates on current political topics. We also run an annual trip to Parliament where members can tour Parliament, sit in on debates and speak to Labour MPs.

The society has an active social life with regular pub socials and sober socials including quiz nights and film nights. We aim to hold a sober social every fortnight to make our society as accessible as possible to all students.

We also work with the local constituency Labour Party and help members who are interested to get involved with election campaigns, which can include speaking to local residents and giving out leaflets.

Campaigns

The society will be running two campaigns throughout 2019-2020 (Mental Health and Homelessness), which will focus on raising awareness about these issues. We will hold various fundraising events for these campaigns throughout the year.

Getting involved

We will be holding elections during the year for Rep positions, who will work closely with the Liberation Officer to ensure the society is as accessible and inclusive as possible. These roles include a Disability, BAME, LGBT and Women's Rep. Any member who belongs to one of these protected characteristics can run to be a Rep and we are eager for members to get involved in this way. We are introducing a society newsletter this year to document events held by the society; this will also be a place for members to get involved and showcase their work, such as articles, book reviews or artwork.
